Welcome![edit]

Hello, Jaredball, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Jared Ball, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! I am confused by this. I am Jared Ball. Who else has access to edits if not me? How could me editing my own page be a conflict of interest? Jaredball (talk) 15:45, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please read Wikipedia:Autobiography.--TM 17:21, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. User:Namiba 16:50, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And what would that be? 68.134.17.229 (talk) 17:00, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why were my own edits to my own page undone? 68.134.17.229 (talk) 17:01, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So i need permission to update information on my books or to job title or what of my own life is highlighted? wow. thats amazing. well, i hope you and whoever you deem worthy, edit my life a bit more accurately and perhaps in ways that better reflect who i actually am, what i am actually doing, or what i actually think. thanks! peace. 68.134.17.229 (talk) 17:04, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I encourage you to read Wikipedia:Autobiography and to not take edits personally.--User:Namiba 17:13, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is an example of conflict-of-interest editing and is strongly discouraged. Editing a biography about yourself is acceptable only if you are removing unambiguous vandalism or clear-cut and serious violations of our biography of living persons policy."--User:Namiba 17:14, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
lol don't take public presentation of your life and likeness personally. that's funny. thanks. its cool. enjoy your platform. 68.134.17.229 (talk) 17:16, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For transparencies sake noting that I blocked the IP address, it's confusing when an editor edits logged out this way. I posted to the IP address asking them not to and was ignored, so... Doug Weller talk 07:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

September 2023[edit]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Jaredball, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username.

If you choose to keep your current username, please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org including your real name and your Wikipedia username to receive instructions from our volunteer response team about account verification. Please do not send documentation without being requested to do so.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Thank you. Doug Weller talk 19:12, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now I - the person in question - is permanently blocked? How is this determined? I logged in - as I had done before - and made updating and accurate changes to a page claiming it accurately represents me. But somehow and instead I am forever blocked. Again, wow. I wonder then who is qualified to update or report my life? Thanks. 68.134.17.229 (talk) 19:23, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I’m going to block your IP now. I told you to use this account. Your response shows that you haven’t read the block notice. That’s both disappointing and annoying. Doug Weller talk 20:52, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 21:20, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, Doug was taken away from our chat? Before apologizing? And yet here I am verified. Amazing. Jaredball (talk) 21:49, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Doug, unblock me or come up with - a - "reason" ("another" suggests there was ever a valid reason). And add your apology while you are at it and with that same rapidity and energy Doug that you had for the block. Jaredball (talk) 21:53, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
One reason could be the uncivil behavior demonstrated above and not assuming good faith. Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 22:04, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Doug was quite uncivil. I just asked why I was being blocked from making changes. if you note I had been congratulated for making my 10th change as I had done so while logged in. I get the Wiki-team solidarity but the lack of civility has been on your end. But thats fine. You all win. I won't bother you any more. I'll just hope that someone deemed worthy one day updates my page. Or I'll just review it as a time capsuled snapshot of what once was. lol You all are awesome. thanks again! Not for nothing, a bit of humility would go a long way. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 22:06, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It sure would. Jaredball (talk) 22:19, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Show me don't tell me. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 04:08, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've unblocked. I'm don't think I need to apologise for being in a different time zone and sleeping when the verification took place. I haven't even had breakfast yet but as soon as I saw this pop up as a notification I came here to do it. Doug Weller talk 07:10, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jaredball, there are concepts like "timezones" and "sleep" and "family" and "life off Wikipedia" and "volunteer administrators are not obligated to be on duty 24 hours a day". Please ponder those concepts. Cullen328 (talk) 07:12, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Doug is in the United Kingdom and is just starting his day. I am in California and am now getting ready for bed. This is a worldwide project. Cullen328 (talk) 07:16, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
BY the way, Jared, I'm a member of the UK Green Party. My actions have been strictly according to our protocol and are not a comment in any way about you personally. You'll get on here a lot better if you click on WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL. Doug Weller talk 09:14, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Doug, did you read those pages? You should. It seems you have not. In the end, I logged in properly, as I had in the past, attempted to make minor, accurate updates to "my" page, and instead got unnecessary attitude (and now multiple messages from others) even after logging in and verifying. Volunteering or having work schedules - as we all do - is no excuse for the condescending comments and inappropriate blocking by you or you're now joining in (?) colleagues. You all win. Congratulations. My changes were removed, my page now has some error or warning on it, and I am leaving. Thank you all again for your unheralded championing of honesty, accuracy, and decency. I hope this additional victory sustains you all to your next. Peace. Jaredball (talk) 10:21, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!! Jaredball (talk) 10:13, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Jaredball. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Jared Ball, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Doug Weller talk 07:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
