Decision Time[edit]
I have decided to focus on Farm crisis for the remainder of the semester. I think this topic is most suitable for the project because it has both modern and historic implications. There are plenty of sources. I am confident that I will be able to make a significant contribution to this page.
Topics for Consideration[edit]
I chose three possible topics relating to economics because I am an economics and mathematics major.
1. The first article I researched was the stub article Farm crisis. This topic is a current issue both internationally and domestically. New articles are published everyday. A Google Scholar search returned over 800,000 results. This article is worth writing about because it pertains to each and everyone of our lives. I believe I could make a significant contribution to a fairly important article. This article is the most likely topic that I will be pursuing. It is actually surprising that it is still a stub topic on wikipedia.
2. The next stub article I considered was Mandeville's paradox. Mandeville's Paradox is an old subject, but there are plenty of improvements that can be made to the article. Also, some economists have reconsidered the concept of Mandeville's Paradox in recent history. The Bertrand Library has 31 books that contain information regarding this topic. The concept is controversial and it would allow me to utilize my new found wikipedia skills by making a significant contribution while presenting a balance of all points of view. This topic would be difficult to avoid opinions. Although once the information was sorted, this could be the most rewarding article to write about.
3. Overcapitalization is the last stub article I considered for my wikipedia project. This is an issue that effects many different markets throughout the world, but has the largest impact on the fishing industry. There has been plenty of research done on this topic. There are 7,000 hits on Google Scholar and 225 books in the library that pertain to this topic. I believe that I can make a significant contribution to this article based on these extensive databases. This topic has both historical and modern information that would need to be applied. It could be difficult to determine what is fact and what is speculation, especially as far as the current economic status of China.
All three of my articles for consideration are graspable and notable stubs that I believe would better wikipedia if significantly contributed to by myself and others in the wikipedia community.
