John Webb[edit]
John Paul Webb (born March 8, 2001) is an American journalist and news anchor for Channel 3 TV, a community channel serving all of Shoshone County, Idaho. Channel 3 is a relatively new program in the Silver Valley, one that John helped launch in February of 2016. Webb runs the news, weather, sports, and programming department for the channel. On the side, Webb co-hosts a podcast called Sharing with the Silver Valley, a show developed by himself and Wallace proprietor, Heidi Lee. John anchored news and weathercasts for KWAL before the radio station later closed in the summer of 2018. Webb signed the station off the air and was the last voice to be fed out through the air waves.
Early Life[edit]
John was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Webb has two half sisters and one step sibling, as well as four nieces and two nephews. Webb attended the Wallace Jr/Sr High School and will graduate in May of 2019. He plans to attend the University of Idaho where he'll get his Bachelors in Broadcasting and Digital Media. As a child, John recalls watching CNN and KXLY 4 News almost every day with his grandfather. He believes that's why he became so intrigued by the news. During his 7th grade year, KREM 2 News conducted a LIVE shot from a home football game. Webb says after watching the broadcast happen right in front of his eyes, he knew what he wanted to do as an adult.
Career[edit]
KWAL Radio From 2016 to 2018, Webb worked as a News & Weather Anchor in Osburn, Idaho. Webb began his career at KWAL after interning during the summer of 2016. During the school year, Webb would broadcast evening newscasts and direct basketball and football games. In the summer of 2017, he was promoted to the Program Manager and Mining and Money Host positions. Webb would later sign the station off of the air in 2018 after a man knocked over KWAL's north tower.
Channel 3 News In February of 2016, John debuted a new program called Channel 3 News. Webb had been planning the program for quite some time and he finally had the chance after the Wallace School Board approved the new Interactive Media class. While anchoring and managing the channel, Webb interviewed the top five nominees for Idaho Governor: Brad Little, Raul Labrador, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Ahlquist, Paulette Jordan, and AJ Balukoff. He also covered one of President Trump's rally's in Missoula on October 18, 2018.
KXLY 4 News In the summer of 2018, Webb became a stringer for KXLY 4 News in Spokane. After visiting evening anchor, Nadine Woodward and executive producer, Camie Yngelmo, John made an agreement to feed them with information, video and interviews from the Silver Valley.
Personal Life[edit]
John was born in Idaho, then later moved to Eastern Montana, where his fathers side of the family is from. At the age of 4, the Webb's moved back to Wallace. Webb is an avid outdoorsman. During the summer Webb loves to spend time on the lake. Catch him on a boat, fishing, water skiing, or floating the river. During the winter John enjoys skiing and snowmobiling.
Webb is also a very active student at his high school. He has been a part of the school's video announcements, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, and Student Government. He is the current National Honor Society Secretary and Associated Student Body President for the Wallace Jr/Sr High School.
