I know, and if it were anything else, I would have burnt my bridges there by now because it has all been highly unpleasant (I've been a member for three days). But these awards affect every single one of us, and I can't stand back and let a tiny group of people refashion WP:AWARDS into their own ideas of what barnstars should be against the community's will. The entire project needs to be simplified and promoted so more people vote on it rather than a self-selecting group of people who oppose everything vs. mass voting by WikiProjects. We need to bring more people into the entire project, not descend into mass-reverting on the basis of personal grievances. Oklahoma City bombing

As you have probably seen, the page had an overhaul removing some information and improving the quality of the grammar within the article. Could you please look it over again and see if there is anything else that needs to be fixed before passing it as GA? BTW, I was in town this week and caught the local station's report on Bodie, CA. There is a HD copy of the report on News10 California Postcard under the Bodie link. It's a pretty good report. Bodie, California might take a hit

An editor taking a look at Gold rush claimed that the paragraph on Bodie, CA was incorrect. This has been previously deleted in that gold rush article. Being familar with the Bodie article, I reverted and discussed on the article's talkpage.

I also found a reference to the Bodie article but did not want to include it as it might appear that I am on an edit war. It is for Rosa May who is mentioned in the Bodie article. The Rosa May, Rosa Olague or Rosa May Olague???? is backed by a book on her (Prostitution in the West). Unfortunately the book's description appears on a booksite which is not the best link for a backup reference per WP:EL.

Rosa May is listed twice on www.bodie.com at Rosa May and Rosa May Oalaque (besides a link for the book onsite as a third reference).

When you select the WikiMapia link, it presents a map with crosshairs. How far am I off? I can place the crosshairs directly on the school (just like I did the arena). That way when someone clicks the link, they can zoom in to see the school. Ronbo76 06:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I really like the WikiMapia geolinks interface to Google satellite. I have done that for some obscure WP:CAL project articles to get a viewable picture. If WikiMapia ever turns into an open source project, the zoomed in picture will be useable in Wiki articles. Ronbo76 06:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, article is looking good. The Major thing for me is that when I am reading an article, as you have stated, pictures make it 1000% better. SO, having just stated the obvious, I would say you need a picture of the gang. Maybe a map showing which counties they hit or operated in, with what towns/cities they hit. Any picture that does exist of them, should be beyond copyright now and should be free to use. Maybe photos of their graves even? A photo of the judge Thomas Ford found here would be nice [1]. At first I thought that pic was the gang, now I don't think it is. I'm not sure on the reliability of those pages either, but the one is on the NIU page. Thanks for a fantastic peer review on the Flag of the Yukon article. I'm going to start working on your suggestions as soon as I can. Funny that you mention "what about a flag before 1968", I was looking very hard into that and even e-mailed the Yukon government archives, but they said there was no flag before 1968, just a coat of arms since 1956. I found this hypothetical flag: [5] but the archives knew nothing about it, and thus I'm not sure whether to even bring it up in the article as a hypothetical example. I had hoped someone else would be the first to review. So far, nadie. A couple of quick recommendations:

• Is this a museum? It is a museum; If so, needs a cat.
• Pictures look as if black and white. First good/great because it makes it look like a period piece. But, the color on the rest is subdued. Recommend reshooting to bring up color/contrast.
• In first paragraph, the article states there are six registered sites with five listed. Might as well list them all.
• Red wikilink for bell house - go with Bell tower or cupola.
• The perpendicular addition is mentioned twice. Once in the initial paragraph and near the end. Could stand a copyedit to shorten it in the first paragraph (one line = it feautures a perpendicular addition unique to period).
• Would look at the Manual of Style to see how the dates are formatted for the references (should it be notes or references?); in most articles I see, the first time a date is seen, it is formatted for user preferences (to include references).
• Dates. Lots of years mentioned but no hard and fast dates. Dates that read as of 2006 or the 1950s can be formatted. See the MOS again.
• If I had to rate this article, it would be Class A, Mid. Don't think that is GA. Not sure. Recommend a copyedit.
• May want to get other project tags like architecture tag (I know they do buildings and bridges). Do not know if the schools project would be interested. I have their tag on my userpage. There is probably a museum project and maybe even a parks project.
• Give me either a street address or approximate coordinates, and I will put a geolinks color scale photo link on it.

