Film notability, BLP sourcing[edit]

I've redirected two of the film articles you've created for Doherty's work. The reason for this is that you didn't really show how they passed WP:NFILM and many of the sources you used were not usable as reliable sources per WP:RS. IMDb cannot be used as a source to show notability and at most it's a database that can back up small details. Many of the reviews you listed were on sites with no verifiable editorial oversight and are at best self-published sources. I'm familiar with some of the sites labeled as SPS, but being known/popular does not automatically mean that something is usable as a RS. That's kind of a big issue sometimes with niche and indie horror films- the bigger and more established horror websites usually don't cover them, let alone the mainstream press. Some of the websites (Dread Central, Bloody Disgusting, HorrorNews.net) do try to address this, but they can only review a small percentage of the films out there. It makes me long for Fearnet since they used to be really REALLY gung ho about trying to review the little guys.

I also noted that in one article (Lights, Action, BLOOD!) you tried to use this article like it was a film review. However the thing is that this article is not a film review- it was a posting about the film's trailer and should not be treated like it's a review of the film itself. The coverage for LAB was so light that I ended up redirecting it to the main article for the film director. Since it's still playing at film festivals it's likely that it'll get more coverage so I'm not terribly worried that it'll languish forever as a redirect. Wild Turkeys, however, is a different story. I can't see where anyone actually reviewed or covered the film, so I've redirected it to the main article. It's possible that it may get a few reviews and news articles in the future, but it was made in 2008 and the older a film gets the harder it is for it to receive reviews from RS.

There was also an issue with you inserting a lot of unsourced content into the article for Doherty and Black Bridge. Per WP:BLP any and all content must be sourced via a RS, otherwise it can/will be removed. It also had some issues with tone, as it was kind of casual in how it was written and came across somewhat like storytelling. This had the unintentional side effect of making it sound a little promotional. Be very, very careful about how you phrase things so that personal opinions don't come into the writing. Avoid terms like "edgy" since those are considered to be WP:BUZZWORDS. In any case, you do assert that there was coverage of this and if you can find that news coverage then we can add a more neutrally written version of the robbery.

Also I hate to ask this, but are you involved with Doherty in any way? I ask this because the content about the robbery did sort of sound like you knew Doherty. You can still edit but people with a conflict of interest will need to exercise a lot of caution and follow policy very, very closely.

Now all of that aside, it's nice to see that someone else is interested in creating articles about horror films, especially niche and independent films. I'll warn you- this is a pretty difficult task and often an unrewarding one because it's so incredibly common for a lot of films to run so solidly under the radar that you'd think that they were in the Bermuda Triangle. Sorry if that sounds a little futile, but I can't tell you how hard it is sometimes to source films. Heck, I'll try to source things that screen at the more well known film festivals (Fright Fest, for example) and find that the films fail notability guidelines. Thanks for the reply Tokyogirl79 - and the clarification. Yes, I am related to Kevin. I have included some of his films on Wiki because I had noted along the way that there are quite a few films listed on Wiki that hardly have any info or references at all (some only list an IMDb reference) and many, as you stated above, "Many of the reviews you listed were on sites with no verifiable editorial oversight and are at best self-published sources. The problem with that is that while the sources can't be used, sometimes they still make it on to various film pages. In some cases this ends up happening because someone who writes the SPS comes on and adds them- this usually happens a few times each year. Other times it's that people just don't know that SPS aren't usable as RS and in one case a few years back I had someone who knew that they were unusable, yet they wanted to add them because the film reviews were positive.
