There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Requested username:

Request reason:

I was asked to create a page for a local music festival. I thought I should make the username the same as the festival's name, but clearly didn't think that through. Now that I understand Wikipedia's policies better, I'd like to try again. I'd like to have my own account, and create a page for the music festival, clearly disclosing that I am being paid for the work. Winchendonmusicfestival (talk) 17:20, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

User renamed, compensation disclosed, filter entry lost – see below. Welcome back! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:30, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed from Winchendonmusicfestival. Another admin will be along shortly to review your unblock request. To that administrator, note that this user has already disclosed their conflict of interest on their user page. --Yamla (talk) 17:27, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alexf I'm wondering what the basis of the block is- as far as I can see(and I certainly could have missed something) the only edits of this user was to declare their paid status-which is exactly what they should do. 331dot (talk) 17:38, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note that the filter log shows an attempt to edit, blocked by the filters. --Yamla (talk) 17:41, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Or... well, it did... but it's showing up blank now. This may be the result of the rename? --Yamla (talk) 17:42, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot: The username was a group or organization working on an article of the same name. The user can do paid work within the rules, starting by declaring (which they did). That does not allow them to circumvent the username rules. One individual user. A group name is not allowed. -- Alexf(talk) 19:18, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So is a username change enough here? 331dot (talk) 19:23, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I made the page for the music festival, and when I attempted to publish it, that's when the block happened. I'm guessing because it was the same subject as my username, it raised a flag. I obviously don't know what I'm doing, so sorry for taking your time. I am a musician, and could see myself wanting to edit pages relating to my field in the future. Josietoney (talk) 17:57, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • We have lost the filter log entry; this is a pretty technical, although not entirely intended, clean start. The statements above are also fine enough for now, and Alexf seems to have confirmed exactly my view above – I'll ask on his talk page before I proceed with an unblock. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:58, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @ToBeFree: As said above it was a username/filter issue. As long as the edits are not promotional, the article is sourced, and the subject is notable, basically following the Golden Rule, then it's ok. -- Alexf(talk) 10:24, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
