discretionary sanctions notice[edit]

This message contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding The Troubles, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

The article Flag of Northern Ireland is under a 1RR restriction. Please be aware of this when you are editing the article, as this is the only notice you may receive. Thank you. Katietalk 16:24, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of topic ban[edit]

Due to a violation of the 1RR restriction at Flag of Northern Ireland, you are topic banned from the topics of The Troubles and the Ulster Banner, broadly construed, with the usual exceptions. This restriction will expire in 90 days, on 1 August 2016. If you are unfamiliar, please review the above linked policy on topic bans for what this means, and feel free to ask me if any clarification is needed. Violations of the topic ban are likely to result in a block from editing. If you wish to appeal this decision, you may find the appeals process here. • The nut of it that you *must* avoid all article or any editing that someone might even *think* is related to The Troubles. After 90 days, this will expire, but if you violate that ban during the 90 days, then it gets ugly. I recommended this to give you three months to get up to speed. I recommend working on (obviously) articles on different topics and just learn the system a bit. This is a second chance, basically, and a show of faith that you if just learn the expectation, you will be a good contributor. The Troubles is a troubled topic area indeed, one that has seen a lot of edit warring and other problems, which is why we have to be so strict with those articles. We hope you find your way around and in 90 days, are able to edit freely anywhere without problems. Dennis Brown - 23:50, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