You have tagged the Sunderland article as failed GA because the time for carrying out the changes had expired. I am the person who was trying to get the article up to GA status. I spoke to the GA reviewer on his talk page to state that I was willing to make the changes, but due to personal problems it would be a week or two longer than stated. Save Indian Family

I am wondering if you could clarify your quick fail of this article for good article status. I can't seem to find any information about "quick fail" on WP, which is part of my problem, so maybe you could help by pointing me in the right direction! I am a bit confused by the decision, because none of the criteria listed on the tag apply to this article, and as part as I read the Good Article criteria, images are not desireable but not required: "It contains images, where possible, to illustrate the topic" WP:GA?. The information that you suggest is missing would require original research to provide, which I am sure you would not advise!! As you will have noted, the article is very well cited, which has been part a concerted effort in the last few months by a number of editors (including myself) to remove unattributeable information material, and we wouldn't want to go in reverse, surely! --Slp1 22:58, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:Next collaboration(s)

Well, my goal was to get the five major cities done, major meaning population excluding Chicago. Hey, they have their own wiki project! Anyways, I am not sure I really want to work on the colleges, but they prolly would be easier to do. I picked Springfield, so you can pick the next one. Eventually I am just going to start working on Rockford, that one really needs to be cleaned up. I will keep an eye on that city you were talking about also. Well, you can rate any article you start, it is just when you want to take it the next step. By that I mean "B" status or higher. I am going to try and clean up the unrated section, Category:Unassessed WikiProject Illinois articles, as I get bored doing other things. The only thing I ask is that you at least make your articles stubs so they are in that category. If you add more info than just a few paragraphs, make it a start class. When you are ready to move it up from there, then unrate them so they go into that unassessed section and we can see what it is up for. That is the intention of that section anyways.

I would like to finish up Springfield, so once I finish the townships for McHenry, I am going to work hard on it. We need to get it to atleast GA or A status before I would like to move on. History of Springfield

I am working on it intermittently. I began writing yesterday, spending over an hour writing some stuff that covers the period up to the founding of the city based on the site we already discussed.

I will look at your sources once I get to a library with access. I had planned to do so anyway to look at that article you found on the race riots, and to try to find some other references. It looks like you will have saved me some time in finding these other sources though.

In the interests of expediency, I will start the article with what I can based on the one source I already have. This will make easier for you to contribute (which I am very pleased that you seem eager to do). I probably will not get around to finishing it today, but will aim for Sunday. David H. Aurora

Blocks are not to be used as punishment, but to protect the Wiki from further damage. That's exactly what being done. To be frank, I can't see him catching on any time soon. There's no doubt he's a bright boy but he just operates on a different wavelength to the rest of the people here. Not punishment. Rather an attempt to reform by forcing him to bear the consequences of his actions. This has been discussed extensively with other involved admins; we were all at our wits' end with it; and we made a group decision that he would be required henceforth to bear the consequences of his unintended disasters.

Aurora is the first time I've ever found it necessary to use blocks in this way. Normally I only block blatant vandals. Because I'm on uncertain ground, feedback is especially welcome.

I assure you there is no malice in this, just equal measures of frustration and determination.

Re the 2 business and your question on Hesp's page... I honestly have no idea, but given his current status here, I wouldn't overly worry about it. My guess is it's some sort of threat, he seems to generate quite randomly titled articles in his userspace (and occasionally on WP: space - however those usually get speedied). Thanks for that. Sorry to hear it's a bit dormant at the moment. I think WikiProjects usually only work when the community is already there but needs a bit of coordination. But you never know, maybe with the rescope it will pick up. My part of the world has many ghost towns - mostly gold rush towns that were abandoned once the gold played out. Assessment?

