re: why the west helping those who write against lislam[edit]

Excuse me? You've left a fairly inexplicable comment on my talk page just now... care to explain? - ulayiti (talk) (my RfA) 10:59, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The section "why the west helping those who write against lislam" was added by an anonymous user, who didn't write any content there. I wrote the content as a reply to him. JIP | Talk 11:00, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, well, thanks then. I should have checked the history... It just looks a bit weird. Would you mind terribly if I deleted the section entirely, since it doesn't make any sense anyhow? - ulayiti (talk) (my RfA) 11:05, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for asking if I would mind "terribly". I wouldn't mind at all, delete the whole section if you want. JIP | Talk 12:18, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks![edit]

That was completely unexpected! Thank you so much for the nomination. I've indicated my acceptance. I hope it goes well... :-) android79 17:20, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

  • Once again, thanks for the nomination. I'm surprised at how much support there was! Good luck with your own mop. Cheers, android79 22:11, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

kthx and kthxbai[edit]

I saw your question about these on User:A Link To The Past's talk page; they're l33tisms, and they're usually used as sarcastic dismissals. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 03:10, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hi JIP:
Thanks for support and your confidence in me in my recent RFB nomination. I'm now WP's newest bureaucrat. :) Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:20, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

Cesar-Guardian's RFA[edit]

Ack, my computer had logged me out for some reason, so I've fixed that vote - thanks for catching it. :) Ambi 10:37, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alleged causes of Hurricane Katrina, I'm curious as to whose "non-encyclopedic personal rant" you thought the article was. As Rd232 and I have mentioned in the deletion discussion, (and as I initially noted at Talk:Alleged causes of Hurricane Katrina#Attribution), we moved material to this page that was originally from other articles, where it had been placed by a number editors. You will note, I hope, that I am not prone to adding non-encyclopedic material to the encyclopedia. A lot of Wikipedians have now put a lot of labor into making this a worthwhile article, and I don't mean to be harsh, but I am little offended at your characterization. -- BD2412 talk 04:42, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have now read the article again, and I think I have misread it originally, mistaking the cited opinions for opinions in the article itself. My accusation of "personal rant" was therefore wrong. Sorry about that. JIP | Talk 04:57, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I appreciate your taking the time to do that. The creation of this article has been a complicated process, and I can see where a reader might have gotten that impression. -- BD2412 talk 12:44, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've totally re-written Chuukese language. You may want to reconsider your vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chuukese language accordingly. Thanks! --Angr/tɔk mi 06:45, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Genetski algoritmi (sp?)[edit]

It's Croatian. (unsigned message by User:Stjepan Vukadin)

(Note: This is about an article about genetic algorithms, which Stjepan inexplicably started writing in Croatian on the English Wikipedia, and I told him to stop writing in Russian.) Thanks for the information. I thought it was Russian. I am hopeless at both. However, Croatian doesn't belong in the English Wikipedia any more than Russian does. ulayiti's RfA[edit]

Hi JIP, and thanks for your support of my RfA. I'm an administrator now, and I hope that I'll live up to the community's expectations as one. Your vote of confidence is much appreciated. - ulayiti (talk) 16:00, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and congratulations in advance of succeeding in your nomination! You look quite certain to be made an admin tomorrow. :) - ulayiti (talk) 16:23, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, and thank you very much! I'll see you tomorrow as an admin! JIP | Talk 21:59, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Zappaz I would appreciate thay you read the ongoing personal attacks from Andries. He is a ex-follower of a guru with a very strong POV against gurus and finds nmy edits controversial. As for Thomas, he is also an ex-follower of a guru, has contributed almost no content to WP, with the exception of advocating against his ex-guru. I would count with the fingers of one hand, those editors that see me that way. I would appreciate you read some of the talk pages, and reconsider. Thank you. --ZappaZ 14:04, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you Zappaz, I'll read them when I have a bit more time. JIP | Talk 14:19, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations![edit]

I'm pleased to inform you that you are now an administrator. Please consider reading all the material on the administrators' reading list before testing out your new privileges. Though everything you do, excluding image deletions and page history merges, is reversible, you should nevertheless be very careful with your sysop capabilities. For instructions, please see the administrators' how-to guide. Good luck! — Dan | Talk 16:42, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you, thank you all who voted for me! I will read the how-to guide first thing tomorrow, now it's too late in the evening. JIP | Talk 16:45, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Indeed, many congratulations. Also, thanks for the support on my RfA. I was very pleasantly surprised to see so much support throughout the week. Please do keep an eye on me and my logs, especially while I'm learning the ropes with the new buttons. Thanks and congratulations again! -Splash 23:41, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Popups tool[edit]

Congratulations on being made an admin! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:JIP/Archive 3/monobook.js:

// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupShortcutKeys=true; // optional: enable keyboard shortcuts
popupAdminLinks=true; // optional: enable admin links

