Quote[edit]

The quote on your user page ("When talking to a man, it's good to say the word "naked" every once in a while.") is a quote from the TV series Coupling (one of the funniest series around). Just thought you might want to know ;-) Adrianwn (talk) 08:21, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Abkhazia & South Ossetia[edit]

If you're interested in the matter, you may want to look at International reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence where the situation among the developing countries is largely similar to what I expect their reaction to the Abkhazia and South Ossetia situation. (Note even there I think there are still a fair few we don't have a statement for, either because none exists or no one ever bothered to find one.) Most have said they won't recognise Kosovo independence in the circumstances either because they think a unilateral declaration of independence sets a dangerous precedent or that it's not helpful and the parties should continue diplomacy. Some Islamic countries have recognised Kosovo (largely because of the mostly Muslim population IMHO) but even a number of them while supportive of the idea of an independent Kosovo have not recognised it. I think many developing countries consider both situations a mess they don't want to get involved in (so they aren't in a hurry to annouce anything) and would say what happened with South Ossetia and Abkhazia an example of whats happens when you set a precedent of recognising unilateral declarations of independence like happened with Kosovo. Many are probably also concerned for the implications for them if parts of them declare independence. Nil Einne (talk) 18:19, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Finnish military ranks[edit]

Thank you for your point. I agree, in Finland, Finnish named ranks are used. Those articles should, therfore, be named by their Finnish rank with links from the Swedish named rank to those. I was born in Rovaniemi Finland and my mothers’ tongue is Finnish, yet it is easier to understand the Swedish version of the ranks for others. Do you have any ideas how to achieve a balance?

The reason I combine Swedish and Finnish ranks are for historical reasons as Swedish and Finnish military units and ranks have been near identical for hundreds of years as well as my desire to balance the view of the Swedish armed forces using the Finnish armed forces as a benchmark. Finland is chosen as a benchmark for a number of other reasons as well: The Finnish armed forces are based on solid battle experience; Finnish military units are trained on terrain that is similar to that of Sweden; and in the event of conflict Sweden is expected to meet the same class of enemy units as Finland.

Aside from the topic, my view is that Swedish military forces should learn from Finland as Finland has been very successful in their military operations ever since the 16th century up to WW2. I am an great admirer of Finland and its armed forces and regard them as one of the worlds best.

Please feel free to improve those articles as there are lots more to be done.

Best Regards, --Malin Randstrom (talk) 06:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done: I have now changed as far as I could, according to your points, the ranks into Finnish. Pure Finnish ranks such as Alikersantti are all in Finnish with Swedish translations such as Undersergeant inside round brackets. However, ranks that are common to Sweden and Finland, such as Fältväbel, remain in Swedish with Finnish translations inside round brackets. The reason for this is that Vääpeli, in contrast to Alikersantti, is originally from the now obsolete Swedish rank Fältväbel and that Fältväbel was in use even in the Finnish speaking inland regiment Savolax until the end of Swedish governance over Finland.

National Alliance for Hispanic Health deletion[edit]

Hello JIP, I'm curious about an article that you had a hand in deleting in May, called National Alliance for Hispanic Health. According to the warnings, it sounds like the article was written using advertising language, and that it was created/deleted again later. I heard about the issue from someone I know who works with them, who asked if I could look into it. I've done some basic research and it stands to reason that the group should pass WP:NOTE, and that a neutral, reliably sourced article would stand. I'd like to give a try at writing it. Looking at the deletion review policy, it seems I might be able to recreate it without issue, but because it was created and deleted more than once, I'd like to be sure it's not blocked or otherwise flagged. Let me know when you get a chance. (Also, I'm going to pose this same question to the editor who deleted the page in in August). Thanks. WWB (talk) 16:02, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MySurfPad.com deletion[edit]

Hello,

I would like to get more clarity on why you had deleted the article on MySurfPad. The article I had written had not marketing spin to it whatsoever, it was strictly informational. Please advise, thanks!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Waleedb (talkcontribs) 14:47, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Civil War (album)[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Civil War (album), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:59, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, probably because you deleted the prodded Civil War (Dillinger Four album) on 01:15, September 9, 2008. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 19:09, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pakpassion Deletion[edit]

Dear Sir,

Could you please let us know why our page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakpassion was deleted.

I see the discussion speaks of "Notability". Could you please suggest what type of evidence you seek for this?

Pakpassion is among the leading provider of Pakistani cricket news and Pakpassion articles and interviews are quoted by many major news agencies who have a page on wikipedia.

