This is an amazing *series* of articles, all high quality!! Great work!! I understand you're dealing with assorted sources of varying quality, and I haven't checked my copy of A&H yet, but as far as I know there's no such thing as a "SAM 6" shoulder-fired SAM. Yes there's the SA-6, the Soviet system, tracked, but what seems much more likely is the SA-7 Grail. Hope this is helpful (and doesn't just repeat what you've already found!!). @Indy beetle: Do you have any other Wikipedia accounts? There is a lot of overlap with other accounts on the same IP addresses that you use. ST47 (talk) 01:26, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ST47: No, I'm honestly surprised that there is so much editing activity from this address. I'm editing from a university, so its possible that if you put enough young people together on the same internet network some of them will take to Wikipedia. -Indy beetle (talk) 02:11, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Indy beetle: Yeah, it actually wasn't the University connection I was interested in - I expect a pretty high level of activity from those sorts of addresses. I was wondering if there was any reason why you might seem to be connected to @Willthacheerleader18:? ST47 (talk) 02:17, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ST47: I know them in real life, and sometime we edit at the same location. I've also collaborated with them on a few things - Carl von In der Maur comes to mind. -Indy beetle (talk) 02:25, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the autoblock definitely wasn't intended for you, so I'll get that lifted. Try not to vote at the same debate as them anymore, though, eh? That's only one of many pages where you have both edited at very close to the same time. ST47 (talk) 02:38, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ST47: Thank you. For the record about voting in debates with them, I understand there are grounds for concerns regarding meatpuppetry, but I stand by my rationale for my votes and never voted for anything other than what I thought was correct. As such there are times where I've voted differently from them. -Indy beetle (talk) 07:18, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Saint-Sylvestre coup d'état[edit]

G'day, Indy, I hope you are well. Given your work on African-related topics, I wonder if you might be able to assist with some citation needed tags at Saint-Sylvestre coup d'état? New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.

Chief Susanne Wenger's title[edit]

Hello, Indy beetle.

I saw that you removed Chief Wenger's pre-nominal from the introduction of her article. I was wondering why.

I noticed that you stated in the edit summary that titles generally weren't included in introductions on Wikipedia. As I have said before, that is something that I would respect if it was generally applied across different cultures and honours systems. Why is Elton John referred to as Sir Elton Hercules John CH CBE in the introduction to his article if Chief Wenger can't be referred to as Chief Susanne Wenger MFR in the introduction to hers? This is patently unfair.

I will give you twenty-four hours to respond. If there are no further objections, I will restore the pre-nominal.

Here's hoping that you are well.

Removing MNTV hypothetical examples[edit]

I understand your concern about original research, but aren't example calculations the best way of explaining a voting system to readers? Wikipedia:No original research#Routine calculations is clear that doing calculations based on published theorems is not precluded by the "no original research" rule. Deryck C. 14:02, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Deryck Chan: WP:CALC is meant for routine calculations for small details, not developed hypotheticals full of numbers some Wikipedian just created on the fly and applied some rule two. -Indy beetle (talk) 14:50, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

FYI...[edit]

