Hello! I am very new to editing Wikipedia but I have been a user of it's contents for a while.

I have a question about copyright, does copyright allow quotes????????

I don't understand. Thanks for help. Informationguy

Copyright[edit]

I am not a lawyer but copying and pasting large segments from websites is generally a copyright violation. Please see WP:COPY for Wikipedia's copyright rules. Stifle 03:04, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

--Ok--

Then how about brief summary, without copy and paste, if I do that, will you still delete?Informationguy

  • No, he/she won't, but you still have to say why the person is important, or it will get deleted. Hedley 03:14, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Julian Kotun[edit]

Hi, you seem to have made a typo in this page name, should be Koltun. I've requested a page move to reflect that. You might also want to check out the Manual of Style. - FrancisTyers 03:32, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Julian Koltun[edit]

Yes, the spelling Koltun, I was typing too fast. I will try to edit it, thanks for the help!

Btw, you are sure it's Koltun, not Kołtun?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 13:19, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Julian Koltun[edit]

Hello. Good work on Julian Koltun, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in Julian Koltun? You can simply add links, preferably as inline citations, or see citation templates for different citation methods. Thanks!. Please note this applies to your other new articles as well - it would be great if you could take a minute and format them properly. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 13:19, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

- Yes I added links and I also added all my sources at the End of this talk page and the end of the article all the sources are listed. Just scroll down and you see the sources, I did this a long time ago already. I don't know why you keep updating this message as I see in it's history section. BYE !!! Informationguy

Julian Koltun[edit]

Source: http://www.crimezzz.net/serialkillers/K/KOLTUN_julian.php

I added the source website and books where I acquired the information on my articles. I am new to editing Wikipedia, (but not to reading it) so the concept of wikified I don't really understand yet. But I have provided sources and links so you can confirm the information posted, and of course any help would be readily welcomed, thanks for your interest! Informationguy

Are you trying to get the Joseph Filikowski article deleted? If so, you need to follow the correct processes. There are two, and I am not sure which one applies in this situation, but before I point you to them I'm going to say that it looks like it has the potential to become a useful article (assuming it's not invented or anything like that), and you would make better use of your time by adding more information to it and improving the format and layout.

If you really want it deleted though, the two processes are Wikipedia:Speedy deletion and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. --LesleyW 12:49, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Because of a spelling correction, in which Joseph Filkowski was the proper spelling, I tried to delete the Filikowski page, and I added the Joseph Filkowski page, and the source for this article is * Gangland International: The Mafia and Other Mobs by James Morton .

Okay, I get it now. The correct thing to do, when you realised you had made a typo, would have been a "move" to change the article's name, it's much easier than copying and pasting. This would have resulted in a redirect, which is what I've put at the typo page Joseph Filikowski, it will take you straight to the correct page. (If you're a very new user, you may not be able to do a "move" yet.) The next thing to do is to request a Speedy deletion. You could do that if you like, otherwise if the redirect is still there in a day or two I will do it for you. --LesleyW 22:11, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
PS: To get to the redirect page so that you can edit it, look at the top of the page where it says "redirected from..." and click the link. --LesleyW 22:16, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have seen you have contributed extensively to the List of Poles. One of the ediors, User:Antidote, keeps deleting several people from the list, like Fahrenheit, Goeppert and others and keeps changing the introduction against the consensus of other editors. Thus, it might be advisable for you to revert what User:Antidote has deleted before you adding something new to the list. For more information on the disruption that User:Antidote is causing to Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Antidote. Regards --Pecher 20:29, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I contributed with several Poles and several others of partial Polish ancestry or birth. I won't be able "revert what User:Antidote has deleted" because of several factors: I am not familiar with the ways of the monitoring of Wikipedia and a lack of time, I have some questions, with my conduct:

1. Is it against the rules or regulations to write about the full ancestry of individuals?

No. It's fine what you're doing by mentioning partial ancestries. The only thing is you put some false ancestries next to a lot of people, so just make sure to check what you put and everything will be great. You've progressed the list very far as of now. It was stagnant for a while. Antidote 06:34, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks. So, tell me where are the false ancestries and show me the sources as to their ancestries, and I'll show you my sources in the case of some people, or in the case of other people, which names sounded like certain ethnicities. 29 December 2005 Informationguy

- So, who has which ancestry? 29 December 2005 Informationguy

2. What is the consensus of other editors in the List of Poles?

Like I said above, the list is good off now. There's a section for Prussians and other border-shift-borns so it's all good. Antidote 06:34, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I would be happy to comply with any and all rules and regulations pertaining to my contributions. Thanks for your time! Informationguy

Please don't use so many headings for tiny paragraphs, it's making the ToC of thr talk pages - like that on the List of Poles - almost useless. Also, you may want to reply on other users talk page, it is customary to do so - few people check other users talk pages for possible replies (I don't).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 16:12, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thinking of Retiring[edit]

Feel free to edit or review my contributions. If my contributions are offensive or violate any rules, feel free to edit or delete them. It's too time consuming. Informationguy

Apparently you haven't retired ;) . Why would they be offensive? The only problem is, like I already said, some of the partial ancestries were guesswork. Otherwise, it's really good work. Thanks. Antidote 06:38, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it should be rather thinking of retiring. 29 December 2005 Informationguy

Is there any response at all?[edit]

Why does no one answer my two questions?

