Tom Waits genre

Hi, I am inviting past editors of the Tom Waits article to contribute to the discussion at Talk:Tom_Waits#Genres. I am in dispute with User:TheOldJacobite, who has reverted even my sourced changes and ignored my appeals to discuss the issue. Please express your opinion on the issue if it interests you.--MASHAUNIX 18:04, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

John Marincola

Hi, Jmcgnh, thanks for your review. I work on Portuguese Wikipedia, and we don't have this system for reviewing new pages there, so this is a bit new to me. How does it work now? I mean, how do I know it's ok for moving? I can't see the code to remove the no-source box, how can I do that? Greetings, Domusaurea (talk) 01:41, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Domusaurea: Hi, I'm guessing you were notified of my "New Page Patrol" review of User:Domusaurea/sandbox/John Marincola. I'm afraid there's a bit of misunderstanding about this: NPP is called "review", and when we are reviewing new pages in articlespace, it really is a check on whether the newly created page can remain in article space. When patrolling new pages in userspace, it's still called "review", but it's a check against a slightly different standard - I'm just checking for a few kinds of violations of userpage policies. All sorts of content is allowed in a userspace draft that would not be allowed to remain in an article or draft-space draft.
On a different meaning of "review", there is Articles for Creation, which is where drafts are reviewed and either accepted into articlespace or declined, with reasons indicating why it is not yet ready for acceptance. If I had been doing this second kind of review, you'd have been left with no doubts about whether the article was ready for moving.
I've removed the "no references" tag and given you a "submit" button. Don't submit it yet. The references you have are not sufficient for passing WP:NPROF, so the draft would just get declined. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:38, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

19:50:30, 13 October 2017 review of submission by LRCMG95

I am requesting a rereview because JMIAH is a notable Christian hiphop artist. in our industry there is not to much coverage. An example is this Artist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HillaryJane they are not that notable yet they have a page on wikipedia. JMIAH has been on national television several times which is one of the notable requirements.

LRCMG95: Another AfC reviewer has already given you your re-review. Comparing with other weak articles does not help. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:38, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Page translation help

Andres contreras I'm delighted to hear that I was able to help. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 19:26, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Jim,

Thanks for responding to my request for help with the Blick Art Materials logo. I found on the Commons that logos or images that are block letters or geometric shapes (as Blick's new black-and-white logo is) meet public domain criteria. I vaguely remembered one other logo I had uploaded for another article was deleted from Wikipedia and moved to Commons for that reason. I tried uploading the new logo on the Commons just now, but the upload was rejected because I had previously uploaded to Wikipedia. So I've requested a G-7 speedy delete on that Wikipedia file page. Then I deleted the image from Blick Art Materials, and will replace the logo as soon as the Wikipedia image is deleted. Anyway, I appreciate very much your responsiveness. One reason I enjoy contributing to Wikipedia is crossing paths with kind editors like you. Best, Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 09:47, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Review of sand box page

Hi Jmcgnh.

Just curious. Why did you bother to review User:Aoziwe/sandbox/self edit. It is only a trial example, and might go nowhere. (If it goes nowhere I would subst: any tranclusions.) Aoziwe (talk) 09:51, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

@Aoziwe: The term "review" is a confusing misnomer, but it is perhaps better understood that "patrol". Every new page on WP goes on a list to be checked for violations of policy; for more information see WP:NPP. I spend a little of my time reviewing or patrolling new pages in userspace. Many pages, such as the one you are asking about, require no action other than marking them as reviewed. For other pages, I issue warnings, or notify admins, or answer questions - whatever is appropriate. This activity is rather different from reviews at Articles for creation or the more substantive reviews for "good article" or "featured article" status. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 13:34, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
