Welcome![edit]

Hello, Jherrera0804, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

question response[edit]

Hi , I saw your question on my talk page. Looks like you created a new sandbox, which you can find here: User talk:Jherrera0804/New sandbox. Hope that helps. I'll also add a link from your original sandbox page. Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:17, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jherrera0804:, actually, your new sandbox should be in article (MAIN) namespace, so it can have its own talk page. When you have a sandbox page, it's useful for people to be able to make comments and leave messages about the sandbox article, just like they would on the Talk page of a real article. Your professor, classmates, or WikiEd content experts may wish to leave comments about your New sandbox article for you. However, in its current file location, they cannot do that, because it is already a talk page (i.e., it's in the wrong Wikipedia Namespace).
A better place for your "New sandbox" would be as a subpage of your User page. In its current location at User talk:Jherrera0804/New sandbox it cannot have a Talk page associated with it, because it is already located in the Talk namespace. In addition, occupying this slot blocks people from commenting on your regular sandbox page, User:Jherrera0804/sandbox.
Imho, your "New sandbox" should be moved to User:Jherrera0804/New sandbox. That way, it can have its own Talk page, and your regular sandbox can have its own talk page, and they won't be blocking each other. If you want this to happen, don't attempt the move yourself, you'll need help carrying out the move by someone with page-mover status, as you don't want to leave a redirect behind in this case. I can help if you wish. {{Ping}} me below if you want assistance with this. Adding Elysia (Wiki Ed). Mathglot (talk) 21:56, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notes[edit]

Hi! I have some notes on your draft:

  • This needs to have a lead/intro like other biography articles.
  • When referring to someone, use their last name - the first name should only be used if the article is about a family or more than one person with the same last name. In this case, you should use the last name Grez (Wilson would also likely be OK since it looks like she frequently goes by just Liliana Wilson) throughout the article.
  • Be careful when you're writing - make sure that you follow Wikipedia's writing style. Also be careful about grammar and punctuation. For example, paintings should be italicized rather than bolded.
  • With claims, make sure that you're only summarizing source material and that everything is sourced - particularly when it comes to writing about what her artwork represents, as we can only summarize what Grez or people commenting on her work have written.
  • Source-wise, be very careful with sourcing. Wikipedia cannot be used to source itself and isn't considered to be a reliable source. Also be careful to check to see if something is a primary or secondary source - the Ofrenda book is primary since the artist participated in its creation and is listed as one of its authors. You can use primary sources, but they're not able to show notability. You also use some sourcing that doesn't mention Grez. Be very careful with these. While you can use it to back up a basic claim that isn't about Grez (such as that the Chilean coup d'état occurred) you can't use it to back up claims that involve her, such as her being in law school, her reactions to the event, or anything about her. They also cannot show notability for Grez. What you really want to find here are independent, secondary sources that cover Grez's work such as a news article or academic journal piece about her or her work.

I think that you have a very good start here, it just needs more work. I definitely recommend reviewing this brochure that goes over how to create or edit biography articles. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:14, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice I will get to editing right away! Jherrera0804 (talk) 07:19, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi! I have some additional notes - I just saw that you uploaded some artwork by Wilson Grez, as well as a photograph of her. They're both credited to this website, however the website is marked under a very restrictive copyright that would prohibit any of its work from being uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Also, the image looks to be credited to Wilson Grez, who likely holds a similarly restrictive copyright over her works.

Basically, for something to be compatible with Commons, it would have to be released under a copyright that would allow users to adapt and use the image however they wish. This means that someone would be able to take the image and profit from it commercially, even if they never changed the image in question and that if they wanted, they could also change the image in any way they choose. Most images and work are released under a very restrictive copyright in order to both protect their commercial interests as well as to prevent any unauthorized adaptations and give them the ability to legally challenge anyone who sells or adapts the work in a way that they believe would harm their reputation or ability to profit from their work.

As such, this unfortunately means that the images cannot remain on Wikimedia Commons and need to be removed. I can help with this if you like! This is actually a pretty common mistake to make, so don't feel too bad about this - the important thing is that you learn from this. :) I actually keep a little cheat sheet here to help me remember which copyrights can be used and which can't, which you're definitely welcome to bookmark and review as needed. Also remember the general rule of thumb: if there's no copyright marked on the images, always assume that it's held under a copyright that isn't compatible with Wikipedia. I'd also like you to review the training module on uploading images and media, thanks. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:56, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
