Hi Jron, in response to your question, all the marble in the foyer comes from overseas. The gray/green marble in the collums is Italian (Chippolino?) the pink marble comes from Portugal, the white marble in the foyer floor is also Italian and the black Limestone on the floor with the geometric design is from Belgium. Congratulations on the FP! Looks like they were waiting for me, so I'm glad I was able to swing the vote. Looks like you'll need to update your list of FPs on your user page. Keep up the great contributions! Matt Deres 23:07, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again. Yes, with Debivort's 'weak' support it was sort of in a hazy position as to concensus, but your vote tipped the balance. I haven't actually uploaded any pics for quite a while, but have a load from the trip I just got back from which will supplement a lot of articles when I get the time to put them up. Could be a couple of more potential candidates in there. --jjron 14:40, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Jeez, makes you wonder... What are these people doing with their lives; surely a lot of them must have bots set up running under their names or something. How could you possibly do over 160,000 meaningful edits? And he's only been on since 2004. And you know what - out of the top 10, I've only seen two around, and I'm pretty sure at least one of those two, Can't sleep, clown will eat me, runs bots under his name. --jjron 07:21, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

I've already explained my rationale on the talk page for removing the overly long treatment of Australian government edits, which went on far longer than the treatment of any other organization. It was a textbook example of WP:UNDUE, and I even quoted the relevant section of the policy. Frankly, I think the article is headed for endless edit wars as partisans slam various organizations they don't like. I've tried to prevent this, but it looks like a losing cause. So I'm not going to edit the article any more. There are better ways to spend time on Wikipedia. Casey Abell 13:55, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Ensay is not Gaelic for Jesus

I have removed the claim that "Ensay" is Gaelic for Jesus. This is plain wrong. The island's name is Norse in origin. The only reason I can think of for this confusion is that someone muddled "Easaigh" with "Iosa", which is the real Gaelic for Jesus. --MacRusgail 15:20, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I'll have to tell Gardy there's an error in his book, cos that was the source for this. --jjron 12:17, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

About kaaba

You're welcome. You deserved it. Pictures of the kaaba are rare, because the Salafi ideology that flourishes in Saudi Arabia is against photography considering it to be forbidden. If you are caught taking photos, the guards snatch away your camera and break it right in front of your eyes. If you have a camera hone you can always wiggle out.

Thanks again for the help. Muhammad Mahdi Karim 12:53, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your note about this image. I think that your edits were definitely an improvement. Don't work on the hi-res version yet, though. I'll try cleaning off the screen this weekend and taking a more better scan. Camel images

Jjron, I noticed you recently made a lot of changes to Camel. On 3 September I added two images to the site and left a message on the talk page. Since I know nothing about camels, I was hoping someone would be able to do something with them. They are pictures of baby camels. I was hoping someone could look at them and see if there is something special or important in them. I was thinking the baby camels could be useful to a certain part of the article, maybe. But recently someone deleted the image gallery on the camel page, so I will provide the links to them. Image:Camels in Dubai 1.jpg and Image:Camels in Dubai 2.jpg. If this did not make sense, please go to the Camel discussion page and scroll down all the way to the bottom for the New Photos section. If you have any questions just leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Leitmanp 19:39, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Jjron, thank you very much. I saw the images and their locations, and I know that I could not have done as well as you did. I appreciate it. And as for the source of the images and the uploader: Imre Solt took the photos, not me; I (Leitmanp on Wikipedia English and LoverOfDubai on Wikimedia Commons) uploaded the images and asked for them to be added to the article. Once again, thank you!! --Leitmanp 01:28, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

                • Hello, John.
I uploaded this thing: . I retook only opened part of the cone and I took other part from your edit. So I left your name in the description. It maybe a little bit better because it is not overexposed so much as the first one, yet I doubt it will pass. Please let me know, if you would like me to add the edit to the nomination or you would not. Whatever you decide is fine with me. Thank you for the working on, nominating and supporting the image.

re: Wrestling Images

Hi, and thanks for the compliments.

As for the lack of images in wrestling articles, I'd say that most wrestling editors are simply fans and don't bring cameras to events. For the longest time, I didn't even think about using my photos in the articles.