Ebyabe placed an class B assessment tag on Postage stamps of Ireland and I asked him for some advise on bringing it up to GA or possibly even FA status. He suggested I ask for your advise on this topic, so if you have any constructive advise on improving it I would appreciate that. I did a lot of work on this article last year. It might also be a great boost to the philately project to get an article to a higher rating. Ebyabe even suggested that he might have rated it a start class but I wonder what size article he expect if this was just a start. It is already over 30kb and IMHO gives a very balanced view of the topic. I had a quick look and did some bitty-fixes and will try and give it some attention in the next few days; US-side frontier history's not my forte but as you've gathered I'm a stickler on language, assumptions, repeated but unsubstantiated claims that are actually opinions or POV in nature to start with, and outright POVism masquerading as correctness. Articles about words

Hi, you left a comment on User:Badlydrawnjeff's talk page on this, I'll respond here so as not to fill up his page with discussion he might not be interested in. You said, "IMO articles about words are pretty much awesome, but there isn't much of a point in stubbing every word in existence, that's crazy. To me, they should be added as users are willing to create them and expand them beyond a simple dictionary def (etymology etc, usage etc.), that way they avoid the deletionists".

The problem with this is that it violates one of the basic process that a huge percentage of our best articles follow: low quality stub becomes ok quality stub becomes ok quality article becomes good quality article becomes good quality well sourced article becomes excellent quality sourced article. If we auto-delete a certain category of articles half way through the process, claiming that the problem is the process isn't finished yet, then how is the process ever supposed to get finished?

This is, in fact, what we do now. We only keep good or excellent quality articles on words, anything less than that is deleted, which means it never has a chance to get better. While this doesn't make sense to me, I don't really know how we should be handling articles on words, because I don't know how we go about determining which words are "notable", or which words can have full high quality articles written about them.

And, note that we have articles on She, Thou, You, We, but no articles on Me, He, They. We have an article on But, but not on And or Or (the ones we don't have from the previous are disambig pages or redirects). Why is "she" a worthwile topic, while "he" is not? Why "but", but not "and" or "or"? --Xyzzyplugh 20:21, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use exemption

I don't want to bother with petty arguments between non-issues (I don't really give a shit if you're "rude" or not, I was just trying not to be rude myself). In fact, I don't want to bother with this argument as a whole. It would probably turn out like my Gundam AfD, with somewhat 20 consecutive people arguing different points I had already covered. If you feel so strongly about a "push" to a free encyclopedia, that's great, but the English Wikipedia needs to hurry up and fulfill that by banning them completely, not just slowly making "steps". --Teggles 12:03, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Rock springs clarifications

"In... February 1884, J.R. Tucker stated that Chinese population in the United States stood at 105,465, or around 0.2 percent of the total population. The U.S. Minister to China, George Seward, had asserted similar numbers in Scribner's Magazine five years earlier."

Does this mean that in 1879, Seward gave the same total for Chinese population? That would imply that it hadn't grown between 1879 and 1884, which seems unlikely. Or does it mean that the Chinese population was still around 0.2% of US, in which case it would be more clear to say that Seward asserted similar percentages five years earlier?

Also, I intend to change the "Tucker used numbers corroborated by Seward" passage to something like "Tucker, corroborating numbers given by Seward". If Seward spoke five years earlier, he can't corroborate something that wouldn't happen until five years into the future. Tucker, however, could corroborate what Seward had said earlier. I'd like to clarify this comment. Although Seward can't reach into the future and give additional evidence to support Tucker, Sewards's 1879 numbers certainly could provide a basis for Tucker's 1884 statement. Ivo Shander article

I don't really have any idea on what else to include in the article. Is there any possible fair use image you can add for the article at all? Unfortunately, I have not even seen the Ghostbusters movies, which I probably should, since I recently heard their having a remake done soon. It's currently in my Blockbuster queue, but since I haven't seen the movie, I don't really know what else the article should include. Maybe consider a peer review, and do for sure get the inline citations. I'm sure with maybe one or more sections of information (once you figure out what they are about), the article could reach GA. Tionesta Creek

I use the USGS maps (via Topozone if I do not own it) or the PennDOT county maps here for info on Pennsylvania geography. There are other branches of Tionesta, but the PA Gazzetter of Streams treats the West Branch as an extension of the main creek for length, so that is why I cited it in the stub. The coordinates you gave me have been converted and plot out to the decimal ones used on the article's Geolinks. You said the crosshairs need to go left, which I interpret as being west (North would be up; West would be left - all as you look at the north based map used by Geolinks). About how far left do I need to go in terms of feet (5260 feet equals one mile)? Do I need to go North (up) or South (down) also? To the left of the crosshairs, I see a big park about 800' slightly SW. Where is it in reference to that park with the green bushes to the north of the building in that park setting?

