Suburb disambiguations[edit]

I just noticed that you've been creating some for New South Wales towns - but is there any chance you could do a bit of a search when you add them, so as to catch some of the other potential meanings? As an example, there's about five people called Ashcroft in Wikipedia, a court case and a couple of towns. It's not that important, but it does make the disambiguation pages somewhat more useful. Mind you, my view may be a little unusual in that my own accent still has strong southern English overtones so I don't really have a "natural" ear for NZ or Australian accents. French ensigns[edit]

Thanks for your comment on my RfA! By way of explanation (also posted to the RfA),

I reverted that (yesterday) coming directly in from IRC, and when I double checked the edit I noticed the pointer to the talk page from the anon. However when I looked at the talk page, I didn't really see anything that maintained a clear consensus for removing that section, indeed I didn't really see anything that I felt gave me clear guidance as to the consensus on that section, but that's also me looking at an unfammiliar discussion on an unfamiliar page. I did however, see Talk:French_ensigns#Reverting_User_69.156.107.3_changes.__Please_stop_your_un-warranted_deletions, which was a comment asking the IP that had just blanked a serious portion of the article to not do so. Noting that, I felt reasonably safe in letting the reversion stand. Had I seen something that gave me clear guidance otherwise, I would have reverted back to the anon's edit, but I didnt feel like I had. Thanks for your comment. Western Sahara Infobox/Vote[edit]

He's also convinced me to change my vote, although there doesn't seem to be a section that will allow me to support the no flags with information option. Re:Other New Zealand Flag concepts[edit]

Not sure why you think that none of the flags shown on this page is from FOTW. As the designer of one of those flags, I can tell you that I drew the gif that is shown on this page as the proposed flag of Ross Dependency, and the only place on the web it has ever been sent is FOTW - so if it didn't come from there, someone must have stolen then from my computer. I can easily believe that the only place you've sent the Ross Dependency proposal to is the Flags of the World mailing list, but it is not on the Flags of the World website, and as far as I can tell through various archives, including www.archive.org, it hasn't been for quite a long time if at all. As a regular on FOTW, I can tell you that it was on there for quite a long time. As far as I know it only came off the FOTW website a month or two ago. The template on the image page is also marked with {{FOTWpic}}, so the person who uploaded the file clearly thinks he got it from FOTW. Given that it was on FOTW until recently, and it was uploaded by someone who says he got it from FOTW, and it hasn't been anywhere else online (other than via FOTW), I'd say it's about 99.99% certain it came from FOTW. I'll take your word for it that it was on FOTW-ws at some point, which suggests it is the source. I removed the notice because, I was and still am reasonably sure that it isn't there now, hasn't been removed from there since January, and hasn't been on the Ross Dependency page there since 2000 at least. Another factor that made me think there must be another source (possibly FOTW mailing list) is that the Dean Thomas proposals on the page also haven't been on FOTW-ws yet, including one that has been reported on FOTW-ml but has not as of today appeared on the website. Well, the reason I became involved in this to start with was that someone from FOTW contacted me offlist to complain that FOTW-ws images were being used on Wikipedia, and cited those pages in particular. Fitzroy[edit]

Because despite its claims,, the post merger club is not legally the same club as the pre-merger one - the original Fitzroy Football Club ceased to exist upon the merger just as the Brisbane Bears Football Club ceased to exist at the same time. I didn't think you were disrespecting the game - if I had thought that, I would have reverted without asking you why you did it! That sounds like a good reason, but it would be good to have a source showing that it was in fact a merger of the legal entities, not just a contract between them or something like that. I tend to think that the "modern" FFC should at least get a mention at Fitzroy Football Club, too, even if we don't support their claim that it's still the same entity. Hi there, just wanting your opinion on whether Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is a "selective high school"? User:Joestella says that it is, but I disagree with him: see User_talk:Joestella#Newtown_High_School_of_the_Performing_Arts_2. I guess it goes back to what we should include as a "selective school"? Centenary flag[edit]

Hi, do you have any idea how many points the Commonwealth Star on the Centenary Flag has? Also, from the details on the FOTW page it seems there is a ledger of use for the flag. The ANFA website has a picture [1], showing that it has a seven pointed commonwealth star, being the current Australian National Flag, as suggested by the wording of the warrant. Their page about the flag [2] quotes the proposal for the flag, which includes maintaining a ledger of its use. I would expect that this is actually happening, but I can't find any documentation beyond Raymond Morris' comments. It may be mentioned in the latest version of the "Australian National Flag" pamphlet that he mentions on the FOTW page. You might be able to get your hands on one of those more easily than me. It's good to see what you're doing with Sydney - my knowledge, etc is probably less useful for that article, but I'll help out when I can. JPD (talk) 11:00, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Three forms of mathematical induction[edit]

This article was intended to be comprehensible to all mathematicians.

It was not intended to teach mathematical induction. It was not intended to explain what mathematical induction is, nor how to use it.

What I see is (mostly) a bunch of non-mathematicians looking at the stub form in which the article appeared when it was nominated from deletion, and seeing that

  • It was not comprehensible to ordinary non-mathematicians who know what mathematical induction is, and
  • The article titled mathematical induction is comprehensible to ordinary non-mathematicians, even those who know --- say --- secondary-school algebra, but have never heard of mathematical induction.

And so I have now expanded the article far beyond the stub stage, including

  • Substantial expansion and organization of the introductory section.
  • Two examples of part of the article that is probably hardest to understand to those who haven't seen these ideas.
  • An prefatory statement right at the top, saying that this article is NOT the appropriate place to try to learn what mathematical induction is or how to use it, with a link to the appropriate article for that. It explains that you need to know mathematical induction before you can read this article.

Therefore, I invite those who voted to delete before I did these recent de-stubbing edits, to reconsider their votes in light of the current form of the article.

My Username[edit]

Hi. In June last year my username User:Jebus Christ was blocked. I discovered recently that the admin responsible User:Secretlondon was involved in protecting the article relating to the profet mahommed images under the banner of freedom of speach. I personally find this hypocritical.

The Irish Question[edit]

You may be aware that there has recently been a dispute about whether the {{British TOCs}} template should include Northern Irish train operators. In order to gain consensus and move forward there is currently a discussion about whether the scope of the template should be Great Britain or the United Kingdom. You have previously commented on this tempate but have not yet made any remarks in the latest discussion. I noticed that you and User:Mr nice guy are coming close to breaking the Wikipedia:Three-revert rule with revert 1, revert 2 and revert 3. Another revert within the 24 hour period can lead to a block for up to 24 hours for either or both of you. Titles[edit]

Is it really necessary to have a new line in the members list when a member gains the title "honourable" at Electoral district of Marrickville?For one thing, other members on this list don't have their titles included. JPD (talk) 09:09, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably not necessary. Some existing pages such as those under Category:Electoral divisions of Australia use titles. I've split rows where titles have changed on a number of pages because I was uncertain what title I should use particularly because they change over the political career. If the consensus is that the split is unnecessary, I can go through the tables and remerge them. I'd like to know first if the preferrable format is all titles adopted in the person's lifetime, or no title or some other variant. -- Newhoggy | Talk 11:41, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