There have been very few arguments over the number of images in articles. I know there was a discussion in the Randy Orton article over the number of them. My (unofficial) rule is that each picture should be unique and beneficial to a paticular section. I'd like to see an image of the wrestler in general (infobox), holding a title belt (for the championship section), a signature pose, and perhaps one or more highlighting various feuds.

However, it is generally agreed upon that an image, even of low quality, is better than no image at all, as long as it's free use.

Images are ordinary because that's all we got. Lighting is always an issue. It might be hard to get an image of a wrestler in motion due to the lighting, which is why most images are of them simply standing still.

I'll admit that I'm a bit protective of my images. If I see it replaced, I'm tempted to revert it. At the same time, overall quality is more important than personal opinion. One work around is to move the current infobox image down into the article, perhaps to highlight an era of his caree, and insert your image into the infobox. There's no harm in trying.

I'd imagine the issues with images taken at WWE events are the same as at other sporting events. And thus far, no one has minded. One day, they might, but until then, you just can't worry about it.

If you nominate a wrestling picture, of course you should let us know. We have big egos over there, as evident by our home page. If one gets through, we'll promote it like crazy.

Anyway, I hope that helps. Nice to talk to ya. Mshake3 18:04, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Feel free to add any image you want to any article, if you feel it makes sense and adds substance to the article. Also, since you have a better idea of what is needed for a featured picture, perhaps you can nominate one of mine that you feel could pass. Mshake3 19:36, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Here's a list of articles that need a photo. It's a good place to start adding images. Mshake3 06:09, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Triple H

Triple H talking to the crowd. Or Triple H telling off the crowd

Hey do you think you can crop and replace the last image from Image:Triple H Entrance Sequence Melbourne 10.11.2007.jpg for the infobox image, since the original is not all that great. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:45, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry about people coming after you, cause they won't do anything to you. Mshake knows a lot about this. Besides, we look for images that best fit the article and that image (the last one) might help out than the original infobox. And everyone in the project would be happy with your image, as we are with Mshake's. Hope you could help. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I'll be looking forward to your images. Honestly, I'm not familiar with Donco. But, I've seen the the sequence shot you have, its impressive by the way, but some people might oppose the shots and remove it. For one concern would be that it takes up the section of the article, but who knows, they might keep it as to illustrating Triple H's sig. pose. The other image you uploaded is very good, that I have added it to my userpage and might add it to the article. And if you do have time, please upload any images that could help in the project, it would be very appreciated. P.S. Do you happen to have any HBK images? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Please do so, it would be very appreciated on the wrestling articles. I was hoping you would have some HBK images (not that the images in the article don't work, but to add one more). I do have a question, on the Triple H image you gave a description in which the tag match involved Jeff Hardy against Umaga and Orton, here goes, did you take any images of say Orton doing a wrestling move? Just for the thought in his article. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:57, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure if it would work in the Triple H's article, but I think it might work at the Face or Heel article. Like at the caption I left by the image. But I'm not trying to wrong your images, I mean your images are your images, but I'm just giving a suggestion. Let me ask you, how many images of Triple H do you have? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 02:15, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Whatever images you have, we might make it work. Was there any other match besides the tag team of Triple H and Hardy vs Umaga and Orton, that you did take pictures? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:43, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
From the top of my head, I would say Jeff Hardy or Mr. Kennedy. I understand you're quite busy, no pressure. Can't wait to see your work unfold, though. Question, I noticed that you left a message in the wrestling talk page, about your nomination on your Triple H image, here goes, can anyone support the image or do you have to be a member of the "group"? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 03:00, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Your claim of possible sockpuppetry in FPC contributions

I justed wanted to clear something up. Yes, I know that in the Leopard Tortoise candidate voting, I said Oppose with the reasoning "It looks like an average snapshot to me.", and that the user Tenio also opposed with pretty much the exact same reason. I want to let you know that Tenio is not a sockpuppet of mine, and here is some information on why I said "oppose".

User:Muhammad Mahdi Karim sent me a message after seeing my vote, asking me what I meant by "average shot". I wrote back with this:

"This is what i mean by an 'average shot'. I am a photographer, and I don't really find anything in the photo that would make it anything special from many others. The use of flash rid the turtle of any contrast and washed out the colors while created dark shadows under the shell. The composition is pretty average, all I can say about it is that you centered the turtle. It looks like you just relied on the auto settings on the camera and got lucky. All in all, it's a photo anyone could have taken."

