Sacbeob / Sacbe[edit]

Hi, I have a question about the sacbeob article. It was named sacbeob rather than sacbe. As far as I know the former is the plural form and the latter the singular. So I created a new sacbe article, moved the content of sacbeob to sacbe, and made a redirect from sacbeob to sacbe. Next I checked for occurences of the terms in Wikipedia. Coba was one of the results. But what I read there suggests that sacbe and sacbeob are actually different concepts!? I started on an article on sacbeob some time ago (I'm still in the stage of collecting info) and from what I read (several articles from scientific journals) I'm quite sure they're one concept. I don't know how exactly this paragraph in Coba should be interpreted. Could you please give your opinion on this subject? China Crisis 17:20, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think your moving the article from the plural to singular was entirely appropriate, but you went about it in the wrong way: Do NOT copy and paste text from one title to another; that looses article history and associated author credit. Use the "page move" feature; see Wikipedia:How to rename (move) a page, and feel free to ask if you need help. I took care of this one already. Sacbeob is indeed simply the (Yucatec) Maya plural form of sacbe; I suspect the ambiguous phrasing on the Coba article was just the result of inconsistant use in contributions by multiple editors. I've edited it, I hope making it clearer. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 17:35, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for repairing my mistake & making the changes. But sacbeobs should be sacbeob, right?! China Crisis 18:58, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Quite correct. Thanks for spotting that! Cheers, -- Infrogmation 19:06, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hello, I read your comments in my talk page. The problem with some images, particularly the ones that I orphaned, is that they are not well sourced or the uploader came up with a "public domain" claim out of nowhere. The fact that the image is "unique" to Wikipedia means nothing. We do not aquire rights to publish an image just because no other website has it. I appologize if I orphaned one of your images if you are 100% certain that it is in the PD. If so, please try to be more specific and give users (such as me) a good reason to believe that your contribution can be used freely by Wikipedia. Most of us would appreciate if you take the time to write up a good argument and/or source it.

New Leviathan[edit]

Thanks for the correction about the name origins and the expansion on the early days of the Orchestra. I note that this is an orphaned page. Do you think there might be a way to link it into the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival page? Maybe they are one of the closing acts like the Nevill Brothers ... Verne Equinox 18:14, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes they've been a closing act, sometimes not. The New Leviathan Oriental Fox-Trot Orchestra article is no longer an orphan anyway. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 19:21, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

David Duke[edit]

Concerning your revert: what's wrong? You consider "disgraceful" used as a ground for removal by the editor 172 as legit?--Poison sf 15:49, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I explained my revert on Talk:David Duke; a cut and dried Wikipedia:Manual of Style format issue. The disgrace surrounding Duke and questions as to whether he recieved his PhD from anywhere more prestigous than a box of Crackerjacks are seperate issues I'm not currently interested in debating. -- Infrogmation 15:57, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's already something. As I asked in Talk:David Duke, the different approach in Martin Luther King article - is it covered too? --Poison sf 17:02, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Infrogmation. I have submitted a RfC on this issue. Monkeyman 20:55, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Multiple linking is bad only when the same article is linked twice in one section. Linking something in the lead and then linking it later in a section is okay since it's likely the user will not want to scroll back up.
  2. The part you added about the New Orleans accent was unsourced, and it was added with weasel words. If you can come up with a proper citation, it can be added to the article. Andrew Levine 22:33, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello, may you please update the copyright tag for the image: Image:MollyPitcher.jpg. Thank you. --ZeWrestler Talk 00:48, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please reconsider your deleting[edit]

The paragraph I included in the history section of the 9th Ward page was a concise, relevant explanation of how the 9th Ward as we know it today came to be. It is not clear from the sources I've seen that the territory wasn't already part of Orleans before 1857, but it is 100% clear that it was not formerly designated as part of the 9th ward. The annexation of Lafayette directly caused the boundary changes that caused the re-zoning of the 9th Ward--hence the present-day boundaries. With the little history information currently on the page, I would think the relevance off that paragraph needs little defending. In any event, I will hold of on re-adding it myself out of courtesy. Wbbigtymer 04:32, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I am primarily using the familiar N.O. public library fact finder webpage as my source: http://nutrias.org/~nopl/facts/wards.htm

I think you are mistaken about what ward the former city of Lafayette which was absorbed into New Orleans was, but let's take detailed discussion to Talk:Ninth Ward of New Orleans where anyone else interested in the subject can comment as well. Nagin quote[edit]

As Ray Nagin's full quote of his "explanation" of his Chocolate City remarks claims he was talking about a "delicious drink", I wish you hadn't assumed it refered to milk chocolate and modified various articles under that assumption without looking up the full quote first. Cheers, -- another nut in the Chocolate City, Infrogmation 02:40, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • thanx dude, chocolate milk is a great drink. --Ghetteaux 02:54, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. I don't know if the "delcious drink" Nagin is thinking of is chocolate milk or hot chocolate. Either way, bon appetit, -- Infrogmation 02:56, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Album covers[edit]

