Have time to review me?

Hi Intelligentsium. I am wondering if you have time to look at my first real bit of work on WP. I ended up (of all places) on the Chad Everett article after looking into a film he was in - Mulholland Drive. I saw a slew of weirdness on his page. At first I was just going to uncap a word that was in all caps. I followed up the source and recognized plagiarism. And that's what got me started - omg. I don't even know much about him, but it was obvious the page needed a lot of work. I've now decided to add more to his early life and career sections. It's not too easy for me to add info without messing up links and ref's. How do you do it? I'm now copying the edit part of the page into works and am attempting to work on it there. Will you kindly look over the work I've done there so far? I did most of the work under the personal life section (was easy because there weren't many links, etc). Also, I did fill up it's talk page - trying to be open with others. Wow, just this second I learned how to "undo" a mistake I made here (by clicking right and then undo). This is still all so new to me. Anyhow, your comments will be appreciated - but don't scare me too much! LOL Take your time, no hurries! I hope you are well. Here is the link to Chad's page. Again, need your opinion re: personal life section. I'll check back here later. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_Everett

PS: A while back I did correct a funny vandalism - I removed the following from the eyelash viper page (and left a note on it's talk): "The eyelashes from which they draw their name, puts prey into a trance when they bat said lashes quickly. This allows them to have time to accurately strike their victim" - I said "nice try lol."

Albeit27 (talk) 04:20, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Back again. OK, I just rewrote Chad's early life section too, with added info and ref's. If I replace a ref or find a bad ref is it my responsibility to remove it from the list? I'm off to study more, as clearly I need to. BTW - I see why WP needs more females (I'm one of 'em) - the edit pages are scary. I wish they'd use colors for ref's or something. Like in pink? lol Recently I showed them to a non-WP female friend of mine and she about fell over! It's a wall of gobbledygook. But I still enjoy being here :) Albeit27 (talk) 06:49, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, wow, I have left you with a wall of words (too long to read). I'm more comfortable with the formatting, etc now. Yay. I also learned how to fix the unwanted link to the disambiguation pg - very easy. Until next time. Oh yeah, FYI I'm done with the Everett pg.Albeit27 (talk) 23:52, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
This looks good! Insidious plagiarism is a big problem on Wikipedia, especially on low-traffic articles - well-spotted! You did an excellent job rewriting and citing problem sections - upon reading it I honestly would think it was written by a seasoned copyeditor. The only quibble I can make is that perhaps you could include citations after each quotation so it is unambiguous where they are coming from - I assume they are all from the cite at the end of the paragraph, but there's no harm in clarifying.
The magic of the MediaWiki software (which Wikipedia runs) is that when you change a reference in the main text, the reference list will update automatically, so you don't have to do a thing - indeed, if you try to edit the References section, all you should see is the template {{Reflist}}.
As an aside, when you want to make an internal link (like you tried to do above), it is sufficient to enclose the link term in double square brackets, like so: [[Chad Everett]], which produces: Chad Everett.
And yes, the disproportionate lack of female editors is a concerning systemic problem. I have read extensive internal documentation exploring this problem in the past but I'm not going to link you because (a) it is very boring and (b) I forget where it is, probably on our metawiki or else the Foundation site. Cliff-notes version: the interface is unintuitive hard to use, and wikidrama is offputting to women (basically just like you described).
And on the same note, the eyelash viper vandalism was perhaps just on the wrong species page (but being happily married I jest of course!) Intelligentsium 00:58, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
At the risk of sounding weird - wow, I am so relieved and thrilled to have lived up to your wiki-standards in copyediting! Doin’ a happy dance! Now I can continue and move forward with a bit of confidence. And thank you for your conscientious response by addressing my concerns point by point - even sharing your good sense of humor (re: eyelash viper lol). I appreciate your thoroughness and will move the ref’s closer to the quotes in the article and I'll remember your aside re: double bracketing a link. I doubt I’ll ever edit in controversial areas because as you noted, the wikidrama! Am taking a deep breath of relief that I did ok. Thanks again, I am very grateful for your guidance!Albeit27 (talk) 11:32, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Uploading logos

Hello Intelligentsium, How are you? I don´t know how I must upload logos, can you explain me how it would be the correct way to do it such as Ferrari one. I had a problem with this one Tauro Sport Logo. Thank you!! --Pravdaverita (talk) 12:38, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I am well, thanks for asking. The reason I marked your logo for deletion from Commons is because Commons only hosts free images, and logos for extant companies are usually copyrighted (in a few cases, such as Coca-Cola, they can be ineligible for copyright, but that is not the case here). My intent was not at all to "expunge" the file from Wikipedia - it would be perfectly acceptable here at Wikipedia, under Fair use with an appropriate fair use rationale, as is seen on the ferrari logo. Reupload it to Wikipedia, and I can help you write one if you need. Cheers, Intelligentsium 19:43, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Hey, I've uploaded a new logo. You can see it at File:Tauro Sport Auto.jpg. I think this one is better because it is an officially issued logo and head-on, rather than from the side, for better recognition. Under the fair use laws of the United States, even copyrighted images can be used to a reasonable extent for educational purposes. Wikipedia policy requires "fair use rationales," basically short statements on why the use of the image cannot be avoided. I have written one if you would like to review it for future reference; note that the Ferrari logo has a similar rationale. Intelligentsium 23:45, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, thank you :) Have a nice day! Best Regards --Pravdaverita (talk) 12:35, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Oldest Known Transgender

