West Slavic WikiProject

Great idea, I'm behind you on this, greetings! Tymek (talk) 03:30, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm watching

No problem, I'll take over, will try to get some more support, maybe I'll personally contact a few prominent Slavic editors. The Dominator (talk) 00:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I've notified Piotrus and Darwinek, might try a few more later, but I'd like to here the opinion of these two a lot. The Dominator (talk) 00:46, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Technically I'm neither, I don't actually have Canadian citizenship, but I was born in the Czech Republic and have a Czech passport, but I haven't been in the Czech Republic since I reached the age of being legible for an "občanka", but I'm going there this summer so I'll officially be a Czech citizen once I get all the paperwork sorted out. I could of course apply for Canadian citizenship and easily get it, but I'm not sure if it's possible to have dual Czech-Canadian though I think it is, I know you, as a Czech citizen, can't have dual passports though Slovakians can legally have dual passports last time I czeched. I don't really have time to read the document now, is there a key point you wanted me to read that you can highlight or did you just link it as a general zajímavost? The DominatorTalkEdits 02:21, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

It does interest me, but does it mean that under current laws I can't actually get dual citizenship? What if I have Czech citizenship and then applied for Canadian citizenship? Could I not do that? The DominatorTalkEdits 02:51, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Read the article (couldn't help editing a bit, wiki-instincts kicking in) I'll try to get through the document, but the writing style is the most obnoxious thing I've ever read, doesn't help that I haven't read anything longer than a few sentences in Czech in years. How are exams going? what courses do you have? Do you like my new signature? Just figured out how to format it. The DominatorTalkEdits 03:08, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Well the level of education in my school is bullshit. I used to attend Bluevale Collegiate Institute, a great school with intelligent teachers and awesome programs, but now I attend a school that isn't even close to having a goddamn Wikipedia article and also, wait for it... it's a Catholic school, I know, I know, but I'm transferring next year to a school that at least has some dignity. And my signature isn't that fancy, at least it doesn't have an Australian flag next to it :-) and your current code is nearly as long as mine, minus the font. The DominatorTalkEdits 03:32, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
At least it's something interesting, my entire town has one theatre and a Wal-Mart in the middle of an open field, that's about it. Can't say I've never thought about attempted murder of a teacher, though in my dreams it was successful and strangely consequenceless. Our school has about ten classrooms and two parallel hallways, then they just started piling on portables, and the school goes from grades seven through twelve, it doesn't have a football team, and our main history teacher spelled "except" wrong on the final exam four times. But ya, attempted murder's pretty bad, lol. The DominatorTalkEdits 03:46, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

You haven't missed much with Wal-Mart I can tell you that much. A friend of mine just came back from Australia, I gotta get out there sometime, is there a McDonald's on every corner like in America? 'cause my town's population is below 30, 000 and it has three McDonald's, it has no hospital but about nine churches. At least Sydney looks nice, Airdrie is literally a piece of land with randomly stacked half-built houses, then it suddenly ends and there's an open field. Are you a football or hockey fan? The DominatorTalkEdits 04:02, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Cricket? Really? At the 2006 cup I wasn't as embarrassed as disappointed as everyone here seemed to want the Czech team to win, I was considered pessimistic when I said we'd make it to the first knockout stage and lose to Brazil, in the end we didn't even make it out of the group. 2004 Euro was good though, we played the most entertaining game in the whole tournament (against Holland), I think we stand a chance in 2008. Also, what's with the short name of CR in English? Is it impossible to top "Czechia", what aboot "Checkers" or "Chess"? Blah, I don't know, Czechia sounds strange to me, but maybe it just sounds that way with an American/Canadian accent. I'm going to sleep (after finding myself asleep on the couch just ten minutes ago), it's eleven here, good night have a nice supper. The DominatorTalkEdits 04:55, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Then have fun with whatever you're doing. And it does seem strange that they used "Czech" rather than "Check" or "Chec/Chek/Chech" if they wanted to distinguish, but I guess they wanted to make it seem more "foreign", but we'll talk about this another time, see ya later. Re: recognition map

Hi there. Yes, I used a map that is available on Commons: [1]

And the map is not really complete yet. I'm pretty sure, that there are at least a few more countries with recognition problems. Barry Kent (talk) 16:19, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hungarian disputes

Hi, I noticed that you'd been making suggestions involving some of the recent naming disputes. I have created a centralized subpage to discuss some of the issues, and invite you to participate: User talk:Elonka/Hungarian-Slovakian experiment. --Elonka 09:02, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

AfD

I'm the IP commenting on the afd. did you delete the question? I think I re-posted it under this name. I thought the questions should have been clear but to be more clear I would ask you whether or not your feelings about the article would change if you were more familiar with the subject matter. Protonk (talk) 20:20, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Also, thanks for the welcome link! That was really helpful and thoughtful.  :) Protonk (talk) 03:18, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Be careful about comments list this. Warmly, NonvocalScream (talk) 00:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

"whever put them there was a moron". You might go rephrase then. Warmly, NonvocalScream (talk) 00:16, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I mean to refer to the contrib instead of the editor, maybe say... "it was a moronic edit" or "the heading size was moronic". Instead of "whoever put them there was a moron". Best, NonvocalScream (talk) 00:20, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

You wrote - "Unlabelled edits like this one could be considered vandalism. That Coat of Arms is en:intellectual property of the Czechoslovak government, regardless of where Subcarpathian Ruthenia is now found. +Hexagon1 (t) 08:47, 23 April 2008 (UTC)"

