I think this article is quite interesting with the different studies of interactional socialinguistics. I think the section on John J Gumperz, it should be made slightly more clear why he plays an important role in interracial socialinguistics, perhaps in the beginning or end of that section, nothing to big. Also I think the practice section could be split up maybe through adding paragraphs based on different studies or anthropologists because it is a big block of text, but other than that it is a really interesting section. This article is great work and I found it quite interesting. I find the definition of interactional sociolinguistics simple to understand but nicely detailed. I also find the background on Gumperz helpful in understanding how interactional sociolinguistics was created. A few notes for suggestion would be first, a clarification of the topics of interest stated that are stated in the last sentence of the introduction paragraph. Are they topics of interest within interactional sociolinguistics or interests of Gumperz and how do they relate? Another note for suggestion would be that there are three people who are used as examples within the “In Practice” section that could use more background. While I think that they add value to the context of the article, they could be introduced in maybe a sentence or two so that it can be understood who they are and how they apply to interactional sociolinguistics. Finally, maybe dive a little deeper into the theories behind interactional sociolinguistics which are mentioned at the end of the final paragraph.
