Hey, I uploaded this file because I'm developing a new page and I wanted to see how it would look like before submitting the page for revision João Cardielos (talk) 16:52, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The file fails WP:NFCC#7 because it is not used in any articles. It is used in draft space. Non-free files should be used in articles, not user pages, drafts, or anything else except articles. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 17:23, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, hopefully I'll be able to submit the draft before the image gets deleted, but will I be able to upload the image again if needed? João Cardielos (talk) 19:32, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can if it is used in an article. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 19:44, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I've read carefully all the non-free content policy and I understand why this happened. I never intended to abuse of wikipedia guidelines. I'm sorry this happened and I promise it won't happen again. Please consider unblocking me. I would love to keep editing and expanding wikipedia.

Decline reason:

Anyone can say they understand our policies. If you don't demonstrate that you understand the policy, we have no idea whether you'll violate it again in the future. One way you could do this is to explain what went wrong and what you'll do in the future. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:28, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Your block

[edit]

Since you emailed me, I won’t handle your unblock request, but I’ll give you some advice. It looks like what happened was:

  1. You uploaded the image
  2. You added it to your sandbox
  3. The image was removed from your sandbox
  4. You added it back, rather than discussing

You were blocked for # 4. Your actions in # 1 and 2 were (seemingly) honest mistakes. But when the image was removed from the sandbox it was your responsibility to discuss the matter and ask for clarification, not just add it back. Wikiacc () 12:43, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your prompt response and for providing clarity on what led to my block. I understand now that my actions, particularly in reinstating the image without discussion, were not in line with Wikipedia's policies. I genuinely thought it was an acceptable practice to add it back to my sandbox.
I appreciate your advice on discussing such matters rather than simply reinstating content. As a newcomer to editing I'm still learning, and I realize now the importance of seeking clarification when something is removed.
I will now search for the appropriate channels and procedures for initiating such discussions in the future. I want to ensure that I contribute positively and adhere to Wikipedia's guidelines.
Additionally, I would like to know if there are any further steps I can take to facilitate the unblocking process.
Thank you once again for your assistance. João Cardielos (talk) 14:38, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Wikiacc:,
I submitted a new unblock request following your guidance a couple of weeks ago, but it hasn't been reviewed yet. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to improve my situation, as my previous requests were reviewed quite quickly. Any advice you could provide would be great. Thank you! João Cardielos (talk) 16:49, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree this review is taking a while. I am not sure why that is. Unblock reviews might just be backed up right now. I can't think of anything additional you can do right now -- sorry I can't be more helpful. Wikiacc () 01:09, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, thank you for your answer and support. João Cardielos (talk) 09:27, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Wikiacc:,
Sorry to bother you again, but another 10 days have passed and I still haven't seen any signs of closure. Would it be a good idea to reach out to other admins or try the Unblock Ticket Request System?
Thank you! João Cardielos (talk) 08:58, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
UTRS is unlikely to be helpful in your case (at least according to WP:AAB). @JJMC89 and NinjaRobotPirate: ping to see if you're willing to weigh in. Wikiacc () 00:51, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Wikiacc: @JJMC89 and NinjaRobotPirate:,
I would really appreciate any feedback you could provide. I understand you might not be willing to revoke a decision, but please let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Thank you!

Request reason:

Dear Admin, I’m writing this unblock request in hope I’ll be unblocked from editing wikipedia.

I was blocked because of a non-free use violation. What happened was that I was drafting my first article in my sandbox and I was looking for other properly written and similar Wikipedia articles, and they all had images. For that reason I asked the copyright owners of the logo of the company I was drafting about to give me permission to upload it to wikipedia, which they did. Therefore I uploaded the image as a non-free use content and naively included it in my sandbox to see how the draft would look like once it would be moved into an article. A couple days later the image was declared as an orphaned non-free image and was removed from my sandbox.

As the notification said that the image could only be used as a claim of fair use I thought what I was doing would fall into that category. The notification also claimed that I could add it back if I thought it would be useful, which I actually thought was true.

So the image was removed under the WP:NFCC#7 which I was aware because User:TheGreatestLuvofAll had explained it to me in my talk page. He also said “Non-free files should be used in articles, not user pages, drafts, or anything else except articles.”. But I once again thought it could be considered fair use so my first mistake was not exploring the guidelines any further and not discussing it more. Then my major error was adding the image back which now I’ve realized I was violating WP:NFCC#9.

I’m now aware that whenever I get to a similar situation in the future where I realize I might not know the proper way to act accordingly the wikipedia policies, I will find the proper way to address the issue and discuss it until I have fully understood what I needed to do and learn as User:Wikiacc taught me.

I believe a further step that could improve wikipedia and minimize blocks for the same reason could be a notification about WP:NFCC#9 when an image is removed from non articles, I was also not aware I could have been blocked indefinitely for my acts which would have made me search for clarification before making this mistake. So it would be good to have an explanation of the problem, the consequences of not following it and a possible solution for what editors in good faith might be trying to do.

I know the wikipedia guidelines are strict and must be followed, I also am aware that I don’t know all of the rules, and I hope you understand that I’ve been an editor for less than 20 days. I’m a fan of the wikipedia organization and I respect It deeply. I’m in wikipedia because I’ve been an avid user since I remember, and there were many time I thought I could clarify, expand or include new articles (mainly regarding music), so that’s why I decided to start editing recently.

I also never intended to abuse the wikipedia guidelines or acted in bad faith or intended to disrupt and damage any type of knowledge. If this reason does not fit your unblocking criteria, I would like to request a clearer explanation of what do I have to learn in order to become a better editor, and hopefully be unblocked in the future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by João Cardielos (talkcontribs) 11:06, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

@JJMC89 and NinjaRobotPirate: Checking again. Do you have any objections to an unblock being approved for this user? Since you were pinged a week ago, I'm assuming silence equals no objections? —C.Fred (talk) 12:13, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you're convinced, that's good enough for me. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 18:04, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Myrealnamm. I noticed that you recently removed content from Draft:Discotexas without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 15:24, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey user:Myrealnamm thank you very much for restoring that info, I was drafting that article in my sandbox and moved it to the drafts and got scared that the "submit draft for revision" button disappeared. I already found how to submit it for revision from the draft space, but I want to keep working on the article first. Do you think It is better to work directly on the draft page, or in my sandbox and once I finish move it again to the draft? If possible I also would like to know from which place is better to submit it for revision. Asdi12 17:02, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@João Cardielos No worries! The template was removed by a bot because it does not make sense for a draft. Personally, I prefer writing drafts in the actual draftspace. You could move all your work from your user sandbox to the draft, where other people can also help you.
For both ways, you can submit them into an article using the wizard. Happy editing! Cheers, Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 18:41, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
