Reference[edit]

Hi JWLang. Just wanted to say thank you for adding in the specific reference on the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel article. So many people don't bother, and it's really great when an editor does. I did some formatting to fit in better with our manual of style - if you don't understand the changes, or think they are detrimental, please let me know. -- SiobhanHansa 22:12, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With the article above, first did you read WP:BIO? Make sure so you understand what the guidelines for inclusion are. Second, please note that per the manual of style that external links are not sources. They can be if used as references in the article through citations that would then show up in a references section. Next, please note that many other articles on Wikipedia do not meet inclusion criteria, and can also be deleted. It just takes time to get to them all, it's nothing personal. And one reason why we try to delete them as we go along is so that people don't take it personally because other similar articles exist. Mehl may or may note be notable, but the article currently does not demonstrate this. If you want the article to meet the guidelines, go in and cite the material used from reliable sources that are independent of Mehl. For instance if this was an article on Mike Belotti (head coach of the Oregon Ducks), we would not allow media releases from the University of Oregon to establish notability. After notability is established those non-third party sources could be used to fill in the gaps of missing info. The last caveat that editors often trip over is that the independent sources need to have significant coverage of the subject. For instance you mentioned an opening prayer, and if let's say The Oregonian gives a one paragraph worth of coverage to the topic in a page long article, then that is trivial. Basically, is the article about Mehl (in this instance) or is he just mentioned in an article about something else, like with the church he is affiliated? Each article has to stand on its own feet. Signature[edit]

FYI you only use the ~~~~ signature on talk pages, and then only on the talk page itself, not in the edit summary. Its a newbie mistake we all make. Aboutmovies 20:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
