Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 11:50, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Infiniti4, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Image copyrights

[edit]

Hi, Infiniti4! Thanks for uploading those two images, but unfortunately they are both copyrighted and thus can't be used in Wikipedia. We can only accept works that are in the public domain or have been released under a free license such as the Creative Commons licenses. Just because something is on the Internet doesn't mean that it is automatically in the public domain. File:Dna origami.jpg has a copyright notice directly under the image on the original website, and File:Dna origami.tiff is from a copyrighted Nature paper.

That being said, there are plenty of scientific images that have been released under the proper licenses that you can upload, if you know where to look. For example, articles from the Public Library of Science and BioMed Central journals can be uploaded because the publishers have specially arranged the proper licencing. Works by the U.S. federal government are also all in the public domain. There is more information at Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ.

Let me know if you need any further guidance. I know the image copyright rules are somewhat complex and there's a bit of a learning curve, but I appreciate your contributions and hope you continue doing so! Antony–22 (talkcontribs) 17:04, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks antony. I realized my mistake after I had uploaded the images to Wikipedia Commons, but I had trouble removing them myself. There was no option for me to remove my own uploads. I tried looking around for answers but I couldn't find a method.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Thoresen Chess Engines Competition, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Grandmaster and ICGA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Thoresen Chess Engines Competition may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • <ref>[http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1713453 Game] also discussed at [Chessgames.com]].</ref>

Welcome to Wikipedia! You recently expressed interest in meeting Singaporean Wikipedians. Are you Singaporean too? As one of the "veterans" and a fellow chess player (hence my username), I would like to know a bit more about you. And yes, I agree wiki markup is too difficult and a huge barrier to newcomers. --Hildanknight (talk) 06:28, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
