Sirius in fiction - minor issue with the closing

[edit]

There seems to be some (extremely minor) controversy over what the notice in the talk page of Sirius In Fiction should read, with "Keep by default" being changed to "No consensus" to " Keep" to "no consensus" again. As the admin who closed the afd I thought you should know in case you have some opinions on this. Artw 03:50, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page Deletion

[edit]

I am an entertainer and there is a page on wikipedia made about me. However I am trying to delete the portions that are incorrect and I am not able to do so. Is there some sort or actions that I need to take? I had just contacted my attorney and he advised me to file a police report against the person or persons that are running that particular page. My nephew had tried to go in and edit portions of the page and he was "BANNED" and I am now happy about that. I am not using my real name as my user name because I had tried to log into Wikipedia with my correct name and It wouldn't let me. If I am not allowed to edit a page written about me and not by me I will have to take legal actions. Please get back to me asap! I think you know who this is and I think you know my e mail address as well. I look forward to talking with you. Cork Street deletion review

[edit]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Cork Street. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Roleplayer 22:56, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JodyB! Im not going to delete material from here but add some more! And as a administrator pls see: the user Atabek added genocide term to the article while he is marking 3 non-historical non-reliable sources (Hopkirk is a journalist, Aliev is the Azerbaijani president and the third is a political declaration by some PACE members)? Is it ok for a consensus? Thanks in advance! Andranikpasha 23:41, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JodyB, thanks for the comment at Talk:March Days. I provided the New York Times reference to 12,000 of Azerbaijanis killed. Yet, User:MarshallBagramyan, removed the quoted text and still kept the fact tag. Can you please, address this issue. I don't know why User:MarshallBagramyan and User:Andranikpasha, question the 12,000, while legitimate sources from scholar Michael Smith and the New York Times Journal are being provided. Also, can you address my request about the POV tag, it's absolutely unjustified, especially since almost none of the sources is Azerbaijani. Thanks. Atabek 01:18, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question to the editor who deleted my entry for John Ogilvie - Green party political candidate for Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

TIA —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ottawahitech (talkcontribs) 21:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article was flagged for deletion because it did not assert notability. As I recall it was a one sentence article that was not referenced at all. I can restore it to you user space and you can work on it and then move it to the mainspace. Let me know. Also please read WP:V and be sure and sign your talk page edits. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 21:05, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can see why you did this, but Wikihermit did retire, invoking his right to vanish (check the deletion log). In fact, he shouldn't have a talk page at all; he simply neglected to remove himself from the Signpost spam list, which turned his red link blue. What's the proper thing to do? — madman bum and angel 22:46, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Wikihermit

[edit]

He has retired and his talkpage was deleted. The talkpage was recreated when a bot delivered the signpost. You can delete the page if you want, since he wanted it deleted. Cheers, Lights () 22:48, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for adoption

[edit]

Hello. I am ILikePikachu. You probably either don't remember me or remember me for the comment you put on my talk page. Wknight94 gave me a choice of things. He said for me to think how I will try to regain the Wikipedia community's trust. He specificly said mentorship, which is a step away from adoption. So I now request: Will you adopt this user? 72.161.149.136 14:31, 17 September 2007 (UTC)(ILikePikachu)[reply]

Hi. I am Lassie2501 and I would hopefully like you to please adopt me. 18 September 2007 (Lassie2501) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lassie2501 (talkcontribs) 06:42, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks JodyB for your speedy response.

You asked me to read: WP:V which leads me to:

Wikipedia:Verifiability http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:JodyB#Can_you_please_explain_speedy_deletion

It is not clear to me what needs verification - Need I prove to you that John Ogilvie is the Ottawa Green Party candidate in the upcoming election? Or was it something else that you objected to?

TIA

Ottawahitech 21:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

Whoops, my mistake. See WP:V. Try that. The point is that any material on Wikipedia must be verified. You may know it is true and it may be, but it is necessary to provide a source that verifies it. In this case, I would suggest you do two things. One, add a reference that supports his selection as a candidate by the party and second, add some information about him beyond his candidacy such as his past political work or something. Be sure and add the sourcing. You might also have a look at WP:N and WP:RS. WP:CITE is helpful in learning how to add the citations for the sources. It may seem a little clunky at first but it will help produce solid articles. Be sure and let me know how I can help. Do you want the article moved to your userspace? --JodyB yak, yak, yak 21:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know if you have a problem with those links. If you click on them they should take you to the policy and guidelines. JodyB yak, yak, yak 21:33, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about this entry in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_general_election%2C_2007#Ottawa will this serve as verification?

> Do you want the article moved to your userspace?

