Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Jessranthony and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Go through our online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 18:21, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cheela Smith

[edit]

Nice start on your article, but it currently has no inline citations, which makes it difficult for readers to verify factual statements in your article. Every statement should be followed by a supporting citation; if a group of sentences are all supported by the same source, you can place a single reference after all of them, but you need to have at least one reference per paragraph, and you shouldn't have any statements after the final reference in a paragraph. If you need a refresher on how to add citations, please consult this training module.

Your article also lacks a lead section. A Wikipedia article is supposed to start with a lead section that summarizes all the major points of the article. It should generally open with something like Article title is... and go on to succinctly say what the topic is in the opening sentence. If you are unable do this, your article title might not be right for a Wikipedia article.

The remainder of the lead needs to summarize all the major points of the article, in proportion to the way they're covered in the body of the article. Nothing should be in the lead that's not discussed in more depth in the article body. If you have a look at pages 7-9 in the Editing Wikipedia brochure which I have linked to here, you can learn more about article layout. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 04:53, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review

[edit]

You did a great job at adding context behind the information (the new law, reasons behind Grimke’s educational support, Grimke’s activity as president). Each piece was cited, however, the 11th reference seems to be cited incorrectly. The citation seems to have unnecessary words in there (and it is too long). There seems to be a lot of work that could be done. I suggest finding the citations for the information about Grimke running away to Florida and cutting himself off from his family. You should also try to work off of what the editor prior to you was doing. There is this one part in brackets that said “further explanation needed,” and this is something that you could possibly work off of if you’re having trouble thinking about what else to add because of how much diverse information is already present in the article. I also suggest that you sift through the other references that were already cited to see if there is any more information that you can extract from them. More references should be added to, explain in the paragraphs below the one that says “further explanation needed.”

The lead seems pretty strong as it is, but if you find any more information, be sure to update as you go along. As for organization, I think you should move the “Brothers” heading to be above “Grimke sisters” and turn it into a subheading. Also, I think you should move “Career” to be before marriage and family.

Also change: “Gilbert and his wife recognized the Archibald and Francis' talents and garnered support to send them to the North” to “Gilbert and his wife recognized Archibald and Francis' talents and garnered support to send them to the North.” Also, read through the article again.

Other than that, the edits you made were excellent overall! Continue adding and editing. The edits that you can make in the future may seem tiny, but they add up! Jelopple (talk) 16:01, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cheela Smith moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Cheela Smith, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 12:10, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
