Class assignment[edit]

Hello, Jak0313! Welcome to Wikipedia! It appears that you are here to participate in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Click here for the online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia's page for questions. You can also ask me by visiting my user talk page and leaving a message, or you can ask your question on this page by editing it and placing {{Help me}} before your question. Please make sure that you sign your messages on discussion pages, which is done by entering four tildes (~~~~) at the very end of it; this will automatically insert your username and the date. I also highly recommend that you review the advice for students page.

Before you create an article, make sure that you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one, please tell your instructor about creating one. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know that the article is a subject of an educational assignment as well as aid your communication with them.

Here are some more pages that you might find helpful:

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished!

Medical articles[edit]

When editing articles related about medical-related topics, please bear in mind is that the standards for citations for these is higher than the general standard for sources in Wikipedia articles. Focus more on review articles and less on the latest discoveries. Findings like these are very difficult for a non-expert to put in the proper context without synthesizing a whole body of research literature. While we encourage the use of secondary and tertiary sources in general, this is especially important in medical-related topics. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:55, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

April 2015[edit]

Hello, I'm Velella. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Pyrethrin  with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.  Velella  Velella Talk   13:26, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pyrethrin[edit]

Thanks for the note on my talk page. I brought the reply here to ensure that you were aware of it. Certainly using edit summaries are very helpful in avoiding reverts, especially when working with large blocks of text. May I also caution against very significant changes in article without very carefully reviewing the material being removed and the material replacing it. Because of the way Wikipedia has grown, some paragraphs, sentences and even phrases may have subtly precise meanings that are not immediately obvious. The article talk page is a good place to check out past history to see whether there have been any particularly picky debates. Please also be aware that when quoting a reference to support your text that it actually does support your text. For example in your addition:"Because of its high toxicity in fish and other aquatic invertebrates even at low doses, either pesticide-free methods or safer alternatives should be used instead of pyrethrin that are less harmful to the surrounding aquatic environment.<ref>http://www.epa.gov/oppsrrd1/reevaluation/pyrethroids-pyrethrins.html{{full|date=April 2015}}</ref>" your text doesn't seem to be borne out by the ref (even though it may be good sense). Please also try and avoid " how to do" phrasing. Rather than "....safer alternatives should be used instead of pyrethrin ......", consider phrasing such as "...the EPA recommends alternatives such as.....". Have fun with the project.
