Information icon Hello, I'm LuK3. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to St Monica's College have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. -- LuK3 (Talk) 01:21, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created St Monica's College, and I noticed that your username, "PromotionsandEvents", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. -- LuK3 (Talk) 01:22, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, PromotionsandEvents. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Beeblebrox (talk) 02:09, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 02:31, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

{ {unblock| Hello Wikipedia Editors,

Apologies for the seemingly promotional material posted. However, it was not my intent to promote the College. I was simply unware of the fact that I cannot edit my own organisation's Wikipedia page to update outdated material. I am unsure of the steps I need to take to update my organisation's Wikipedia Page. As you can tell from my edits I have only given information about the College, as well as updated achievements.

I apologies for any inconvenience caused/rules i may have broken. I would like to rectify this issue. Please help me solve this.

Thank you,

Jordan}}

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 05:53, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

Hi Wikipedia Editors,

Upon reading the terms and conditions, I wish to change my username to JordanfromSMC. Would this be an appropriate name change?

Upon further reading, I understand that you must request edits when you are wanting to edit your organisation's page. I am happy to do this with any administrator that is willing to work with me.

Regards,

Jordan

Accept reason:

Renamed and, given you seem to have a fair understanding of the requirements to not directly edit St Monica's College, unblocking. If you want to be sure of not accidentally crossing the line I (or any other admin) could block you from editing the article, if it helps. Courtesy pings to Beeblebrox & LuK3.