Thanks

Let the reader decide essay[edit]

Thanks for the heads up. I made an essay and Binksternet rewrote it in a more formal encyclopedic tone. Normally this would be appreciated, but an essay is not an article and so in my opinion it was essentially akin to vandalism. I will correct the spelling errors, I assumed Mein Kamph was proper spelling because the page linked nonetheless, apparently due to a redirection page. As for maniac, I am a native speaker of english and an American, in this country maniac is a noun, meniacal is an adjective. --Ipatrol (talk) 19:04, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Topless DJ Caption and reference[edit]

Could you tell me the original caption and citations of the topless female DJ picture for use in the discussion and possible use in the article? --Ipatrol (talk) 19:46, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the text I originally wrote was:

In the late 2000s, topless female DJs have appeared in special club nights in Russia. The idea has later been copied to Finland.[9]

This was later edited to:

Topless Russian DJ spinning at a club in Finland. Club DJs and club owners occasionally try new ideas to attract customers.[11][12]

I added the first reference, the second was added later. JIP | Talk 19:47, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If that's the most commonly used romanisation, then yes. There can be a redirect from Bai Wan Zhi Duo Xing for the benefit of those who can't type the accented characters. JIP | Talk 16:25, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Mythopoetic Leadership[edit]

   * 07:12, 24 August 2008 JIP (Talk | contribs) deleted "Mythopoetic Leadership" ‎ (WP:PROD, reason was 'local course'.)

What do you mean by "local course"? Tel2048 (talk) 02:27, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was not I who originally wrote the reason "local course", it was User:Skysmith, who proposed the deletion. I carried out the proposed deletion. I think it means he thinks it's a course offered by a single university or college. JIP | Talk 04:09, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does it matter that this is untrue? Tel2048 (talk) 22:14, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If it is untrue then I can undelete it and place it under normal deletion discussion as a routine process. JIP | Talk 05:01, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is untrue. But if you undelete it and put it up for normal deletion discussion, your action will probably be argued against by the same ignorance that that started this discussion in the first place. And I don't argue with ignorance. Tel2048 (talk) 15:14, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed my mind. Please undelete this article. I feel like ripping the head off of an idiot. Thank you. Tel2048 (talk) 03:44, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have already undeleted the article and placed it under WP:AFD as routine procedure. The AFD reached consensus to delete. Therefore it can't simply be undeleted, it has to go through WP:DRV first. JIP | Talk 05:17, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please explain why you undeleted it when I did not ask you to? It couldn't be out of an overwhelming allegiance to the truth because you lied at the top of the deletion article when you stated I was the author of the article in question.
Also, would you please explain why you did not notify me in any way you were undeleting the article? By not notifying a person with an interest in the article who might defend it, there appears to be an agenda on your part--regardless of what you stated at the top of the deletion article.
Thank you. Tel2048 (talk) 03:53, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of God's Gas[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on God's Gas, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because God's Gas seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting God's Gas, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Please read the question I left on your talk page and answer it. Merely repeating "please don't add non-notable material" is very offensive. JIP | Talk 21:23, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings. Please read WP:NOT. Wikipedia is not a tourist guide and Wikipedia is not a place for undescrimintae information. regards, Nxo (talk) 21:26, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, my apologies for being so brusque, JIP. Nxo (talk) 21:30, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that, but I don't think this is indiscriminate. The World Bodypainting Festival is mentioned on both the Seeboden and body painting articles and no one has ever claimed it was non-notable, redundant or indiscriminate. Daegu is the first non-European city that the festival has expanded to. At the 2008 festival in Seeboden, the mayor of Daegu himself was present to announce the first festival in Daegu.
(after edit conflict) Apology accepted, thank you. JIP | Talk 21:31, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate titles, and columns in 'Lists of' articles[edit]

Hi JIP, you where one of the few people that helped to merg the N64 games lists and get the Japanese titles back onto the main list, but the discussioon has arrived again, and I'd like to invite you to contribute to the Talk:List of Nintendo 64 games#Removal of Alternate Titles and Number of Players where we are discussing the use of keeping alternate titles in the "List of...games" some have suggested that they take up too much space and that other columns could seem to be "useful only to fans", and other things that have been mentioned that, and other 'List of' talk pages. I hope you'll come and give you opinion, and hopefully keep these type of concerns from arising again and again at each "List of" pages. (Floppydog66 (talk) 23:29, 22 December 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hi. You've done a large amount of deleting today after a hiatus of a couple of months. I see that you used to write edit summaries for your deletions, as is the regular convention, but in today's run you haven't been leaving any summaries, so that there's no record of the reason for the deletions in the log. —Largo Plazo (talk) 16:21, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that was an error on my part. The reason I made those deletions was because the articles were on Proposal for Deletion, and their Prod time had expired. I somehow just forgot to write that into the edit summaries. Do I need to undelete the articles and delete them again or something now? JIP | Talk 18:39, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know the rules (and I'm not an admin), but I have occasionally seen articles undeleted and redeleted to achieve various ends, and I do recall occasions where the reason was to correct a previous edit summary. —Largo Plazo (talk) 18:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization of city articles and categories[edit]

Hi! You had added back the categories I had removed from the article Espoo. (I had removed them on purpose because they already were added to the category Category:Espoo.) So, is it a policy or guideline at en.wikipedia to categorize city articles even if the corresponding city category already has been categorized as well? (I'm asking because I didn't find precise answer at Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories and I don't want to mess things up...) Thanks in advance, --Apalsola tc 22:54, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think a good guideline is that if a category has a clear main article, then this article should also appear in the category's supercategories. Other articles need only appear in the specific category. Also, other articles about Finnish cities follow this idea too, for example Helsinki. JIP | Talk 01:47, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
