Sources needed for Days of the Year pages[edit]

You're probably not aware but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the content guideline and the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. The linked article about the material you added to November 22 did not have any source that I could add to this page to back up your addition so this change has been undone. If you restore it, please provide a direct reliable source. Thanks. Toddst1 (talk) 11:46, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have added Kari Tapio back, with a reference to Helsingin Sanomat published two days after his death. It's in Finnish but the birth and death dates are clearly visible there. JIP | Talk 11:53, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nakukymppi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Fictional elements deletions[edit]

Hi, thank you again for replying to my old message on Talk:Summer Bay. I've noticed a number of fictional characters/elements being nominated for deletion, and I was just wondering if there was a discussion about doing this somewhere, maybe at a WikiProject? As someone who edits in this area (mostly soap opera related articles), I feel like I've missed something. - JuneGloom07 Talk 22:45, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don’t believe this was a valid close. Once other commenters have voted for something other than keep, and especially if discussion is ongoing as it was here, the discussion should be allowed to continue regardless of whether or not the nominator themselves withdraws their nomination. See Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#Procedure_for_non-administrator_close_(nominator_withdrawal) Hugsyrup 18:04, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Then the article can be nominated for deletion for a third time. JIP | Talk 21:18, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Helsinki Tour[edit]

My job is taking me from Tromso to Stockholm to Helsinki to St. Petersburg to Warsaw to Berlin this July. I have two days between my job in Stockholm and Helsinki. I figure it only takes one to travel, so I have a whole day that I have to spend in either Stockholm or Helsinki. It appears that you know a lot about one or the other (or both). If you can picture yourself a fat, rude New Yorker, with little endurance and no concept of any language except English, do you have suggestions on what to do? I am strongly considering having my wife fly out to spend the day with me. So, you'd have two fat, rude Americans stomping around. My wife says she wants to check out a chocolate shop. I keep telling her that Swiss chocolate comes from Switzerland, not Sweden or Finland. Of course, I'm also trying to get her to understand that Finland is not a city in Sweden. Geography in our education system is limited to knowing that Canada is up and Mexico is down. 135.84.167.41 (talk) 17:44, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I really enjoy your predictions such as Wikipedia_talk:Six-million_pool. I commented on your predictions at Wikipedia_talk:Five-million_pool back in 2015 and have been following them since then. I suggest posting similar predictions at Wikipedia_talk:Billionth_edit_pool. That would be interesting to see. --User101010 (talk) 03:51, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Star Trek[edit]

thanks for the pool prediction data. im sort of excited. you lkke star trek? before he was signed to direct Star Trek the Motion Picture, i met the director Robert Wise when i was a kid. i mean really meet him: stayed at his Malibu mansion with my dad, went out to lunch with him, saw a broadway play. he was about to direct Andromeda Strain. i still love his star trek film the best. he was a very nice man, treated me like an adult, not everyone in hollywood is a narcissistic jerk. i have a piece of stationery from him to my dad, with the star trek movie theme printed on it. probably a teeny collectors item.