It's also on his talk page. I don't have any personal grudge against Muhammed Mahdi Karim and Tenino's vote and reason is only coincidence.

Also on another note, I took bit of offense at your comment in the FPC when you said "It doesn't mean their votes don't count, just that they need to be treated with caution until they 'prove' themselves. -", because you are implying that my vote for some reason should carry less weight than an 'established' user's vote. I'm sorry if I haven't been editing wikipedia for too long, but I have been doing photography much longer than I have been contributing to wikipedia, and I have familiarized myself with the standards of wikipedia's Featured Pictures. I'm sure you and I can agree that is more than what can be said about some others who vote or try to contribute in the FPC. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lipton sale (talkcontribs) 04:37, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

The page is funny but is clearly vandalism. Can you delete it? I don't know how to. But can we place it in some kind of humouress vandalism page? Thanks. -76.188.26.92 (talk) 07:34, 9 December 2007 (UTC) (How do you pronounce your name?)

Sorry, Administrators can delete pages (not sure if all can, but it's an Admin thing) - I'm not an Admin so can't do so. Looks like MaxSem has deleted it now anyway.
My 'name' is my initials, so most correctly you say each letter, i.e., J. J. R. O. N., but most people, when saying it out loud, just say it as J. J. Ron cause it's easier. BTW, can I suggest you create an account and edit using that. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 13:37, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Sundogs photo

Hi Jjron,

I like your edit of my photo—you can definitely see the details much better versus the original. I still would feel odd nominating the photo myself, but if you're willing to nominate it, that'd be great! Thank very much you for your help.

Axda0002 (talk) 16:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I can definitely see what you mean about waiting to nominate until the astronomy photos are out of the queue—that is a good call. As for criticism, I will welcome it openly. The quality was the best I could get at the time with my then 3 year old 2.1MP Powershot, but the phenomenon was just so striking and I think the photo really does do it justice. Thanks again for your support, and thank you for your (future) nomination! :) Axda0002 (talk) 16:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Wow, Jjron, the photo seems to be getting a lot of support in a relatively short amount of time. Let's hope it keeps up! Axda0002 (talk) 15:52, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Alright, a featured picture! Thank you for all your help and your nomination, Jjron—it means a ton to me. Axda0002 (talk) 18:05, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Top of page link

Hi Jjron,
Martin made wrote a bit of code for me in my monobook.js so that I've now got a Top of Page link at the bottom of the side bar (very useful for long pages like FPC). Let me know if you want it too - note it only works in FF (not sure about IE 7 tho) --Fir0002 22:05, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah of course it migrates! Fat lot of good a top of page link would be if you had to scroll to the top to use it! :) I've copied the code into your monobook so hopefully it's working for you. To edit (eg change how far it appears from the bottom) or remove it go to User:Jjron/monobook.js. To get rid of it simply delete all the code. Dunno what's with your sig - to change it go to Special:Preferences and edit the "Signature" field. --Fir0002 10:00, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
On a different note I just thought of the Vicphysics photo contest and was going to place a vote (yeah I forgot about it for a bit) and guess who's been chosen to judge? Prof Gale Spring - it's a small world isn't it! --Fir0002 10:07, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Watermarks

I noticed your comment about some wikipedia photographers have watermarks in their images. I suggest to point them to the following page: [1]. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:26, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

No problem. We don't see this very much now, but every now and then one pops up. --jjron (talk) 05:47, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Ah, that is good news. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:50, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Bob Holly

Yeah, its a better image than the current one. Go ahead and replace it. Man, did you take a lot of pictures of Kennedy. Are there anymore images that you gave locked in a safe, that you would like to share? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:39, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Alright. Any photos you have, you know the "group" would be grateful. Whom did you take pics. of in 2002? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:55, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Nice list. If you think they work, then please upload them. I know, unbelievable. But, digital cameras didn't exist in the 1990s. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 01:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I wasn't even born yet, lucky you. I'm gonna follow in your foot steps. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 01:45, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 08:53, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Photo of Arctic

