Monobook.js
[edit]Why thank you for finding those bugs (and having patches, too!) I would be delighted if you would make the changes. I suspect you can't edit my copy, so just copy the whole mess into a subpage of yours, make the changes, then ping me, and I'll import them into mine. Thanks again! Template:Mormon_jew
[edit]Looking at a new article called Groups Exiled from Judaism, and not quite sure what to make of it, I was shocked to see that the well-used Template:Jews and Judaism sidebar has now been "taken-over" by a pro-Mormon user and a new similar-looking Template:Mormon_jew is now being utilised. This Mormon template plagiarises and makes confusing use of the original Template:Jews and Judaism sidebar. The Mormon template must be radically changed ASAP. Your attention is needed. Perhaps we should follow official channels too. Thank you. IZAK 16:51, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Whitman Middle School
[edit]Hey... I was just about to add the exact same comment you left on that anonymous user's page about the Whitman Middle School article for deletion. While I wish someone hadn't beat me to it, it's nice to know there are other people who know how to gently correct new users! --mdd4696 03:10, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
AFD helper
[edit]Nice script. I'm not so keen about the opening in a new window, because I usually keep a second tab open in Firefox to do my editing, but otherwise it seems to work great and it does make the AFD voting process much quicker. --howcheng [ talk • contribs • web ] 07:20, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, I had a thought; what if you had it so that if the AFD nom were in its own page (i.e., not viewing the entire log, but just the one for a single article), it didn't open in a new window? --howcheng [ talk • contribs • web ] 07:23, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- By in its own page, do you mean that I provide a frame that is consistently used, or do you mean that I just always use the same target, so it'll pop-up the first time and change the same page for future edits? I use Opera, so once it opens up, I just hit the 1 key and it moves back to the nominations listing, and I can make sure my vote was posted correctly later. Maybe this discussion should continue on the script's talk page. jnothman talk 09:31, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Excellent idea; it definitely speeds things up. PJM 12:07, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
This makes voting much faster. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes the AFD page hangs as the Vote links are inserted. Also, it can be touchy if you click in one of the textboxes before it saves the page. I will probably make a copy of it to tweak for myself, but it's a good starting point. Thanks! --mdd4696 21:29, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for letting me know about the script. As I am a complete nincompoop when it comes to technical stuff, I have no idea how to use. However, since I use tabbed browsing in Firefox, AfD and other similar things are still pretty streamlined. Thanks for the offer! --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 02:06, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I have no idea what moonbook is? --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 02:20, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
- It's the default skin, with customisations available at eg. User:Jnothman/Nov 2005/monobook.js and User:Jnothman/Nov 2005/monobook.css. BTW Jnothman you should join WP:US (a very deceptive title, I assure you!) - I'll have to try out your AFD helper, but how compatible is it with other scripts? Alphax τεχ 00:17, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- Additionally, the idea that you can just "vote the same way for 20 things in a row" is bad. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING THAT AFD IS BROKEN. Alphax τεχ 03:50, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Afd Nomination Helper
[edit]Hi, I've tried that on Blannoying and Erustication and it worked! Given the difficulty of what you're doing, I think works very well. It feels a little sensitive with windows popping into existence etc and I'll need to get some experience with using it to comment further, but well done, that was very quick and it's potentially very useful. Dlyons493 Talk 20:54, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- PS There may be some issue with the Afd Template appearing on the page? It didn't seem to appear intially on Blannoying and I purged the cache thinking that might be the reason. It does appear there now but still doesn't on Erustication despite purging again. Not sure what's happening here.
I noticed that you were removing some vandalism...
[edit]I also notice that you know a lot of languages and programming langauges. I was wondering if you wanted to join Wikipedia:Counter_Vandalism_Unit --Adam1213 Talk+ 14:50, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
well I have never seen you in the room. wikipedia-en-vandalism on irc.freenode.net but I should of checked the list.... (currently having some issues relating to the room so i am cant be in it now) --Adam1213 Talk+ 14:58, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit]No, I have not been watching it, but I'm going to start watching it and see what you wrote. thanks for the reminder! --StevenL 02:51, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Re: Delete per nom
[edit]Ah yes. I wrote one of them long ago, but decided it would be stupid to use it; it's only slightly less useful than your AFD helper. The deletion policy is about gathering consensus through reasoned discussion; just because something seems like a good idea, it doesn't mean that it actually is. I'll give it a go to see exactly what it does, but I'm pretty certain it's not a good thing. Cheers, Alphax τεχ 14:47, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Christianity and Jewish Prohecy
[edit]yeah, that is point of view so I'll change it.... but why don't you want any excerpts from the Bible? to have a few is a good Idea to show the actual evidence. Scifiintel 04:49, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

- No problem! Happens to all of us. :) And on another topic, I hope you didn't forget about Schopf & Weiss - you started the AfD process, but never finished it...let me know if you need any help. Owen× ☎ 04:05, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
Moving articles on afd
[edit]If you move an article that's on afd, please make sure that it still points at the discussion instead of a redlink. You can do this either by making a redirect (as I've done at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BBW art), or by editing the link in the afd notice. —Cryptic (talk) 11:55, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
I think I kinda know you...
