Software Used to Create SVGs

[edit]

No, I’m using a set of programs I’ve written in Java, adding new pieces when necessary. The program(s) is using publicly available data (orbits, colour indices etc) and plotting diagrams (on my screen) using so called standard Java2D. I arrange the diagram (rotation in 3D, position of labels etc) on my screen (another piece of Java) andshoot the image (output the SVG file). The Java2D to SVG transformation is done by my own (poor) bridge.

There is however, so called Batik from apache [1], open source which can be used as the ‘bridge’ from Java to SVG. I’ve never used it, so I have no opinion. Once in SVG it can be transformed using XSLT if necessary but I’m doing it only occasionally. Wiki server is transforming (a limited subset!) SVG to PNG so the benefits of SVG are almost lost.
