Request reason:

All statements made including the 2019 football season record, the 2019 Military Bowl result, the 2020 season record, and the current 2020 off-season with players leaving the program are all factual. "Clearly not here to build an encyclopedia" suggests no attempt at reconciling whatever issues there may have been nor explains the reason for blocking my account from making edits. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 23:01, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Decline reason:

You weren't blocked for the one edit that you successfully made. 331dot (talk) 08:14, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

If the edit itself was not the reason for being blocked, I am unclear about the reasoning. So far it has yet to be explained. Please advise, thank you @331dot JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 23:05, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You were blocked for edits you attempted to make but the edit filter blocked. 331dot (talk) 02:31, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Clearly Not Here to Build an Encyclopedia"[edit]

I would like clarification for the account block. "Clearly not here to build an encyclopedia" is a blanket statement that does not address my edit.

@Widr:

JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 23:14, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, you are here to build an encyclopedia. How do the edits you attempted to make on UW Dawgs' user page help building it? Widr (talk) 23:24, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

At the time of my edit, the only information under the new football coach was his hire date. I included the 2019 season record, the 2020 season record, and 2020 off-season player movement. All of these are part of the team's football history. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 23:35, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That didn't answer my question. Anyway, I am off. Someone else will come along to review your request. Widr (talk) 23:45, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My edit helped the encyclopedia stay up to date regarding missing data over the last 2 seasons. It also contains relevant information about the players, introducing factual knowledge in the encyclopedia about the Rod Carey era, which gives readers insight into the current state of the program. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 00:00, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I still do not understand the reason for being banned. Please advise. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 10:21, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Acquiring Editorial Privileges[edit]

What is the process for acquiring editorial privileges again? Utilizing UTRS? It seems unlikely that requesting a review will work, but my edit was an attempt in good faith. I'm unable to reach out to the editor to apologize. @331dot JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 16:23, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to make another unblock request to attempt to convince another administrator that you will not be disruptive in the future and intend to make productive contributions- it would help to know what specific contributions you wish to make. 331dot (talk) 16:31, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would periodically like to maintain the seasonal record and team news on the Temple Football page, entail would be minor updates.

Thank you for your guidance, its greatly appreciated. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 22:38, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

After reading other admins reasoning in my previous request, I understand my edit was caught in the filter for the page since the edit did not follow guidelines. I have familiarized myself with the editing guidelines and I will conduct my edits in good faith to the encyclopedia. Like my previous attempt, my goal is to contribute periodic updates to the Temple Owls football page including seasonal records, bowl game results, or off-season issues such as the impact of COVID to the team. Thank youJohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 22:18, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

To have a chance of being unblocked, you'll need to be more open and honest. You didn't have to read our editing guidelines to know your blocked edits were inappropriate. Yamla (talk) 22:26, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: Truthfully, I created the account after reading the page and seeing it was not up-to-date. I wanted to jump right in and make those updates. Without understanding how to make edits on Wikipedia, I believe it was unpolished and likely came across as harmful to the page. Unfortunately, I cannot find the original post I made on the page to see exactly what I said, but at the time, my contribution to the encyclopedia was inserting missing information from the previous 2 seasons including seasonal record, bowl game results, team roster fluctuations and COVID impact. Again, I simply wanted to add the missing information. I did not list sources, which likely made the situation worse but it was not done maliciously. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 23:02, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: Please advice on next steps for recovering editorial privileges and what is needed from me. My goal is to contribute to the Temple Football page so that the information is current and accurate. I have been truthful in my replies and I'm at a loss. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 20:39, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So, to be absolutely clear, you thought writing "You smell like poo!" and linking to an image of feces was helpful? And writing "Yo mama smells like poo"? I see no path forward for you. --Yamla (talk) 21:41, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: That was written by User:UW Dawgs and sent to me, not the other way around! JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 21:51, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: I see what you are saying, the issue being my response message "Yo mama smells like poo". I was caught off-guard with being banned and then his initial message to me. I thought he was the one who banned me and sent me the message that I smelled like poo with the linked image. I did not engage that user, but I do apologize for my response, it was inappropriate. I will look for other ways to handle that appropriately in the future, if allowed. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 22:09, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I take back my statement. You are correct on the first part (indeed, the other user left that message and I was wrong to state you did) and on the second part, look, while it wasn't an appropriate response, it also wasn't an unreasonable response given the provocation. While I will not review any further unblock request from you, I unconditionally take back my statement that I see no path forward for you. I think there's a realistic possibility you could be a constructive contributor to Wikipedia. --Yamla (talk) 22:18, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your explanation doesn't hold water. UW Dawgs left a welcome message on your talk page and you tried to respond with vandalism. You were not blocked when you attempted to make those edits, you were blocked because of those edits. Widr (talk) 22:34, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: Hello Widr, I do not believe you have the correct order of events, nor the messages in their proper order. I first created my username. I then made the edit to the football page (not sure how we can locate this order). The only message I can see from UW Dawgs is "You smell like poo" with an image to feces, and then I sent my response to that. Again, I apologize for my inappropriate response. However, I never engaged with that user until his fecal message was sent to me and I am certain I made my edits to the Temple football page before then, not after the fact. I hope you do not take this response as argumentative, but I do dispute your order of events and interpretation of the timing of messages. Thank you for looking into the matter again. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 22:59, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: I am able to piece together most of the events. My account was created 19:36 on December 23rd 2020. I made my edit at 19:47 December 23rd on the Temple Football page. At 20:00 on December 23rd, UW Dawgs sent me the message. He then made an edit to the Temple Football page at 20:04. I did not make any edits to the page after. I cannot see the timing of my response (I think it may have been removed) to UW Dawgs on my talk page, but as Yamla stated, I did respond to that message, regrettably. I was then blocked by you on 22:31 December 23rd 2020. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 23:21, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

