Chromium Good Faith edit

[edit]

Hello JohnofYod, I wanted to talk to you about the edit you made on the Chromium page. You did bring it to my attention that the article stated that chromium was the main component of stainless steel, while you changed the word "the" to "a". I can agree that stating that the previous wording implied that it is the "only" main component, which is untrue. Still, stainless steel requires that it possesses a substantial quantity of chromium if it can be called stainless steel, so saying that it is one of the main components is also untrue. Because you proposed the original edit, I wanted to bring the question to you; how would you recommend that this phrase be reworded? It is the only metal required for stainless steel, yet it isn't the only metal in stainless steel. UtopianPoyzin (talk) 02:21, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the two year delay here, if the wording is still tricky, I'd suggest maybe adding some qualifier to the original along the lines of: "together with iron and carbon, the main component of stainless steel" JohnofYod (talk) 03:16, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