Since transgender is considered a gender that changes, it is why it was included along with male/female. Technically I'd like to add intersex as its a gender, but there is no public information I could find, therefore, no article. Yes, there is no list of oldest known muslim in gerentology sp??, because muslims are not a gender. Doseiai2 (talk) 01:18, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Archiving on Medical uses of silver

Oh god.. don't you ever fully revert like that again. I restored everything back into the talk page so that it could be archived into the month-year format, but now you reverted it back and set it to incremental archiving. Now we are going to have duplicate archives... fully reverting is really really really hurtful. You should always discuss first before performing a full revert. Good luck fixing the mess now. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 03:29, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

By the way, the reason why the archive box was showing the months empty was because the bot had not performed the archiving yet since the archiving aspect was set today. Please please please don't you ever perform a full revert like that again. You could have asked me on my talk page to figure out what was going on. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 03:32, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I think I misunderstood your intent - I saw this thread on the talk page, which did not specify how the archiving was going to be set up, and Special:PrefixIndex/Talk:Medical uses of silver, which suggested (at the time) that the /Archive 1, 2, 3, 4 style was in use. Since the talk page is not that active (some months have no threads at all, and some have only a single short section) I assumed the intent was to continue the style in use.
I admit I might have been a little hasty in jumping to that conclusion, but the mess shouldn't be that hard to clean up. If you feel strongly about monthly archiving, you could have reverted me and restored the bot's archiving. An admin can be called in to fix extra pages created.
Personally, though, I don't see the advantage of monthly archiving in this case. You will have redlink archives for some months and very small archives for others, which may cause related discussions to be spread out and make finding a particular discussion to be harder than it would be with fewer larger archives. I defer to you. Intelligentsium 03:58, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I really don't mind if it's set up to monthly or incremental. The Talk:Medical_uses_of_silver#Auto-archival post you are referring to was made after I setup automatic archiving and after I restored the old archives so that the bot could rearchive them into the monthly scheme (see the date it was posted). If you wanna fix it just remove the archives that I restored manually (I think it was up to 2009) and reset the bot to incremental (I put the bot commands in comments so that the bot did not continue archiving until we fixed the mess). Regarding the red links, the template {{archives by months}} takes care of them and does not show them if such an archive does not exist. However, the template has limitations so you have to subst it but when that happens it creates red links. What I do is that I wait for the bot to perform the archiving and then manually remove the months that do not have an archive (recheck the navigation now to see how it looks without red links). I did not revert you back because, like I said, full reverts are hurtful and two other people posted new messages after your revert. Regarding discussions being spread out, that's irrelevant since that's what the search is for (which is performed regardless of the scheme). Hope this clarifies things up. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 04:09, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Resolved. Everything should be fine now. I removed the stuff that is already archived and set the bot to perform incremental archiving instead of montly. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 04:18, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I didn't realize that you had restored all of the archives for re-archiving by month when I looked in the history. I was responding to the help desk query and it just made more sense to me that you would be using the numbered archive system since having redlink archives might be a source of confusion (i.e., if it jumped July 2009 > September 2009 without August; reminds me of the classic prank of releasing pigs painted 1, 2, and 4 into a school to set the teachers on a snark hunt). I don't really understand what you meant when you said "full reverts are really hurtful" - I was reverting a bot (though with and checked to make sure I didn't disrupt any active discussions. I'll go fetch an admin to get rid of the months then. Intelligentsium 04:37, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Foping Reserve

Thanks for your edits to the Foping Reserve page! I was surprised how quickly others added to it after its initial creation. A Chinese friend told me the Chinese was incorrect, but the only missing part I saw was "ran2" in the pinyin. I don't have easy access to tone mark characters, so I'll let others fix it! Thanks! The article Imran Tareen that you reviewed looks like it needs tons of clean up, no reliable sources to be found at all, wanted to point this out. Wgolf (talk) 23:34, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Yep, I saw it, thanks. I'm watching the page to see if the creator will add sources or improve the article. As the subject has been nominated for and won national awards he may be notable; however if no sources confirming this are forthcoming in the next few days and no further improvements are made then I'll nominate for deletion. Hi. Thanks, I think I could have been more descriptive in my summary and will keep that in mind, but inspecting the history would have shown that this is the fourth time the user has re-added the Controversy section despite reverts from several users with clear edit summaries, discussion on the talk page and warnings not to. I was actually tempted to perform a revert but decided to do it the old-fashioned way and trust other users wouldn't think I was vandalizing, haha. Intelligentsium 02:49, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

How to rename a title

Hi, can you rename "The Pleime Campaign" to "Pleime Campaign", which is more searchable? Tnguyen4321 (talk) 12:01, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, you can rename pages using the Moving pages feature. However, it looks like The Pleime Campaign and Pleime Campaign are both just redirects to Pleiku Campaign. Were you planning to create a new article at Pleime Campaign? Intelligentsium 12:58, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
No, I am not planning to create a new article at Pleime Campaign. And the problem is not both The Pleime Campaign and Pleime Campaign are already redirects to Pleiku Campaign. The problem lies in when you do search for "Pleime Campaign" it is not recognized immediately; it does not generate a dropped-down menu with article's titles that you can match, like it does for "The Pleime Campaign".Tnguyen4321 (talk) 15:33, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
Oh ok, it looks like the redirect was only created last week. The software takes some time to index pages for the drop-down - it will probably be there if you wait a few days. Intelligentsium 16:04, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