UW Dawgs welcomed you here, and that was their only message to you, as you can see in your talk page history. You can see your responses here. Widr (talk) 23:44, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: When I received the notification and clicked the little bell icon, the message I was sent to was this Message From UW Dawgs. This was placed at 20:00 December 23rd 2020, after my edit. Strangely, he then welcomed me at 20:09. I then responded at 22:27, which I acknowledge was in poor taste. I apologize for my response, but my edit to the article was in good faith and an attempt to enhance the encyclopedia with current information. I did not attempt to vandalize the page and my edit was made before my exchange message. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 00:09, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: Thank you for providing those links. I think I am able to piece it all together.

Scrolling through my revision history page, you can see UW Dawgs created a post at 20:00 December 23rd 2020 Revision History. Additionally, if you scroll through UW Dawgs log history, you will see that he is the one that created my user page at 20:00 23 December 2020 UW Dawgs Log. It was his message to me! I then went to edit the message at 22:27, which can be seen with the links you provided.

I apologize for my response and I will not engage like that again. But I do want to reiterate that I was not the one who initiated messaging. I made my edit to Temple Football a few hours before I responded to him and no attempts were made to the page after receiving his message.

I am hoping for another chance, please. Thank you. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 19:36, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's true that UW Dawgs created your talk page when they welcomed you. However, you obviously clicked on their user page (which is, admittedly, quite unorthodox) and mistakenly assumed it was a message they were sending to you. Do you accept that this is what happened? Widr (talk) 19:49, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: Thank you for your reply. I am admittedly confused. Why is there a message "You smell like poo?" with a link to feces? Did he send me there on purpose or did I just click around and find it? I did interpret that as a message to me.

What are the chances I clicked on the user that sent me a welcome message, who also happens to be the user that corrected my Temple Football edit, and contains that type of message on the user page? Seems so odd to me. Again thank you for your help. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 21:07, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It appears what happened is that the wiki software sent you a notification when UW Dawgs modified or reverted your edit to the article. Then you apparently clicked on the notification, got to their user page and assumed that what you saw there was a message directed at you, which of course it wasn't. This provoked you to write what was caught by edit filter, and this action resulted in you being reported to WP:AIV for attempted vandalism. Widr (talk) 22:15, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: Your description appears correct, I do believe that is what happened. I apologize for jumping to conclusions after incorrectly assuming that message was directed to me. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 05:07, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: I believed you helped me find the source of confusion. I understand what occurred and I do not envision that happening again. I apologize for my incivility and I am hoping you can reinstate my editorial privileges. Let me know what else needs to be done from my end. JohnnyDoesn'tKnow (talk) 16:08, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Since everything seems to have been resolved, I will lift your block now. Good luck. Widr (talk) 16:30, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: Thank you for your understanding and patience. It's been greatly appreciated. I'll see you around (but in a good way)!