Czechoslovak government and Czechoslovakia does not exist. This is definitely not a property of the Czech government - only possible legal holder left is Ukraine. But all this does not matter any way as we talking about "PD" PUBLIC DOMAIN - which is just the opposite to the "IP", so your link is totally does not apply here. {{PD-CzechGov}} that you want to use means that it is NOT a property of the Czech government - this is absolutely correct, but usually what legally matter is the country where it is currently used. Rollback

Just a quick note to let you know I've added the rollback tool to your account. Please make sure to read through the information available and only use it for vandalism revertion. Cheers αlεxmullεr 07:09, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, not sure if you did it by accident, but you removed my text (diff here) along with Avala's the second time you blanked his block of text. If you did it by accident, that's cool. If you removed it on purpose (the text was "Wall of text hits you for 10,000. You die"), then I would prefer it if you struck it out or asked me to remove it on my talk page. Remember, there are very limited situations where it is appropriate for you to edit my text on talk pages. I may be wrong, but I feel that my text, basically a humorous response to Avala's comment, doesn't fall into that category. Thanks Protonk (talk) 06:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

  • thanks a lot! I wasn't too worried, I just am glad to hear that you didn't lump my comment in with his. Good luck with exams, mine aren't for a week or so. Protonk (talk) 15:56, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

References Challenge

After much deliberation on the Award Center Talk Page, I have decided to scrap the References Tagging Challenge. I will award barnstars according to completion of the challenge for those who signed up earlier but who haven't yet completed the challenge. How far have you gotten with this challenge so far? --SharkfaceT/C 21:11, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

The Minor Barnstar
For your efforts with the References Tagging Challenge, I, Sharkface217, hereby award you this barnstar. Good job! --SharkfaceT/C 03:08, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
You've earned this barnstar. Also, what happened at ANI? Do you happen to have an exact link? --SharkfaceT/C 03:08, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you moved the suburb of Maroubra, New South Wales to a page called Maroubra because it is unique. I suggest you reconsider this move because firstly ALL Sydney suburbs have been standardised to include the state name in the article title. Maroubra is now the only one that differs now. Secondly, Maroubra is not as unique as you think. The name is actually used in other places in Australia and around the world, although nowhere yet significant enough to warrant its own wikipedia article but it's only a matter of time. Cheers J Bar (talk) 09:01, 27 April 2008 (UTC).

OK, I wasn't aware of such a consensus, sorry. +Hexagon1 (t) 09:16, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
No worries, mate. Cheers. J Bar (talk) 21:50, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Politics template

Hello there. I appreciate the way you add a greeting on my talk page. But I wonder, what exactly is the idea of changing back the image I applied on the WikiProject Politics template? I replaced the old image of the template before because I believe it is less relevant to what the project is about.

I just read the discussion from the talk page of that project. I hope I gave enough explanation towards that. Wubzy (talk) 03:39, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Incivility

Please do not, as you did here, accuse other editors of malice. Besides being based on nothing, it isn't appreciated. Regards, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 00:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

No, sorry, my edit and summary was a response to Mcorazao's previous edit, and was civil. What tone exactly do you not appreciate? Baffling. Throwing accusations of malice is a personal attack and, obviously, assumes bad faith; so I presume you are linking WP:AGF through a sense of irony, yeah? Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 04:21, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I read the first sentence of your post and stopped there. I was responding Mcorazao, and you're just gonna have to accept that. Again, please watch your civility, and if you are gonna preach AGF, then it'd look better if you didn't make edit summaries like that, and you wouldn't get into trouble for it. PS, just read your post ... "Lol" was an error from my text-completer, so sorry about that; being offended btw should happen naturally if it's real, it shouldn't be constructed for situational convenience, which is obviously disingenuous. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 04:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Your postings on my page are gradually turning in to nonsense. Please stop. You are not faced with a choice in edit summaries between being absurdly polite and launching personal attacks. Use edit summaries as most other users use 'em ... doing neither. This is not hard to grasp, surely? Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 04:42, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Normally if you find something hard to understand you take more time, don't you? ;) I can understand if English isn't your first language or something. If that is a the problem, then just remember the rule "never call someone else's edit or edit-summary malicious". If you want humour, you might benefit from reading Wikipedia:No angry mastodons. Regards, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 04:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I've no idea where you're trying to take this now, but on your second from last post it seems you apologized. Thanks. I hope you will consider edit-summaries more carefully in future. Regards, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 05:05, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

RE: Dates

There used to be a section at WP:DATE about it. There was a whole section about not linking stand alone years, months and years with no day, or linking the day and month but not linking the year. It seems to not be there anymore. But, if you nominate an article for Good Article or Featured Article status, the reviewers usually say the same thing. I think, while it isn't a policy, it must just be there preferred way of writing.

I just found this Wikipedia:Overlinking#Dates. It says that they don't have to be linked, but some user like them linked. However, because most of the wrestling articles don't like years, and it really does contribute to overlinking in articles, they shouldn't be linked. Nikki311 15:39, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

RL award

Thank you very much for the real-life award. Being even a small part of such a situation is humbling and yet empowering...to see the positive impact we Wikipedia editors can have on real-world events. It was an amazing thing to be a part of, and I'm so thankful that no one was hurt. Dreadstar 18:39, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Lady Aleena's RfA

Hexagon1...Thank you for supporting my nomination for adminship. Through it I have become aware of a great many people who can help me in my future editing endeavors. Even though I was not promoted, your support shows that I still have something to contribute to Wikipedia, even if it is minor edits to fix spelling and grammar to working in WikiProjects to help others make great articles. If you wish to further discuss the nomination, please use its talk page. Stop by my talk page anytime, even if it is just to say hello. Have a wonderful day! - LA @ 04:37, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