[edit]Hey Joel, my name's Brianna. I think we did the HSC in the same year and I seem to remember corresponding with you at the time re: the site you were running for it. Even funnier, today I was flipping through my scrapbook of newspaper clippings, and I have one from the SMH with a picture of you, about this website (hscstuff.cjb.net). Am I bringing back memories yet? :) Anyway... I don't really have anything to say besides, small world, huh? :) pfctdayelise 03:45, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- After flicking through the scrapbook, I think something clicked when I saw your vote on Say Nothing's AfD. Not stalking, I promise. :) I haven't kept in touch with anyone, although I see my joke maths paper is carrying on a life of its own. That's nice for it, I think.
- It's amazing the number of people on WP who are uni students or graduates. There's some connection there, I think, between the thirst for knowledge and the desire to set it free. ... Yeah, I have an exam on Tuesday. :) pfctdayelise 01:35, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
Re: Links
[edit]Thanks! Is there anyway to add to the navigation? Also, what about removing some links, if necessary? Thanks again. Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 14:03, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- P.S. I've adding the addLI link and the AddToolbar link and messed with it some bit, and I can't get it to work even after clearing my cache. Can you take a look at my monobook and help me out? Thanks a lot. Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 14:09, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! (Monobooks are in JavaScript, right? Pity they aren't in Java...) Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 14:53, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- Boy, do I feel stupid for trying to change the parameters of a function. :-) I presume the main method in JavaScript acts similar to the main in Java? Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 14:56, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm actually in my second year of Java, but what I meant was that it was pity I wouldn't be able to help, since it was in JavaScript. True, JavaScript is more appropriate for monobooks. I'll go back to programming Java apps now... (annoying @!* flight database system won't work...) :-) By the way, would it be possible at all for Java to be used on the internet? Don't some GUIS still use Java? Thanks again for all your help; I'll go add it to the monobook now. Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 15:01, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks again. However, can you review my monobook once again? I must be missing something... Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 15:13, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks; it works! Good night. Flcelloguy ( A note? ) 15:24, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Loopwords
[edit]Thanks. I liked most of those as well. A curious one is GNAT > TANG, which are also reverses of each other. Cheers JackofOz 06:15, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Re: stuff
[edit]Alrighty then, first of all: the AFD helper is actually better than I expected; it wasn't immediately clear that a reason was asked for. You could probably document it a bit better and make all of the steps in auto-afding a bit better (or use the existing auto-afd code), but overall it's not as brainless as I thought it might be. So my apologies for biting your head off; I had initially thought that it would just make it faster to vote "d, nn.". Maybe if you could force a comment and make it longer than say, 10 characters?
Anyway, about helpdesk-l:
- Replies are currently sent to the list and cc-d to the posters, since most of them aren't subscribed;
- List admins are currently moderating everything;
- Ask helpdesk-l-owner at wikimedia dot org for any further queries.
Glad you're interested, Alphax τεχ 07:00, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
- When in doubt, use one of these (or something from OTRS, linked from there)... if in doubt, make something up! Alphax τεχ 12:27, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
afd
[edit]Re: Oberin. I don't if this is the result of your AfD script discussed above, but when a pre-existing AfD debate exists, you should give the new one a different name. In any case, I tagged it for speedy delete as a g4 (already deleted). Thanks. Chick Bowen 16:29, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Helpdesk
[edit]I noticed that you were working the queue, so I stopped for a bit -- it does get confusing trying to go through the messages especially when more than one person is responding at the same time. I guess two answers is better than none :) Any ideas on a better system for working through messages? With the Helpdesk its not so bad since edit conflicts will alert you when someone is answering the same query, but I'm not sure how we'd work out something similar for the email list. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 04:30, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
