Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Fritz matti requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Gilo ö 06:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

September 2009[edit]

Please do not violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, as you did with this edit to Fritz matti. Thank you.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 07:47, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope that I don't seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it may be construed as offensive. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your views, for instance, your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

There are several options available to you:

  • We can talk about it, here.
  • You can abandon the contributions made under this name and create a new account that meets our username policy and addresses the concern(s) noted above.
  • Or, if you want to keep your contributions history under a new name, then you should visit Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the instructions there.

If we can't resolve this on our own, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Wikipedia administrators usually abide by agreements reached through this process. Thanks. decltype (talk) 17:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Decltype,

I just got frustrated that I kept landing on unavailable usernames and as a joke put this because I thought it would get denied. To my surprise it worked and I did not think any of it further as my initial plan for signing up was to make an article about the most renown gunsmith and firearms artisan in Canada.

Now my article was deleted on the grounds that I had not stated the importance of the individual in question (being Fritz Matti) and this was done by a user by the name of Somno. As a result I am even more frustrated and would like an explanation but cannot get one for reasons I know naught of.

I have no problem with changing my nickname and would like to extend my sincerest apologies as I did not think it would be seen as offensive but only funny.

Internalcreampie (talk) 02:44, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I have looked at the article, and while I agree that there were indications of significance that would make the article ineligible for speedy deletion, after having done some searches I fear that Matti does not meet our guideline for inclusion. If you can provide references that help establish his notability, the article would have a much better chance of not being deleted in the future, if you should wish to recreate it.
As for your username, you can opt to change it at WP:CHU, however, since you have few live edits, the easiest course of action may be to simply abandon this account and create a new one. I personally do not find your username offensive, but others may. Regards, decltype (talk) 05:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So what you're saying, Decltype, is that the article will never be accepted unless someone has written about him in a book, or journal, or something? The thing is, there is only one gunsmithing school in all of Canada and he's the head of the department; he started the school and has been there for over thirty five years. Consequently, he has instructed the vast majority of certified and reputed gunsmiths and artisans that are working in Canada today. He is also much more knowledgeable in his field than many of the teachers that instructed me in university where of their's... Gunsmithing is not a very popular field, and firearms as a whole are not very well regarded like in the U.S., unfortunately, and even less so in Atlantic Canada. This being said, gunsmithing is a 400+ year old trade in Canada and Matti has been part of it for nearly half a century. If I can't write an article about him simply because of the lack of references, I am sorely disappointed... I could go on ranting about how discriminatory I find that, and that it seem very much to me to be a form of elitism; but you have been very generous with your time and so I will spare you that trouble Decltype :) If you have any suggestions as to how I could get this article up or how I could appeal to any authority on Wikipedia concerning the matter at hand, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks again for your time Decltype Internalcreampie (talk) 06:22, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More or less, but reliable sources are not limited to books and journals. Newspaper and magazine articles are also generally acceptable. Wikipedia is run by volunteers such as ourselves. In matters such as these, there aren't really any authorities to appeal to. Normally, the decision to delete an article is decided by a deletion discussion, where any editor in good standing is welcome to voice their opinion on the subject. After a week, an administrator will judge the outcome of the discussion and implement the community's decision.
However, in this case, the administrator Somno decided to delete the article without discussion. Your best bet is to ask she to restore the article and list it for discussion at WP:AfD. But as long as you are unable to provide sources, the outcome of the discussion is more or less given. Regards, decltype (talk) 06:56, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Very well then... Hypothetical situation: let's say I wrote an article and submitted it to the local newspaper in Maniwaki and it was published and I cited that, do you think that would work...? :D lol

In theory, I suppose. Normally, coverage in multiple sources are required, though. decltype (talk) 07:35, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will get to work on that then and will only return once I have the required documents. Perhaps when I am a sufficiently proficient gunsmith myself, I will publish a paper or book about the history of the trade and will be sure to include him for I am that convinced that he is entitled to an article here

Again thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions Decltype. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuits in life. Hopefully we will meet again. Until then, Keep your powder dry, as we say in my field :)

Best of luck to you too. Sincerely, decltype (talk) 08:20, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
