March 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Bernard Madoff has been reverted.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bhulu\.com\b (links: http://www.hulu.com/watch/55586/saturday-night-live-bernie-madoff).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 19:59, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Bernard Madoff do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Thank you for your contribution to Bernard Madoff, but we are trying to write an encyclopedia here, so please keep your edits factual and neutral. Our readers are looking for serious articles and will not find joke edits amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do here seriously. If you'd like to experiment with editing, use the sandbox to get started. Thank you. You are quickly bordering on refusing to get the point, which will quickly lead to getting you blocked. Newguy34 (talk) 20:15, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at User talk:Newguy34, you will be blocked from editing. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a collection of things that are funny. Newguy34 (talk) 20:32, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:19, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Jim Rutenberg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Jim Rutenberg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Newguy34 (talk) 20:39, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Nick Bunkley[edit]

A tag has been placed on Nick Bunkley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Excuse me sir[edit]

Excuse me sir, but have I done something to offend you? You have been most unpleasant to me, and there is no reason that you should delete my articles. Furthermore, you have been unwilling to respond to my comments which I have courteously left here, what have I done that offended you so? John Norrison (talk) 20:49, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

John, I know you are new to Wikipedia, so I strongly suggest that you read the welcome message placed at the top of this page. You are quickly running into trouble with:
  • Inappropriate additions to the Bernard Madoff article - I suggest you read Wiki's rules for BLPs, verifiability, and spam.
  • Creating two articles that are BLPs, but you have failed to demonstrate why they are notable
  • Reporting any user to the administrator's notice board as you did with me.
  • Wikistalking by continuing to post on my talk page.
  • Not assuming good faith by accusing me of somehow trying to harm or attack you.
My advice to you is to read the welcome message and proceed slowly, lest you find yourself blocked. Newguy34 (talk) 20:57, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Bernard Madoff. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Toddst1 (talk) 21:19, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John, you're OK. I suspected you weren't aware of the rule. Thanks for the note. Toddst1 (talk) 21:25, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You have new messages at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Mr._Newguy34. Toddst1 (talk) 21:36, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

are you gay? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.76.35.40 (talk) 22:41, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No I am not, and I find that a very odd question. John Norrison (talk) 21:42, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, John Norrison. You have new messages at Toddst1's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

OK, let me try to help[edit]

Maybe we didn't get off on the right foot, so let me give you some advice. It is bad form to remove tags from the top of articles, as you did at Jim Rutenberg. Doing so will make editors mad. Discuss it on the talk page, first, and you'll get a better response. Nobody gets everything they want at Wikipedia. We all discuss things (sometimes we discuss them alot) before we make changes. Newguy34 (talk) 22:28, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the record[edit]

Ok, so you're gay. There's no harm in admitting it. Good to know it's out in the open. Newguy34 (talk) 00:40, 14 March 2009 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.76.35.40 (talk) [reply]

Apologies[edit]

Hello John. I would like to express my apologies for the childish comments that have come from my IP address particularly targeted at you. I would have expected my son to know better. It was only by chance that a 'new messages' tab appeared when I somehow ended up on Wikipedia and discovered what has been going on. Please rest assured that there are going to be serious repercussions for this. I am quite frankly appalled that a 15 year old would resort to such pettiness. I sincerely hope you have not been offended by what's gone on here. I will be deleting all content off my 'talk page' and will speak to the admins to get any records of these edits removed. Once again, I really do apologise. 79.76.35.40 (talk) 16:30, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello John Norrison! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Nick Bunkley - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Nomination of Nick Bunkley for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Nick Bunkley is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