There are more options which you can fiddle with listed at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin 17:17, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Jip, thanks for quickly reverting the vandalism from my user page. I appreciate it. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:41, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

  • You're welcome. I hate it when people vandalise other people's user pages. JIP | Talk 07:49, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

teh MOPZOR!!!!11one

I cannot thank you enough for nominating me for adminship. I was honestly shocked when you told me you had nominated me- I thought perhaps I was worthy enough, but didn't want to self-nom until about 4000 edits. Thanks again for the nomination, and your enthusiastic support of it...I promise, I will put the tools to good use :) Ral315 03:45, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

Mind Pollution and Sin Star votes[edit]

I have to take issue with your count in closing the vote on Mind Pollution. By my count there were, as you said, five votes for deletion — from myself (the nominator), BD2412, Mgm, KissL, and DV8 2XL — and only two votes to keep — one from Factitious, and four from sin-thetik, the article creator.

I also disagree with your count of votes for the related article, Sin Star. By my count there were five delete votes — the same five who voted to delete Mind Pollution — but you only counted four, one merge vote from Factitious, and three keep votes from sin-thetik, the article creator.

I would suggest that in the future when closing votes you check the history to determine the authorship of unsigned votes. I also think the quality and nature of the arguments presented are more important than the raw vote count. I would like to renominate these articles, but I'm not sure what the rules on that are. I guess I'll have to go read the deletion policy.

In the Sin Star article it says, "Such promotional activities carried out by fans have gone as far as having MTV.com tricked into placing a Sin Star artist biography on their site however this was promptly removed the same day." It also says their debut album will come out next year, and that they don't have a label. It seems they have been more successful at defacing Wikipedia than they were at MTV.com. --DavidConrad 18:02, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for your comments. I'm very new at judging RfAs and so I can sometimes make mistaken judgments. I will try to read RfAs more carefully in the future. IMO you're free to relist the articles for deletion. Alternatively, you might want to list them for speedy deletion, with the reasoning that they've previously been AfD'd and the judging admin (i.e. me) made a mistaken judgment. JIP | Talk 18:07, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have renominated the articles for deletion. I just wanted to say, I have no doubt at all that you were acting in good faith, and that if there was any mistake, it was an honest one. As I reread the last two paragraphs I wrote above, it strikes me that the tone is more harsh than the situation warranted. All the best, --DavidConrad 05:58, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

A thanks for the support on my admin nomination. I'm now WP's newest admin. CG 18:16, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

Re:Your Signature[edit]

Your signature contains improperly formatted HTML code. It is causing closed AfD discussions where your signature appears to be rendered incorrectly, the "closed AfD" border only goes as far as your signature, making the rest of the discussion appear as normal. For an example, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/L.O.C.K.D.O.W.N. — JIP | Talk 08:56, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. My signature has been changed since then. Molotov (talk) 19:44, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bmicomp's RfA[edit]

Well, my RfA has not quite completed yet, but either way, I'd like to thank you for your vote and your support, regardless of the outcome. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 18:37, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, I'm not even sure if that was a vote, but either way, thanks for your comment/vote. =) -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 18:41, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No, that was not a vote. I'm sure you'll make a great admin, but I have not reviewed your past contributions personally, so I haven't supported your RfA yet. Thanks for your reply anyway. JIP | Talk 19:16, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RFA[edit]

Thank you very kindly for your support of my nomination. I promise your trust hasn't been misplaced; I will only be slightly buzzed with power, but never drunk. ;) · Katefan0(scribble) 20:58, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

Another thank you![edit]

Thanks for your support in my recent RFA! All those extra buttons might not be a big deal, but getting all this positive feedback sure is, please let me know if you have any problems or comments regarding how I use all these shiny new levers and cranks! Thanks awfully[edit]

Ta for supporting my RfA, much appreciated. I'll endeavour to contribute more to those necessary tasks and hope to bring the benefit of years of experience of tactfully sorting out recalcitrant contractors to bear in the gentler arena of wikipedia....dave souza 23:17, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that there were strong feelings on both sides with respect to the outcome of the AfD for this article, now located at Alternative theories regarding Hurricane Katrina. I would like to assure those who expressed concerns about the content, tone, and potential for degradation of this article that I intend for it to continue to exist only as long as is necessary to draw the contributions of fringe theorists away from the more substantial Hurricane Katrina articles. Once interest in this topic dies down, I'll quietly trim and merge this information into the appropriate general-topic articles. In the interim, I will carefully watch this page to prevent it from being abused, and I will continue to work towards making this article NPOV, properly sourced, and useful to those seeking an accurate record of the hysterics that so often follows catastrophe. Cheers. -- BD2412 talk 00:50, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

A Perry[edit]

Thanks for the note - "vandalism" was a bit harsh - I had an editing conflict message appear as I was trying to save - and the first thing I saw was BLOKE - as I had just added poet - I assumed the worst! Hopefully between us we've improved it! :) The curate's egg 08:32, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
