Israel-Lebanon conflict[edit]

I'll have to revert your edit here; you may want to try adding these facts to the main article. This isn't really the right place to present more than a summary of what is already prominent in the main article; there's a danger of becoming a WP:POVFORK. -- Kendrick7talk 20:27, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FINAL Friendly Warning[edit]

J, we have been through this before and you do not want to be banned. Please do NOT engage in personal attacks in violation of NPA. Please do not remove people from the list without discussion first. The Lebanese sections, while not perfect, been adequately maintained by few of us who are dedicated to maintain them. So in the future, since I am CLEARLY disputing your actions, please submit your additions to the discussion and we will ask other editors to support or oppose them. Thank you. Lcnj 16:30, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message and for adhering to discussion and friendly disputes this time. Welcome aboard again, J... Lcnj 18:54, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your message[edit]

Hello Jix, thanks for your message. As you may be aware, I was the administrator who intervened in a conflict between Lcnj and Jaber previously. I blocked Jaber for continually making personal attacks though, to be frank, Lcnj's behaviour at the time was not far off being actionable itself.

The reason Lcnj is being less than welcoming to you is because he believes you are a sockpuppet of Jaber, and Jaber was quite unpleasant to him. I can understand why he may think that, as there is some similarities in your positions regarding the inclusion of individuals in the List of Lebanese people articles. On the other hand, its entirely possible that is simply co-incidental. I understand you claim not to be Jaber and, quite frankly, that is good enough for me as long as you continue to obey our policies, as I don't really care if indef blocked editors return, as long as they are capable of being constructive editors. I will request a WP:CHECK that could, hopefully, confirm your identity in relation to Jaber one way or the other. Lcnj has asked me to do this, and if it comes back negative, it might improve your relationship with him.

Anyway, I have spoke to Lcnj and reminded him that he should be civil keep his comments restricted to the content, and not the contributor. I would ask you to please do the same. For example, referring someone to http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/ is impolite and not constructive. Regarding your specific points:

  • Nonsense does have a specific meaning in WP, and it is not a personal attack, but neither does it apply in the context you used it. Nonsense is either text or random characters that have no assignable meaning at all or content that is so completely and irredeemably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to make any sense of it. The lists of fictional characters you called nonsense may be non-notable or trivial, but they fit neither definition of the word nonsense as we use it. Calling the work of an established editor nonsense is likely to provoke a hostile response, as most nonsense tends to be vandalism (another word one should be careful of using).
  • Lcnj may well have ownership issues regarding that page, but if you have genuine concerns about trivial material being there, there is a simple process through which you can proceed:
  • If there is material that does not have a reliable source establishing notability, then add a {{fact}} or {{unsourced}} template. If another editor does not provide a source establishing notability within a few days then simply remove it, making a note on the talkpage about that its notability was not sourced after a request (see WP:CITE#Tagging unsourced material). If they then revert it without discussion, let me (or another admin know) and they will take action.
  • Regarding reverts, WP:3RR is what you should read. Revert warring is not constructive and instead of reverting all the time, you should instead discuss your position on the talkpage to reach consensus. If you do revert, you should always explain why the reverted version is better in the talkpage or edit summary. If another editor reverts more than three times in a 24 hr period then you should report them for revert warring and they will be blocked.

For the record, I have no authority to opine on the content of the article, so I can't judge which version of the article is better. But if you simply keep asking for sources for questionable material, then the article should end up better in the end. Rockpocket 06:35, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jix. Yes indeed, the test results are in! Because you and Jaber have not overlapped, the Checkuser could not tell us that you are different people for absolute certain. However, if could have told us for sure that you are the same person for certain. This is not the case. However, it did confirm that you are editing from a different country from Jaber. Therefore, it is pretty convincing to me that you are different people (unless Jaber moved across Europe simply to avoid his block!) So on behalf of Lcnj and myself, let me apologise if this has seemed accusatory and unwelcoming. It is unfortunate that such co-incidences happen and need to be investigated, but I would say that it is better for you in the long term that these accusations can be dismissed before they get out of hand.
I will pass this information on to Lcnj, with the strong recommendation that he refrain from calling you Jaber and interact with you in good faith as a new, independent editor. I understand you frustration about Lcnj communications with you. His messages to you did not adhere to WP:BITE, but its also worth remembering that not all editors have the same (excellent) English as you do, and often can come across as curt, accusing or patronising without meaning to. Similarly, I appreciate that your reference to www.justfuckinggoogleit.com may have been in jest, but the page does say "Someone thinks you are an idiot because you were too stupid to check Google before asking a question", and thus you are commenting on the editor not the content in violation of WP:NPA. To be a successful Wikipedian, you have to have a thick skin (to try to ignore the personal attacks of others) and also to do you best to avoid retaliating in any way, even if in jest.
Lcnj clearly got off to a bad start with you because he thought you were someone else, and that was unfortunate, but I would ask that you give him the chance to now accept you are not Jaber. Take this as an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and try and work together, focus on the content, work within WP:POLICY and avoid commenting on each other's motivation.
Once again, i'm sorry for this somewhat unwelcoming introduction to Wikipedia. I do hope you continue to editor with us and if I can be of further assistance, please do ask. Rockpocket 18:33, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrongfully blocked for use of overlapping IPs?[edit]

checkY

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Autoblock of 72.14.192.14 lifted or expired. You may wish to read up on autoblocks to avoid confusion if this happens again (as the name implies, they're not manually set). In any case, let us know if you have any further problems. Sorry for the trouble!

Archiving[edit]

Hi Jix. I archive manually, following the cut 'n paste process at WP:ARCHIVE. However, you can get also bot to do it for you, see here. Rockpocket 18:01, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
