Indo-Aryans, Veddahs, Bengalis

Í thought of writing to as you might know the subject, in Sinhala people article, clostest ethnic groups have been mentioned as Indo-Aryans, Veddahs, Bengalis. But not the tamils. -Iross1000 (talk) 08:21, 2 May 2009 (UTC).

  • Original Sinhalese who came to Lanka 2000 - 3000 years ago (very small population then) may be from Bengal or Gujarat. But since then most of the arrival is possibly from South India and Northern Sri Lanka. Both locations are physically closer to southern Sri Lanka. This type of migration is happening even today and Tamils are becoming Sinhalese. Hence majority of Sinhalese possibly have Tamil ancestry. This is reflected in Sri Lankan Tamil people article but not in Sinhala people article. -Iross1000 (talk) 22:53, 4 May 2009 (UTC).

I added the following, which was deleted by you saying 'it is irrelevant'. That is hillarious to say the least. How can links to the first time find of Prabhakaran's family photos be irrelevant. That's an important discovery and gives you an insight into Prabhakaran's personal life. Talk about not thinking through it.

Recently, family photos of Prabhakaran's were published by Sri Lankan Army where he can be seen with his wife, son and daughter. See External Links.

Please do not delete navigation lists

I noticed you placed a prod on List of French people. Lists comprise one of Wikipedia's parallel navigation systems. The redundancy and co-existence of our nav systems is explained and encouraged in Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates, and they are all part of Wikipedia's overall contents system.

The Lists of people make up a huge branch of Wikipedia's list system. List of French people belongs to that set. Please don't delete it.

The comments that I have made, is done as these records state, as their writings by these Colonialists and it is up to the reader to accept or not too. phonetic transcripts of his name

I corrected the previously entered transcription to this: [vēlluːppəllaɪ Pɪraːpǎkaːraːn]

However, you changed it again and stating that you know phonetics. So i leave it. Can you perhaps send me an e.mail about the errors in my transcription (at least about few alphabets) that you disagree with. Thank you.

Thank you very much for sending some explanations. It is indeed interesting and of course the errors in my entry (at least one) was noted. It is also little exercise.

As you are also very much into it with the linguistic components, I add here few more things--Since the Tamil word is converted here only in English transcription, it would be better if the alphabets are only matches the closest possible IPA (standard)of English. For example, the IPA of "vē" in "vehicle" is the closest match to the Tamil syllable "வே".

So if one checks the pronunciations of the said Tamil words in the IPA of English, the cossets matches would be the entry that i gave. However, I would appreciate to hearing from further if could provide a sample English word that contains the closest Tamil alphabets.

Yessss, you reaction shows something of your in-depth knowledge in phonetics in which i am an introductory reader. i Hope this clarifies things further--

IPA is still in an immature state as to their linguistic conventions in term of their arbitrariness which represent the sign and sound relation. One does need to go further to understand this complexity, other than just looking at the English language and its phonetic characters. Some English words are strait forward in the IPA as to their relations in term of their phonetic environment; many other words are still of their bare arbitrariness (as their correctness canot be justified). So unless the IPA of a given language can be testable with a IPA of an other language, it is still inmature state of its linguistic correctness. For example, English does not take all of the IPA for its phonetic trancripts. So there is such thing as which are of English specific and which are not. To simply this, lets say if "வே" can be closley matched using IPA than the pronunsiation of "vē" in English, then the IPA is correct; if not the "vē" is correct. It is a norm i think that if a forign word is expressed in a text, then the phonetic pronunciation of such word is also expresed using the same phonetic charactors of the IPA of that given language.