That was my initial choice but from the zoom level and where the geodetic coordinates plotted out (along with the article's referenced street, I put the crosshairs on a building that was just slightly south of where they fell initially. Used to. I've even taken a hop off the deck of the Carl Vinson. I am now trying to place where Chinatown was in RKS. I found a bunch of articles on the Massacre using this Yahoo search. Any ideas where Chinatown was in town? All references say it was burnt to the ground with this link, Pilot Butte saying that camp was built as some kind of memorial/buffer zone. In the second courthouse section, move "A one-story brick building, the second Ogle County Courthouse was constructed for $3,000." before the prior sentence. Also make sure the inline citation at the end of the paragraph documents the $3,000, if not, add a new inline citation with a source.

When closing more difficult debates, like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stoopid Monkey (from today's list), it comes down to descretion. I would tend to keep that article based on DHowell's response and the references in the article. There's a process for what to do when closing a deletion debate which explains what to do but judging the result of a debate is sort of hard to explain. I tend to give comments with policies more weight, so if someone points out how article doesn't pass the notability criteria it makes their view more convincing. But that's just me. Make a user subpage and link some XfD debates that are due to end tomorrow and then note how you would close them. eg.

• Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allegations of Brazilian apartheid - Keep

Though try to pick something a little harder ;)

Ouch. That's going to come up in an RfA. I think most people would want you to wait 'til the end of May/early June to go for an RfA (3 months). I can see you are sorry but you might get shot down if you go for an RfA too soon. It's been about a month and a half of good editing with no disputes so that's good. All I can suggest with respect to that is keep up the good work since. Don't try to hide it in an RfA (that will be disasterous), link it and explain what happened. By June you should be fine. It will probably raise concerns but I think that you'll be alright. There's no rush and some people get opposed for being too eager to become admins. Hello Ivo, thanks very much for your message to my talk page. Naturally, I am unhappy that the article is nominated for deletion. I put hard work into it, and I did so largely because of suggestions that the other article needed (first) expansion and then to be re-written into Summary Style. However, the main reason I am unhappy about the article being nominated for AfD is not that I put a lot of work into, but just that I think the article should be kept. There is valuable information here for a fan of either of these two sports programs or for someone interested in college football in general.

However, I am not mad at you. I know this was not a personal attack, and I know that you are only doing what you felt was best. I just happen to disagree with you (rather strongly in fact) but that does not make it personal. I do appreciate the barnstar in recognition of other work that I have done. I will proudly display it on my user page, however this turns out.

I do have a question for you, if you don't mind. At AfD, you say that you did not suggest writing an individual article about a specific game. However, I believe your exact statement was "This article seems unusably long, consider breaking it up per WP:SUMMARY". WP:SUMMARY states, right at the top, "When articles grow too long, longer sections should be spun off into their own articles and a several paragraph summary should be left in its place." It continues "Longer articles are split into sections, each about several good-sized paragraphs long. Subsectioning can increase this amount. Ideally many of those sections will eventually provide summaries of separate articles on the subtopic covered in that section..." (emphasis mine) Do you have any other suggestions for how to re-write the article in Summary Style besides the way I am doing it? To me, splitting out the more detailed games is the logical way to proceed. Also, the College Football WikiProject has a specific Header Template for just such, single game articles. Following the WP:SS of the WP:MOS and following the precedent and established format set by the WikiProject, I created the article as I did. Therefore, you nomination does confuse me somewhat.

• We already have articles on individual sporting events. Please see Category:College football games for some examples. Not all of them are bowl games, either. As Wikipedia attracts more contributors, we will be able to cover more topics in more depth. Really? I have always been told that perfect citation of references was a requirement for GA status and it has been part of my submissions and reviews!

Nonetheless, the GA candidate list is loooong and I've been looking at helping reduce it. The way I see it is that if Cheshire Mammoth Cheese hasn't been fixed in the specified 7 days it should fail. I'm sorry I wasn't able to give it more attention; I'm a multi-tasker outside of Wiki was well as within and have been caught up in certain matters, including preparing to go offline (not just Wiki, 'cepting email) for the summer, so will be parting pathts from Wikiepedia....perhaps never to return; so I've been busying myself these last few days left with writing all the articles and organizational stuff I've beeen meaning to get to while dealing with everybody else's agendas ;-0. Oh well, so much information, so little time.
