Tormented Remains

Band

[edit]

(copied from User talk:DJ Clayworth)

Dear Mr. DJ Clayworth, i am hoping to write an article about my up and coming band - we are soon to beocme nationalised throughout the united kingdom - i thought it would be best to ask you whether or not i can post a factual (non advertisment) on WIKIPEDIA, as i see many other lesser known bands have done this. I would like to have confirmation that whatever effots i spew onto this article will not be deleted purly becuase the band isnt well known enough, however if you find the article to be infringing on any copyright or legal matters by all means do your duty in removing the future article - I really think having a wikipedia article will help improve our fan base and would also generate hits to the site for those who are searching my band.

Yours Sincerly

Hi Jonny. Thanks for taking the trouble to contribute to Wikipedia. We really appreciate it. If you haven't done so please have a look at Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers and some of the pages it links to.
Regarding your band, we have a set of guidelines regarding how notable a band must be before it deserves an article. It is at Wikipedia:Notability (music). To summarise your band should have done one of:
  • Has had a charted hit on any national music chart, in at least one large or medium-sized country.[1]
  • Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country,[1] reported in notable and verifiable sources.
  • Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
  • Has been featured in multiple non-trivial published works in reliable and reputable media (excludes things like school newspapers, personal blogs, etc...).
  • Has won a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno or Mercury Music Award.
  • Has won or placed in a major music competition.
  • Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that page.)
  • Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.
  • Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast on a national radio network.
If your band satisifies a few of these then you can be pretty certain that it will be allowed to stay. if it satisifies none then you can be pretty certain it will be deleted. With one of them it will probably stay. Technically it comes down to the consensus of opinion of editors, but satisfying these guidelines is usually a very good indication of whether a band can stay or not. It is worth making sure that they article notes how the guidelines are satisified - e.g. by listing albums or awards or whatever is necessary.
I hope that helps. DJ Clayworth 17:07, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
