Notes[edit]

Hi! I have a few suggestions for your draft. Some of these will be organization or formatting oriented, which I'm more than willing to help with.

  • With the filmography section, I think that it would be better to have a plain list rather than tables. Tables are fine for when there are a lot of performances to list, but for smaller groups like filmography sections it's typically better to go for a list format.
  • With the live performances, be cautious with what you add. Make sure that everything is sourced and keep in mind that the artist will have done many live performances. What is more important to list here are the most notable or major performances - in other words, the ones that have received coverage.
  • When it comes to covering her career as a performer and artist, keep in mind that a general overview is often fine. If Mastema has some very major and well covered performances, you can list them. A great example of this can be seen at Emma Sulkowicz and Marina Abramović. I'd recommend formatting the article like theirs.
  • Make sure that you avoid original research, which is research that you created on your own as opposed to summarizing source material. An example of original research that I see in the article is the section "Mastema and Performance Art". In this section you have a paragraph that is about incorporating pain into performance art. The paragraph is very general and from what I can see, it doesn't look like the source material actually discusses Mastema. As such, the section shouldn't cover the topic of pain and performance art unless there's a source that specifically covers Mastema and this aspect of performance art. Connecting the two on your own, even if the connection looks obvious, is original research.
  • Also be careful of going into too much detail about things that aren't specifically about Mastema. I'm more specifically looking at the paragraphs about the performance groups that Mastema has participated in - it's fine to give about 1-2 sentences of explanation about the groups, but they should really only cover the groups as they pertain to Mastema. It's also fine to just list the performance groups - there's no huge need to go into a lot of detail unless there's something unique about the groups.
  • With sourcing, make sure that you have a lot of independent, reliable sources about Mastema. Make sure that they go into depth - sources that only mention Mastema in passing will be seen as trivial sources and aren't really the best sources to use. Academic and scholarly sources are often the strongest. Primary sources are fine, but they should back up the claims made in the article (ie, if using a performance group website as a source, make sure that you're linking to a page that mentions that Mastema was a member). With sources like YouTube, make sure that the video was posted by the person who owns the copyright for the video (unless it's in the public domain), as otherwise this poses a copyright risk. Finally, avoid using places like IMDb as a source, where they accept user submitted data (this is why Wikipedia can't be used as a source).

While this may seem like a lot, much of this is on the cleanup and formatting end of things. You've got some great work here and I have to applaud you on your choice of artists to write about - Mastema is absolutely amazing and fascinating! The way she performs makes me uncomfortable, but that's kind of the point (or one of them) of the performance, isn't it? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:11, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