User:Eddie891/Katangese Gendarmerie... Please feel free to contribute if you feel so inclined... the spark for this article came from your book review for MILHIST. Eddie891 Talk Work 23:21, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think you could fill out the section on Grand Slam? Kennes and Larmer, my main sources, largely gloss over it Eddie891 Talk Work 23:56, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've finished most of the prose up I think... most of the later stuff should go in other articles. How does it look to you? Eddie891 Talk Work 00:33, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891: Looks mostly ready to go to me as well. The lead could probably use an expansion. More info will need to be incorporated about Morthor and UNOKAT, since these were major operations, but that probably won't come until those events get their own articles. Additional info on command structure may be userful, such as when Norbert Moke was made commander of the force. My only standing question apart from that is what is a "Liberation Battalion"? -Indy beetle (talk) 02:53, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The liberation battalion was just an organization of Belgian troops; on second glance not really needed in the article. I'd agree on those other points Eddie891 Talk Work 11:26, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have been looking around for some more information, but cannot find too much; Norbert Moke's date of appointment is annoyingly elusive, though it was around mid-1961. Certainly there's more detail to add for a prospective A-class or FA, but I think the article right now is reasonably comprehensive. Do you think I could put it up for GA (with you as co-nom, of course)? Eddie891 Talk Work 00:17, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891: Of course, but if you can give me the next two or so days to comb through my books to make sure were aren't missing anything critical. I'll let you know when I'm done. -Indy beetle (talk) 06:46, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891: Ok so my reading of Kennes & Larmer indicates there's a lot more about the gendarme's activities during and after suppressing the rebellions in the Congo, particularly Tshombe's plot to use them to stage a return to power after he was exiled. This will take some time to integrate into the article. -Indy beetle (talk) 07:19, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Quite. Do you plan to add it, or should I begin doing it? I will caution that I'm not exactly an expert on the topic, merely trying to fill a gap in WP coverage as best I can Eddie891 Talk Work 12:19, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891: I can add it - the Congo Crisis is in my regular domain, though after that my background knowledge diminishes. That shouldn't be a major problem for this article though, since the Congolese National Liberation Front became the successor organization and it has its own article. -Indy beetle (talk) 01:40, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, just let me know when you think its ready Eddie891 Talk Work 01:51, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the article about "a Congolese politician, jurist, and law professor who served as first president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Congo and was involved in the creation of two functional constitutions for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Lihau was the first Congolese to ever receive a law degree and began his career in the midst of the Congo Crisis, serving in the justice ministry and authoring the Luluabourg Constitution. In 1968 he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Justice but was removed seven years later by dictator Mobutu after refusing to enforce a harsh sentence upon student protesters. He helped organize the political opposition to Mobutu in his later years and advocated for democracy until his death. As such I think he's very important to Congolese history."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:27, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Indy, I am a descendent of Irving Carlyle and have always been interested in his biography. In the same way Steven Pruitt's first article was about an ancestor, I hoped my first could be about one of my own most notable ancestors. He died well before I was born but I have worked over the past two years researching his life including talking to family members and lawyers from his firm, so I think I've gathered some valuable information to include. Given your extensive experience here, I wondered if you could help me submit my edits in a suitable format. Regards, Archicam

A Dobos torte for you![edit]

Tsistunagiska (talk) has given you a Dobos torte to enjoy! Seven layers of fun because you deserve it.

To give a Dobos torte and spread the WikiLove, just place {{subst:Dobos Torte}} on someone else's talkpage, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.

We may disagree on certain aspects of this encyclopedia or the application of the guidelines but it should never get personal. I want to pull back on the reins a little and remember that we are all human. Our individual unique perspectives are important and do play a role in how we see the world around us. Your GA nomination of Invasion of South Kasai[edit]

The article Invasion of South Kasai you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Invasion of South Kasai for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Operation Dada Idi[edit]

Hello, Indy! I wanted to ask whether you could take a look at Operation Dada Idi, an article I just created. Having finally gotten my hands on War in Uganda, I felt that enough information exists about the fighting around Mpigi to warrant an article; but perhaps I missed something. The intro and aftermath need more work anyway (I plan to expand these soon, but was too tired to do the rest today ^^), but you might also got some information from Mzirai etc. that might prove useful. Anyways, thanks in advance and good job with Suleiman Hussein! Applodion (talk) 15:30, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I don't mean to be a pain, but would you be willing to take the time to review this draft? It's been pending for 2 months and the backlog hasn't looked like diminishing significantly in that time. I thought you could help since the draft pertains to WP:Switzerland. Davykamanzitalkcontribsalter ego 01:39, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Davykamanzi: The draft reviewing tools have never worked for me since I was granted them, an issue I've raised on the AfC talk pages to little avail. I am not able to review this draft or any draft for that matter and should probably have my permissions removed to avoid such confusion in the future. -Indy beetle (talk) 15:19, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Congolese names[edit]

I've been working on a draft article for Democratic Republic of the Congo naming conventions and wondered if you might have a take on it before it is moved to the mainspace? There isn't a huge amount of source material, unfortunately, but I think it would be helpful to have. —Brigade Piron (talk) 11:15, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for that. I've migrated it to Democratic Republic of the Congo naming customs by analogy to Spanish naming customs. I was vaguely hoping to create a Congolese version of Template:Family name hatnote off the back of it but am not sure what it would say exactly. "In this Congolese name, the surname is [X] and the post-surname is [Y]", perhaps? —Brigade Piron (talk) 17:39, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:48, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
