Welcome to WIKISOO!

[edit]

Welcome to the WIKISOO class! Lecture is underway at https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?password=M.7EF1419357E089BCE412FAEDFCA8C2&sid=2008170. Hope to see you Tuesdays and Thursdays. Darn. Missed it again. Please keep me posted. Jg1141 (talk) 00:43, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Jg, are you getting our email announcements? If not, it's possible your email address didn't make it into our system. Please contact me directly if you haven't been getting them, and I'll make sure to get your address on the list. Hope to see you in class Tuesday!
Pete - Got an email about this post of yours. So I think I'm on the list correctly. Jg1141 (talk) 21:23, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(Also, are you aware that our full archives are posted? See the table at the bottom of our course page for links. We are getting better about posting video versions of them too, which should be a little easier to watch than the Blackboard Collaborate versions!) -Pete (talk) 21:04, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Pete - Just a bit confused by the big red "Click here to join live session" on the WIKISOO page as that link only works when there is a live session going. Might be good to put something like a countdown to next event link there when a session isn't in progress. (?) Jg1141 (talk) 21:23, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking the same thing, thanks for mentioning it. I think it was initially too hard to find the link, and perhaps we overcorrected. I've tried to improve it -- let me know if this makes more sense? Sorry for the confusion! -Pete (talk) 21:54, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looks better. Ideally the link would automatically show the countdown and then "Session in progress" but I guess that requires a kind of widget that we don't have yet (?) or which isn't allowed on Wikipedia pages (?). When I was helping to host a series of Google+ hangouts recently, I used a Google Doc -- just as the WIKISOO class is using Etherpad -- and manually updated the status and link at the top of that page, switching from a countdown to in-progress to archive links ("starting in 15 minutes" ... "starting in 5 minutes" ... "live" ... "view archive"). Note also the reverse-chronological order, so the link people want is at the top ... Jg1141 (talk) 22:04, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
