Quarto by email[edit]

Hi JB82, a new mailing list has been set up to distribute news about the Wikimedia foundation, specifically at the moment to publicise Quarto. I saw your name on the quarto talk page requesting a copy by email, and I think this mailing list is how we're going to do it for the moment. It'll be a html email, which I've added to the Quarto talk page m:Talk:WQ. Mailing list is called Foundation-news-l (We also need translators!) Cheers w:User:Cormaggio

Patriot's Day[edit]

Should Patriot's Day be on April 19 ? -- PFHLai 02:24, 2005 Apr 18 (UTC)

From what I heard, Patriot's Day is the third Monday in April; we could just use April 19 as the traditional day. -- JB82 02:28, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. I've changed Patriot's Day accordingly. -- PFHLai 02:39, 2005 Apr 18 (UTC)

Twin Towns[edit]

Hi, it looks like you're the one who split the List of twin towns and sister cities in France off onto its own page. Although I can see why you did this (the main list is getting rather huge now), I think it's worth considering a) how best to split the page, so we can be consistent and do the same for all situations; and b) whether splitting is the best idea anyway - given the disadvantage that it will further discourage people from keeping the listings consistent. Anyway, if you fancy discussing the best options, come and give your opinion at the main list's talk page. - IMSoP 16:58, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dr. Don[edit]

I had labeled the article Dr. Don Rose partially to reduce any possible confusion with infamous Don Rose on Cincinatti and both baseball fame and scandals. Is their a Wikipedia naming convention for this? I think he is best known as Dr. Don Rose, but mostly just wanted him remembered in WP. Yours in Richmond, VA, Vaoverland 23:52, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

lots of edits, not an admin[edit]

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 22:56, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Bridge-stub[edit]

Hi JB82 - just thought you should be told that bridge-stub has been put up for deletion at WP:SFD. Not only was it not created in accordance with the procedure at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting, but it cuts directly across the hierarchy used for stubs, in that bidges are already sorted by location, which is the organisation which editors are most likely to hunt for when looking for articles to expand. News 10 Now / Capital News 9 Partial Merger?[edit]

Have you heard anything of a News 10 Now / Capital News 9 partial merger? An anonymous poster posted this in the News 10 Now article, but I haven't been able to find any sources, using Google news, web search, or on any Time Warner sites. Since you created the Capital News 9 article, I though you might possibly have heard something. -newkai | talk | contribs July 4, 2005 08:16 (UTC)

Nevermind, found an article... There will be some minor consolidation... Looks like news anchors will be in Albany, weather people in Syracuse. -newkai | talk | contribs July 4, 2005 08:22 (UTC)

News anchors in Albany and weather people is Syracuse? Sounds a bit like Sinclair's "News Central" operation to me. JB82 4 July 2005 15:37 (UTC)

Image tagging[edit]

Hello, JB82. I ain't a lawyer, but I am not sure if the GFDL licence applies to the logos you've added to Wikipedia. Are you the graphic designer and is your firm okay with this ? I've re-tagged the images with {{logo}} for now. -- PFHLai 23:39, 2005 August 27 (UTC) BTW, Image:Windoid logo.gif appears to be a duplicate of Image:WB45 WEWB.gif, ditto for Image:WNYT.jpg and Image:WNYT Logo.jpg. Shall I delete the extra one ? Any preference which gets deleted ? -- PFHLai 23:45, 2005 August 27 (UTC)

Yes. I didn't know that it had already been created until I saw it. JB82 01:35, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SP-stub[edit]

Hi - I note you've recently created a new stub category. Did you realise that stub categories should normally be cleared by Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting before creation? That way they can be vetted to check that there are a viable number of stubs (at least 60-100) and that the category does not cross the existing stub hierarchy before the stub is created.

If you can provide any information on why the stub was created, please add a note to entry for the stub at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries giving the reason for it. In addition, if there is any Wikiproject associated with the stub add that information. Thanks. Be aware, however, that if the stub category does not soon reach a viable level of activity, it is likely to be nominated for deletion at WP:SFD

In the case of this stub, it will probably be useful, given the number of South Park articles there are. The name of the new template, however, does not conform to the WSS naming guidelines, so it has been moved to {{SouthPark-stub}}. Grutness...wha? 01:44, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rhode-island-geo-stub[edit]

Another stub that wasn't suggested at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. It's now mentioned at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries, if you care to comment. If nothing else, the template will probably be moved so that "Island" is capitalized. --Mairi 04:28, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Jesús-Rafael Soto[edit]

Hello, good work on Jesús-Rafael Soto, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Jesús-Rafael Soto? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 23:17, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:KXLN_Univision45.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KXLN_Univision45.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 00:26, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  2. If you are currently interested in being considered for adminship, please be sure your name is in bold; if you are opposed to being considered for adminship, please cross out your name (but do not delete it, as it will automatically be re-added in the next page update).