Hi, thanks for reviewing the featured picture nomination that I submitted. I never nominated a picture before. Could you please tell me whether the original NASA picture has enough pixels, and if so can it be uploaded to Wikipedia/Wikimedia without losing the pixels? The original NASA picture is here. Thanks.Ferrylodge (talk) 16:25, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Just thought I'd mention (if you weren't aware) that someone at NASA has kindly responded regarding the Arctic shrinkage pic. See here. Maybe you could respond to him? Thanks, and Happy New Year.Ferrylodge (talk) 19:10, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

I saw your comments there and have a couple of questions.
I understand that established users have more credibility. But shouldn't the comment have stood or fallen on its merits? "Womans" is not a word, no matter whether the user who points it out is registered or noob. Not a matter of opinion, but fact. Check the dictionary. Incidentally, the archived not-promoted picture is still incorrect. It says "womens" without the needed apostrophe.
I looked at the FPC criteria as you suggested. They say an article should have a "good caption". Is a caption with a non-existent word a good caption? They don't say that grammar errors are not grounds for oppose, and this is more than a "grammar error", it's a non-existent word. Also, the vote didn't say "Oppose the picture as a FP". It said "Oppose caption". An alert that the caption needs to be changed regardless of the quality of the picture. Wouldn't it embarrass Wikipedia to make this a Featured Picture, or Picture of the Day, and have the world see that the "best" pictures of an "encyclopedia" have elementary language errors? 24.110.24.220 (currently at a different IP) 06:37, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your questions - I will answer here since you don't have an account with your own talkpage (and as you can see above, your IP address can easily change).
  • Yes, the comment can stand or fall on its own merits - that's why I crossed out the vote, not the comment (if you read the top of the FPC page you will see where it says votes of anonymous IPs are disregarded).
  • Have you checked the image in situ, i.e., in its article? As long as the caption is correct there, then that is what really matters (and if you have checked you would see that the caption is indeed correct there). The image description on the image's page should also be correct (if you care to check that you will see that that says "womans", i.e., the error there should be corrected). If there is an error in the FPC archive, that doesn't really matter (who is going through there to check?), but it can be easily corrected.
  • I actually agree with you that the caption should be correct in all facets, i.e., accurate, with correct grammar, spelling, etc. Thank you for your English lessons nonetheless (however I do find that I have pretty firm grasp of the language without them). The point however is that fixing a caption is not an issue - hit 'edit', change womans to women's and hit 'save'; the thing about the Wiki is that anyone can make changes, it does not have to be the person who uploaded the image, nominated, or whatever. Do this and the error is fixed - you are quite welcome to do that even as an anonymous IP, but as soon as it is done you will realise that your complaint is no longer relevant. That's why it's not a good reason for an oppose.
Incidentally, you are correct that womans is not a word, however woman's is - my point being that you are making a big issue out of what was probably a minor grammatical niggle (the nominator I believe is only about 16yo and undoubtedly still coming to grips with all the nuances of the language; help him to improve this, don't condemn him immediately for it).
  • I realise your vote said Oppose caption. That's fine, but not a valid oppose, i.e., you cannot just oppose parts of a nomination. Ultimately the 'vote' on FPC is a Support or Oppose of the image as a whole. You may oppose the image due to the caption, just as you can oppose for many other single reasons, but you can't just oppose the caption (this is not a criticism of you, that's just the way things are done on FPC to keep it simpler). As I said above, the caption is easily fixed (especially when it's just a minor error like this), so opposing the picture just based on the caption is generally not a strong reason, but nonetheless can be done. In a case like that where you want to alert others to an error you can make a Comment (e.g., caption needs to be corrected, 'womans' is not a word), or ask a Question (e.g., shouldn't the caption say 'women's'?), that is if you don't want to simply Oppose completely, or fix the error yourself.
  • Re your comments on FP and POTD. Don't worry about this error carrying over. The FP pages themselves do not contain the full captions; however the description on the image page should be correct. When the FP is going to become POTD the captions are rewritten and expanded by a highly competent user, so your fears about it going on wide display with this error should usually be ironed out long before that happens.
I hope this makes some sense to you. Please create yourself an account if you would like to contribute to FPC or feel you can help out elsewhere on Wikipedia (it's free and easy to do so). Cheers, --jjron (talk) 07:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
