Deletion of Aussie Pollie Stubs

I am very concerned about the recent deletion of around 50 stubs on Australian politicians. These articles lay the foundation for what Wikipedia will one day be..."a multilingual free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality to every single person on the planet in their own language" (Jimmy Wales). This however will not happen overnight. I draw parallels to my own project on Central Coast, New South Wales articles. 90% of the suburbs are stubs. But these stubs encourage anyone to edit. Even trivial information has a place on Wikipedia. It should not worry YOU if the articles contained very little information, but you should be happy that the articles had information. In many cases these articles only needed an infobox and they would have been reasonably adequate. There's a AfD nomination for Chris Gymer (which is the correct procedure for article deletion; admins will not use a talk page vote to keep or delete an article). Caltabiano

You removed information that was relevant for no apparent reason. These included a) the circumstances of the by-election, b) the fact that he was very widely considered heir apparent should Flegg fall, and c) wiping out most of the detail concerning his election defeat. Bismuth edit

I should have put more of my thinking on the TALK page. As it is, this bit of article, which was supposed to be on crystals, was getting to be a collection of warnings and user instructions for amateurs. This is sort of unencyclopedic, since it's not our job to tell people about dangers of home hobbies, or give instructions on do it yourself dangerous stuff. We've had problems putting that stuff even in the "precautions" sections of element articles (which some people have argued shouldn't even BE there at ALL). Nevertheless, the precaution section has survived for particularly trecherous elements like sodium, sort of as a public service. But I'd hate to see "precaution creep" in this fashion, all over wikis, intended for people who are bound and determined to screw up with some material--- and that's what I thought I was detecting here. New South Wales general election campaign, 2007‎

After I reorganised and rewrote New South Wales general election campaign, 2007‎ last night it occurred to me that the whole thing seems pretty one-sided. The basic narrative of the campaign seems to be bad news story after bad news story for the government, not that the opposition has had much success in capitalising on that. I can't think of any notable good news stories for the government (or more than a couple of bad news stories for the opposition) - any ideas?

At the very least, finding a way to summarise the concrete, notable promises and policies of the major parties would probably help the article to seem less POV. Joestella 06:43, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I hope that you don't go from the election articles, your edits look good to me and we need good editors!! It is certainly going to be a nasty year, I keep having to revert POV on WA articles about the Nationals, it is really absurd how people hate a party without even knowing what it is or what it stands for. It's sad that articles have to be abandoned to POV just because of some determined users :( The WA Nationals really have three sections, the first one is a conservative mostly older group who go back to the David Brand days of coalition government, the next one is a centrist/moderate mostly younger group who are proud of their party's origins but feel it needs to move forward (this group are most definitely in charge now as well as a majority in membership) and the other one is a fringe group who probably belong more in One Nation or CDP or some other party like that. In some ways since coming to Perth I have noticed that the Nationals in my area attract the same people who would probably join Labor in the city, the few branches there are in the Perth metro are too conservative :( The WA party was the first conservative party in Australia to affirm gay civil unions, funny story, at the meeting that that vote was taken, Mark Vaile was there visiting, and he just silently watched and then left the room. Last time Barnaby was here he got a real good reception, I'm hoping that other guy in QLD gets in so we can revitalise the Nationals nationally (if you pardon the juxtaposition there!!) Please do not make personal attacks as you did at User:Jeendan. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Farewell Jeendan

It disappoints me that Jeendan has seen fit to leave Wikipedia because of the user's political persuasion. Given Jeendan's broad knowledge of politics, we can only hope that this user account has been abandoned in favour of another, and that she is just trying to make a political point with an abusive "dead" user page.

In the farewell, the user charges that I'm in the service of the NSW branch of the Liberal Party of Australia. I can assure other editors that this is not the case. For my part, I consider much of Jeendan's work to be partisan apologia for the NSW branch of the Australian Labor Party.

Jeendan's colleagues on the left have been able to block the deletion of her attack page through the weight of their numbers on Wikipedia. This sort of bullying is probably the reason for the left's numerical superiority here. But I'm not going anywhere.

It's funny. Now that Jeendan is gone, I miss her intellectual rigour. It's sadly lacking among the leftists who remain. Joestella 07:53, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
