Vandalism by User 67.43.20.53[edit]

I know you left a message on my talk page, and as I am not sure you will view my response, I am leaving a message here. User 67.43.20.53 has been warned by another user 4 times in the past week using talk1, talk2, talk3 and talk4 and yet the user persists in posting pictures of penises, using words like "bitchass". Do I have to repeat all 4 warnings before I may list him or her a a vandal. Aren't the warnings of my fellow wikipedians sufficient? --Waterspyder 17:28, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Its better to warn them again. At times, more than one users use a computer, so the other user may heed the warning and decist. Also, for AOL accounts, one IP address is shared by multiple users, so it may be a completely different person. Oran e (t) (c) (@) 17:35, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can you do me a favor?[edit]

Hello my friend could you please block user 202.59.20.83 he/she has multiple warnings for vandalism he's been givin two today and he/she continues to vandalize various articles with absurd edits thanks KnowledgeOfSelf 00:54, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

    • On the first day of Uni, the dean addresses the students, pointing out a few rules. "The female dormitory will be out of bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to all female students. Anybody breaking this rule will be fined 20$ the first time, 60$ for the second time, the third time will cost you 180$. Are there any questions?" Can I ask for a favor[edit]

Hey Orane, I am looking to improve my user page its to congested for my liking, and I was just admiring your user page, with your graphs and how you have certian information centered and what not, and I can't think of anyone better to give me advice and helpful pointers than you. Again it's always appreciated. :-D KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 03:32, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Cleaning up the dining area means getting the fast food bags out of the back seat of your car.
  • Every commercial on TV has a website address at the bottom of the screen.

RFA for Johntex[edit]

Hello, I want to thank you for your support of my RfA. I appreciate your support all the more because I think you are such a great contributor yourself. Best, Johntex\talk 00:18, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. I'm a bit red-faced at thanking you twice. I thanked all the people who congratulated me a few days ago and then today I finally thanked all the people who voted for me. I was trying to avoid duplicates, but... Hopefuly all my edits aren't as shoddy! Anyway, I appreciate your kind words very much - If you ever see me step out of line, or if I can help with anything, please drop me a line. Johntex\talk 00:40, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry not to have replied sooner. I've gone through the article, doing some tidying & copy-editing. the main thing I found was that the article made use of album covers; as that's not really fair use of what are fair-use images, I think that they'd tell against FA status. The main omission (so far as I can see) is a section of samples; that's something the FA people are pretty hot on. I hope that my edits and suggestion have helped. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

question from a new user[edit]

I'm a relatively new user and I've come across several time where I have to add a reference to some information. I add it at the end of the sentence. However, I'm not sure where or whether it matters or not. Is it like #1 or #2?
1. Link is inside the period [1].
2. Link is outside the period. [2].
This must seem like a pretty trivial question, but it just bugs me. Appreciate any help. --Gflores 03:45, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for the response. I thought so too, but I keep on seeing the other instance all the time. example: link. Also, on this official wikipedia MoS page, it's got an example that contradicts what you said... so, I don't know. example. Odd, huh? --Gflores 20:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Céline Dion reverts[edit]

I'm curious as to why you reverted the 1 November 2005 edits by 71.113.232.121 and Demie of the Céline Dion article? As far as I can see they were legitimate--and correct--revisions. -- Heptite (talk) 20:24, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstars & fair-use[edit]

Many thanks — very kind of you.

As for the images: it's true that there's been an increase of concern lately about fair use, but it may be just that the people at FAC are less sensitive to the issue than I expected (they can be a bit unpredictable, I think, though I've not had much to do with them).

Oh, about Hollaback Girl — Winnermario replaced some of the crasser English with one of his usual conciliatory edit summaries ("Reverted a few edits: Mel Etitis, if you remove any part of someone's quote, I will file a complaint against you"). Such a sweet lad (no, I don't swallow the stuff about his being a female at university; he's a boy in his early to mid teens). I've tried to rewrite parts of the article so that they're more grammatical and more consistent, but whether good English and clarity will be allowed to stay is doubtful. They'll much prefer to reinsert such classic sentences as: "'Hollaback Girl' is a mid-tempo dance track featuring numberous brass instruments, and a drum beat of which is similar to Toni Basil's 1982 number-one single, 'Mickey'." --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:03, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dynamite[edit]

A mother and father take their young son to the circus. When the elephants appear, the son is intrigued by them. He turns to his mother and says, "mum, whats that hanging between the elephants legs?" The mother is to embarrassed, and says "Oh it's nothing son." So the son turns and asks his father the same question. The father says "Its the elephant's penis, son." So the son says, "Why did mum say it was nothing?" The father draws himself up, and proudly says, "Because I spoiled that woman son."

Hey Orane, Celestianpower has been helping me with welcome templates, and he has been a huge help, but I'm still haveing problems understanding how to make my own welcome template. Also I am ignorant on what monobook.js is and I have no idea what to do with any of this. Thanks for the help. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 22:55, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bolded #1's[edit]

Just to let you know, there's a discussion going on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Tables for charts as to whether #1's in chart tables should be bolded or not. Also, per WP:MUSIC, links to "years in music" articles shouldn't be piped (like they are here: 2005). Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 21:46, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind words, but I don't think I'm "ready" to be an admin, and I may not ever be. I don't really participate in maintenance tasks, and if I were to become an admin, I'm worried that I won't participate enough in admin-related tasks, or make a mistake when I do. Extraordinary Machine 22:23, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Just a few comments: we try to avoid fanzine words like "smash hit", "flopped", etc.; U.S. and U.K. link to redirects, and it's best to write them in full; and the current discussion and poll at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Tables for charts has so far come down pretty heavily against bolding "1" in these articles. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:08, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, by the way, I'm assuming that "Bonnie and Cylde" was a typo (not yours), and I've corrected it to "Bonnie and Clyde". That's just an informed guess, though, and if by some remote chance I'm wrong, and you know what it should be, could you correct it for me? Thanks. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:10, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think that there is (or used to be) a magazine for teenagers called Smash Hits, and that might be colouring my perception... --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:56, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