What is a userspace? - I just registeered with Wikipedia today and am completely overwhelmed with all the material I am supposed to read. I am sure it is explained somewhere in the text I was supposed to review, but if I read everything I will never have the time to actually contribute here :-)

Ottawahitech 21:53, 14 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

I know it may seem overwhelming to you but don't give up. It will be second nature after a while. You userspace includes your userpage and your user talk page. In addition you can create subpages under those pages to work on articles and such. Give me a minute and I will move the article to your userspace, I will come back here and leave you a link. Then I will help you develop the article and learn the policies at the same time. Deal? --JodyB yak, yak, yak 22:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I have moved the article to User:Ottawahitech/John_Ogilvie_Green_Party_of_Ontario_Canada. You will notice that I made a couple of adjustments to the article. Notice that this article still has a discussion page. Look there for further information about editing it.

Hi JodyB again,

I am still waiting for instructions on how to add the information for John Ogilvie, Green Party candidate for Carleton—Mississippi Mills in the upcoming Ontario provincial election.

As I tried to explain: I have never met John Ogilvie and everything I know about him was obtained by reading the news and looking at his web site. I volunteered to create a small entry in Wikipedia when I found out through an online discussion forum that Mr. Ogilvie was not permitted to enter information into Wikipedia by himself. I assumed that once I created a minimal entry, he will be permitted to fill in the details that you require.

I have never entered any information into Wikipedia before and I find this process very unfamiliar and time-consuming. Surely there must be a simpler way to let a political candidate who is not backed up by huge political machinery enter some basic information into Wikipedia so that the his link on : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_general_election%2C_2007#Ottawa does come up as a dead link?

Ottawahitech 22:09, 18 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitechJohn[reply]

The link is the one I sent you before. It is User:Ottawahitech/John_Ogilvie_Green_Party_of_Ontario_Canada. This article is in your user space or sandbox, it is not in the main part of Wikipedia. You have edited it before so I know you have been there. Also, check the talk page attached to the article. I actually added a link for you and suggested you look at the edit to see how it has been done. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 00:06, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

> You have edited it before so I know you have been there.

Yes I have, and I have come to the end of my knowledge of this subject.

> Also, check the talk page attached to the article.

What talk page? Which article?

> I actually added a link for you and suggested you look at the edit to see how it has been > done

See what has been done? Where?

Ottawahitech 00:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

If you went to the link above, you saw that I added the reference into the article. The talk page is the same thing as the discussion page, you will see a tab at the top of the page. It says "Discussion." From there you can discuss the specific article.

I am curious, would you tell me how old you are? --JodyB yak, yak, yak 02:05, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a rather unusual question. Why do you need to know my age? 64.253.0.99 04:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

Because, very truthfully, your questions just seem to suggest a very young person. There is nothing wrong with that but some of my answers just don't seem to be sticking. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 11:15, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To Jodyf,

I am sorry if I do not come up to your standards, I am trying though.

You have instructed me to fill in a template, and I tried in vain to explain why I cannot do so. You also insist on verification of Mr. Ogilvie's standing as a candidate in the next election.

I checked the wikipedia entries for both candidates for the major parties (Liberal and PC) and see that they did not provide sources for their material: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan_Cornell#Megan_Cornell_.28Carleton.E2.80.94Mississippi_Mills.29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norm_Sterling Yet you insist that I must verify my sources (which you then say are "weak").

Can you please let me know which sources are acceptable to Wikipedia.

Thanks,

Ottawahitech 11:58, 19 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

Go to the article which is in your userspace. Do you see the superscript number 1 at the end of the first sentence? The reference was added by me. Do you see that? --JodyB yak, yak, yak 15:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I see the number 1 - and I can also follow that link. What I cannot do however is open this text in edit mode to see what kind of code you entered to achieve this effect Ottawahitech 17:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

If you are logged in you can edit it. At the very top of the page, next to the tab that says discussion, there is one that says "edit this page." Click on that tab and you will see what I have done. It is precisely the way you edit anything else here.--JodyB yak, yak, yak 18:34, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I clicked on edit page (why are there individual edits for each section of the page except for the first one?)

I see that the text Green Party of Ontario creates a link leading to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Party_of_Ontario

Nothing happens when I click on .[1], so I am not sure what :

.[1]

is supposed to accomplish?

Ottawahitech 22:25, 19 September 2007 (UTC) ottawahitech[reply]

The introduction doesn't have its own section edit button. Use the one at the top. Clicking on the superscript 1 will take you to its reference at the bottom. Notice that the inline citation is entered beginning with the ref tag. You must enter it that way in order to work. This will automatically number your references. However, because this article is very short there is no apparent movement. The click works in the article tab, not the edit tab.

What I put there is an inline citation. It is the best and way to properly reference your material. Now, you have another link there. You add it and let me know when you are finished adding it. See WP:CITE if you need help. From now on, let's move this conversation to the talk (discussion) page of the article. Also, please don't put so many spaces in between lines. It makes what you write difficult to read and even harder to edit. Also, you can save a few clicks by not adding your name manually. just enter the four tilde's and it will sign for you. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 23:04, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--- I entered some text in all the template segments except for Early life. For some reason the external link is not working properly?

Can I move this out of my user area now? Ottawahitech 00:01, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, it is now moved back into the mainspace and can be found at John Ogilvie (Canada). You may continue to add to the page as you come across more information.--JodyB yak, yak, yak 02:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