Aung San Suu Kyi pronounciation[edit]

I noticed you added the IPA pronounciation for Aung San Suu Kyi (aʊŋ sən su tʃi). I don't know how to read IPA, but I am somewhat sure that 'ŋ' is pronounced 'ng'. However, in the Burmese language, 'ŋ' as a final becomes an 'n' sound, more like 'San' of Aung San Suu Kyi. Can you please correct this to reflect the phonology of Standard Burmese? Hi. I was wondering what happened to Category:People from Albany, New York? You created it and then tried to list it for deletion. The Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Category:People from Albany, New York says you found another category? I don't see any categories for "Albanians (New York)". Let me know what's going on and I'll clean it up. It seems like a category for people from Albany would be a good thing. —Wknight94 (talk) 16:17, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's still there - because I removed the deletion tag you added and now I'm adding articles to the category. I wasn't sure why you wanted to delete it in the first place. Just curious... —Wknight94 (talk) 01:16, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NY Route Articles[edit]

Hello, JB. I truly appreciate your hard work on NYS route articles. However, there are a several points I would like to bring up.

  • With this edit, you deleted the counties entry in the routebox. The counties are part of the unwritten standard for the NY routebox, so these should be included. Your editing should be done with this in mind: if the category (junctions, termini, counties) existed in the old routebox, they should be present in the new one.
  • The {{NYSRInt/XX}} templates are meant for substitution only. To use these templates, fill out the template and use {{subst:NYSRInt/XX|XX|XX}}. Also, these templates are only for use in the Major Intersections table and not in the routebox.
  • Exits should be listed in this format: Exit X (I-XX) with a period at the end (so "Exit X (I-XX).").
  • Termini should always be the last item mentioned in the notes box.
  • Any sentences in the notes box should be followed by a period to make the entry more appealing to the eye.
  • In this edit, you reverted the reference link to an incorrect link. I assume that this was an accident.
  • Multiplexes should have two entries, one for the start and one for the end, unless the multiplex begins and ends in the same town name.

All of this was from New York State Route 9A alone. Please review the above information and incorporate this into future edits. Thanks! --TMF T - C 06:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I erred regarding the final point, see the NY 9A article for how it should look.

Regarding this edit, the templates are meant to be substituted! This allows for any necessary tweaking of the resulting text and links, such as disambiguation. --TMF T - C 07:21, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One more point: instead of not including the links to shields that do not exist, include the redlinks: I scan the NYSR articles each night looking for shields that need to be made. Thanks! --TMF T - C 07:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It should be noted that the "Links" section is no longer part of the project standard. The Links/Internal section and Links/External section have been replaced by "See also" and "External links", respectively. Also, a link to the route list page is no longer necessary as there is a link to the page in the routebox.

Your edits to the link sections on NY 9P, among other routes, have been reverted to conform to the project standard. --TMF T - C 19:12, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey JB. I noticed you've been working hard on the cleanup efforts, something that I am very grateful for. NYSR-NYCR Newsletter - Issue 1[edit]

The New York State and County Route WikiProjects Newsletter
Issue 001 – December 2006

Intro Issue

The Beatles WikiProject has been running a newsletter for some time now to great success, and, after some consideration, I've decided to launch a similar effort for the New York County Routes and New York State Routes WikiProjects. This could prove to be a very effective medium of communication between the members of the groups, and with increased communication comes the possibility of increased production. For the most part, this first issue will be a "dry run" of sorts, to work out any bugs in the system. The first serious issue with permanent sections will most likely be January's issue.

Nothing as elaborate as the Wikipedia Signpost is planned, but the amount of information that will be found here will more than make up for the lack of framework.

From the Editor

This is a work-in-progress and likely will be for some time. As we get settled with a format, I'll begin to make some improvements to the barebones structure and give a little more life to this page.

Your feedback on the content and format of this newsletter is greatly desired. With your help, we can make the newsletter better and more informative! Don't be afraid to comment!

Lastly, remember that this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 002 – January 2007). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Happy holidays to everyone, regardless of how you celebrate.

  • Plans to reroute New York State Route 63 in Peoria, Covington, Wyoming County (15 miles southeast of Batavia) were unveiled on December 6. The project will eliminate a sharp curve present in the center of the hamlet, rerouting NY 63 along a new alignment to the north. Details will be finalized by Summer 2007 and construction will commence in Summer 2008.
  • New York State Route 23A, closed from Palenville to Haines Falls since June when record rains caused a retaining wall to collapse and give way to a mudslide, was reopened on November 22. During the time that the road was closed, numerous upgrades were made, including the replacement of culverts, upgrading of drainage systems along the road and the repair of both the collapsed wall as well as the existing retaining walls.
Project News
  • Likewise, articles on county routes are also being made in impressive numbers. When writing these articles, be sure to abide by the guidelines on the project page, to maintain a consistent feel across all of the articles. Missing shields for county routes? See TwinsMetsFan or Northenglish.
  • County routes in New York was recently created. Pictures of actual county route shields are greatly desired and needed. Also, if possible, some additional text and history about county routes in New York State would be welcome.
  • New York State Route 52 was, unfortunately, not qualified enough for Good Article status due to a lack of references (full report). Any references that can be added to the article, particularly the history section, are greatly appreciated.
Member News
  • One month ago today, Fwgoebel came on board to the project and, in the time since, has contributed over 50 new articles on touring routes and has added to dozens more, including helping in the effort (along with JB82 and TwinsMetsFan) to convert all usages of Template:NYSRInt to {{NYint}}. It may be belated, but welcome!

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, JB82, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. You can support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
