A tag has been placed on Reynolds Plantation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. October 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Reynolds Plantation, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Happysailor (Talk) 20:37, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JasonMurray - Thank you for the message you left on my talk page regarding the Reynolds Plantation article. There were a number of concerns with the article in it's existing state which were the reasons for my deletion of it, and of the similar article Reynolds plantation. The main problem with the article was that it was written in an overly promotional tone. It is, of course, understandable that you would want to show your employer in a positive light, but the article was written rather like a complimentary article in a magazine, rather than in the form of an encyclopedia article, which is what we are looking for. There are quite a lot of direct quotes, which really do make it read like an magazine or newspaper review (in my opinion, at least). The other issue which concerns me is the lack of reliable sources to establish notability. I know there were some websites listed at the bottom of the article, but these were just to the front pages of the sites, and would be more suitable as external links.

As you are employed by the subject of the article, you may also like to read our information about editing with a conflict of interest. Editors are not forbidden from editing articles with which they have a conflict, but generally they need to tread carefully, make sure to work in line with our policies and guidelines and seek advice from other editors, particularly when making controversial edits.

You wrote on my talk page, "The most recent page that was added is pulled from a book that our staff wrote on the history of Reynolds Plantation and the golf courses here". This means that Wikipedia was effectively publishing a copyright violation, unless the book was published under a specific license allowing republishing and commercial use. I understand this may seem a bit odd, as you work for the organisation which wrote the book, but Wikipedia has a very strict policy on copyright, and we could only use this text verbatim if the copyright owner gives us specific permission (see Donating copyright materials for information on how to do this). If the book has been generally published, however, we may be able to use it as a source in the article.

As for where you can go from here, I would suggest a couple of things.

  1. Start an article in your user space eg. at User:JasonMurray/Reynolds Plantation. Gather some reliable sources first, and write an article based on what they say. I notice from your previous article that the Plantation has been written about in Golf Magazine, forbes.com and Condé Nast Traveller, among others. I believe any non-trivial mention in these would count as a reliable source. If possible, provide web links directly to the articles which write about the Reynolds Plantation so that it is easy for others to confirm the references.
  2. You could ask our project focused on Golf for assistance or advice. This group of editors would be able to provide more specific help on the subject.
  3. Ask for feedback on the article you have written at Requests for feedback or the helpdesk (or I would be happy to provide feedback if you like). Once an article is ready for publishing, it can be moved into the main article space.

I'm afraid I may have overloaded you somewhat with information there, but I hope some of it is helpful. There seems to be enough information on the Reynolds Plantation to create an article, it is really the promotional/copyright issues which are the problem. If there's anything I can help you with, feel free to leave me a note, or visit the Help desk, which provides answers to all kinds of Wikipedia-related questions. Good luck! --Kateshortforbob talk 15:51, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
