Chicagoland tornado outbreak

[edit]

Hi there! Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your article 2024 Chicagoland tornado outbreak. I just wanted to leave you a few tips as you move forward writing articles:

  • Have a quick read of WP:DUPELINK and WP:OVERLINK. Essentially, terms that are fairly obvious (like storm) tend to not be linked; those that are not super closely related to the topic at hand (like linking "power lines") are often not linked either. Once you've linked a term once in the body of an article, it shouldn't be linked again (with a few exceptions, but not in the case of an article with the length that yours was). So, once you link tornado once in the body, avoid linking it again for the rest of the article. This helps with clutter on the reader's part and will avoid the problem of readers seeing so many links that they don't stand out as much.
  • You don't need to spell out numerals in the article; saying "7 (seven)" is overkill and could insult a reader who may believe that the article writer doesn't believe them to be smart enough to understand that "7" means "seven". Generally, numerals from zero to nine should be spelled out, with larger numbers written in numeral form, though there is some wiggle room each way for that. In any case, just do one or the other, not both at the same time.
  • This is way more minor, but the manual of style guidelines on time dictate that "am/pm" or "a.m./p.m." should be used instead of "AM/PM"
  • External links are generally discouraged, unless there's a good reason to have one. Don't externally link to another Wikipedia page, especially a Draft, since those are not mainspace precisely because they are not quite ready to be linked to and read by our audience.

I know this is a lot but I just want you to be aware of these points moving forward, since content-wise the Chicagoland article is excellent; the quicker these things can become instinct, the more people will begin solely focusing on your writing for its content. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help! Happy editing. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 13:29, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