No one answered your questions, because probably no one read them. User talk pages serve to place messages for you. Your questions should be posed on other talk pages. Alx-pl D 22:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

questions, questions[edit]

Have I been behaving in a disruptive way? I don't think I was, but if I was I will erase all my edits. I have just been reading the privacy policy on Wikipedia http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_policy after I decided to end giving additions and additional edits to Wikipedia. So, if I was disruptive, or any of those other things, I will erase my additions and edits.

I don't know any other user talk pages or village pumps? So, I'm asking my questions right here on User talk:Informationguy. Until I find the links to the other talk pages, on User talk:Informationguy.

I'm waiting for a real response as to if my contributions should be deleted.

And yes I have decided to quit now.

Informationguy

I don't think you should erase ALL your edits. Defintely don't bother erasing any comments you have made on "Talk" pages, unless you really want to. I've had a look at some of your edits in the main "article" space - to me some look okay, and some are questionable. Most of them are minor, and other people will fix mistakes as they find them. There is some bad stuff on Copernicus' nationality which is an "article" and therefore is meant to resemble an encyclopedia page but you and others have been treating it as a discussion forum - I have marked that article for cleanup and will shortly start removing comments that shouldn't be there.
If there are other "article" pages where you have expressed opinions and added your signature, those opinions and signatures should be removed, but otherwise I think you would be best to leave things as they are. I think it's a shame you're giving up so quickly, all you need is to learn a little more about how Wikipedia operates. I hope one day you'll do that, and then be able to contribute in a more useful way. --LesleyW 10:50, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Who should remove them, me or someone else? Since you told me that it would be best to leave things as they are, I await your response as to which specific articles I should remove. I'm trying my best with my wording here as to avoid any misleading communication and be as clear as possible. Informationguy
I don't know which specific articles might need changing, but don't worry about it. I will go through your contributions and check them out. I'm not going to worry too much about the "List of..." articles, but I'll be looking at the articles about people. It might take a few days though, as I have other things to do besides sit in front of a computer.
I'll come back and ask questions as needed to verify any information you've added. --LesleyW 20:37, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Those are my sources, and anywhere which I wasn't absolutely sure I left a question mark and or a question in the discussion section of the page.

So, there's my sources, now the subject on what I was trying to ask: could any of my edits be interpreted as disruptive, anti-semitic or vandalism? If so, I assure you, it was unintential and in the interest of complete equally in my opinion. But if you feel to the contrary, I'll delete my edits. Basically if they violate the Wikipedia policy. Since I was reading the http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_policy then I will delete my edits. Is this clear??? Since I think this explanation as to what I am asking is absolutely clear and not misleading.

Informationguy

I understand your offer to delete your edits. I'm saying, don't bother. So far I have only found one article where you have behaved in a manner that could be called disruptive, and you weren't the only person doing it. I have moved the comments (yours and others) to the talk page and I am trying to persuade the other people to discuss matters there.
For future reference, if you decide to do more editing, don't put anything into an article unless you're sure it's a fact - if you're uncertain, don't put it in. If you it's something that you want other editors to know about, put it on the relevant Talk page instead of in the article.
Thanks for posting your sources. If you still intend to quit, you can do so with a clear conscience.
--LesleyW 03:36, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so that one article on Copernicus where I (and some others) where disruptive, the comments were moved, and I don't have to worry about it right? Ok, thanks. Informationguy
That's right.  :-) LesleyW 03:49, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of Ethnic Poles[edit]

You are free to start any article you want. I think that Ethnic Poles is a too long category. You should then put there anyone, e.g. all the people from the List of Polish painters, so maybe the other one proposed by Elonka would be better.--SylwiaS | talk 10:27, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I read the description on the List of ethnic Poles and I think it's fine. I want to state it clear. You are free to start any article on Wikipedia. You don't have to ask anybody's permission.--SylwiaS | talk 10:38, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

Hiya, which question in particular did you want answered? I'll try to take a look. Elonka 11:44, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it customary to respond and wait indefinately, or can a wikipedia user just stop commenting/editing completely without a large explanatory paragraph detailing each reason? I think that this is one question or am I mistaken and there is more than one question in the previous sentence? Informationguy

Your question is a bit out of context, so I'm not sure what you mean. Are you waiting for a response on a talk page? -- Scott e 07:23, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm waiting for a response on a talk page. Just asking is their a process to quiting Wikipedia? Or does someone just stop posting responses on talk pages/editing? How is it usually done? Informationguy
Well, you can leave any time you want to. You should leave a note on your user page to let others know that you're no longer active, but there isn't really any process. -- Scott e 08:37, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks for the information! Informationguy, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Notice

The article Joseph Stazek has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (biographies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