I'm not aware that I have been (although I've been going pretty quickly through stuff so I could see how I could make mistakes). Could you please give an example? Thanks, JYolkowski // talk 01:44, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block of 168.184.220.4[edit]

On Jan 27, you placed a one-month block on the IP address 168.184.220.4. I have received a request to unblock this due to the fact that it is affecting a registered member in good standing (User:Mrfish33). There is definitely a major bug in the Wikipedia system that innocent registered users are being blocked. I have suggested to the user that they contact their IP people to see what can be done about the vandalism. 23skidoo 20:59, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just as a followup, I have impressed upon Mrfish the importance of letting Orange County schools know about the situation, which I think may result in a permaban for the IP the way things are going. I have also warned him that you (or someone else) may choose to reinstate the block. Unfortunately, Wikipedia's advice regarding registered users changing their IPs isn't 100% accurate; I've been caught by IP blocks before and my ISP has told me it's physically impossible to do anything about it without buying a new modem... 23skidoo 21:10, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club[edit]

Hi Infrogmation,

Somebody I know from Real Life just contacted me with some copyright concerns on Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club. I've just written her back for more details--I'm not sure of the exact range of text she's concerned about, but she feels a good deal of it was taken from one of her papers without attribution.

In the interests of getting on the ball, I thought I'd start poking around. As you seem to be the main contributor and solidest Wikipedian hanging around those parts, I thought I'd check to see if you remembered your sources for this edit. I realize it's an awfully long way back, but it looks like this article is going to need some thorough sourcing.

Best wishes... --Dvyost 05:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That most certainly is my own original work. It contains many facts that have been repeated numerous times in print and on television and can be found in standard Mardi Gras guides (eg, Tramps 1916, Louis Armstrong as King), observations from old photographs & films (eg, police uniforms), recolections of older friends (eg, no fixed route), and my own observations (eg, Napoleon or the Beatles). I put these together in my own words. Does that answer your question? -- Infrogmation 05:59, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep--and thanks for getting back to me so quickly. As I said, I'll doublecheck with my friend and see if it's that core text she's concerned with (and why) or something in an edit that followed. In the meantime, I'll hit the article with an unreferenced tag. This is as good an excuse as any to give the article the sources it needs anyway, right? Anything you could attribute would be very helpful. Anyway, thanks again for your patient response. Much wikilove, --Dvyost 06:35, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you delete this image for me?[edit]

Mr Infrogmation, sir, could you please delete the "Image:Tres Zapotes .jpg" image? I accidentally uploaded what I thought was a replacement, but the extra space after "Zapotes" ruined by plan. I guess I could just leave it out there, orphaned, but it kinda grates on my sense of orderliness. While you're at it, it took me a while before I was happy with the "Tres Zapotes.jpg" map and those earlier maps I uploaded are just taking up space.

That's all. Keep up the good work, guy. Madman 22:53, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your revert[edit]

Is there some particular reason why you used your rollback button to revert my addition of a picture to Honky tonk? [1] Seems like a good, relevant addition to me... certainly not vandalism. · Katefan0(scribble)/poll 07:09, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to have done that without explanation. If you feel the illustration helps explain honky tonk, add it back. -- Infrogmation 17:18, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Froggy[edit]

Wow! You found me quickly! I was so glad to see your name here! Missed you. Anyway, i am poking around slowly in the blues and folklore areas. After a frustrating stint with DMOZ i am happy to play here, with a better interface and essentially better goals. Catherineyronwode 06:55, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and i have a favour to ask. Can you make -- or can you tell me how to make -- a page for Catherine_Yronwode / Catherine_yronwode that will redirect to the exting Cat_yronwode page? Or, even better, could you move the contents of the Cat_yronwode page to a new Catherine_Yronwode page and place a redirect on the Cat_yronwode page that points to the Catherine_Yronwde page? I use both names, and less than half my writing is under the cat name and more than half half under the catherine name. Thanks. Catherineyronwode 09:17, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, neighbor![edit]

Nice to see another New Orleanian on Wikipedia. Thanks for your edits to the New Orleans mayoral election, 2006 page; it's a lot cleaner now. I was trying to figure out how to fix the capitalization, but you took care of it. I'm still new, so I've got a lot to learn. Thanks again..... Praxedis G 17:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carondelet[edit]

Yes, such as those little squibs are, they should be merged or whatever; but Wikipedia software, combined with the admonition not to lose edit history by just grabbing stuff from one and putting it in the other, just makes me run without doing anything. (As to the good governor's last name, it's Carondelet without a shadow of a doubt.)

There is by the way the same situation at Charles Gayarré, which I've patched the simplest way I knew how. Best, Bill 22:39, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 41% for major edits and 85% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)
