Speedy deletion nomination of Wowd[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wowd requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Intro section[edit]

Hello.

You started an article with this:

The zeta of any number that can be expressed as 2a, here denoted as x, multiplied by another number, here denoted as y, will be equal to π to the power of x.

That neglects to tell the lay reader at the outset that mathematics is what this is about. At the very least, that much is needed. Michael Hardy (talk) 03:05, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

August 2010[edit]

Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Perfect number. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them again. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. You were copying one of the definitions given at the start of the article, but you incorrectly stated that "p is a Mersenne prime", when it is actually (2^p)-1 itself (p must be a prime number, however) Glenn L (talk) 03:13, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion declined: Sally the Sunflower[edit]

Hello Jurvetson2. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sally the Sunflower, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. You need to use one of the standard tags listed at WP:CSD - if you can't find one that fits, that probably means the article is not speediable. The criteria are deliberately tightly drawn, and anything like this, which doesn't clearly fit one of them, has to go to PROD or AfD. There is good advice for speedy taggers at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:29, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to 1724 Vladimir has been reverted, as it appears to have removed content from the page without explanation. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. A tag has been placed on This is a deleted page requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. A tag has been placed on 8589869056, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article that does not provide sufficient context to identify its subject. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hang on}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. About the creation of Perfect number articles[edit]

Hey, what is the idea behind the creation of 33550336 and 8589869056? Sure, they are perfect numbers, but is there anything else to tell about them which is not already covered in perfect number? How do you plan to expand these articles? Yoenit (talk) 21:39, 27 February 2011 (UTC) Maybe the same way 8128 was? 8128 was created just because it was perfect.[reply]

The first criteria under Integers in Wikipedia's notability standards for numbers is that an integer with its own article should have at least three unrelated mathematical properties. I don't believe 33550336 or 8589869056 meet this criteria, and so I think these articles should be deleted. I have raised this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics#Perfect number articles to determine the views of other editors. Gandalf61 (talk) 09:34, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, 33550336[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, 33550336. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Perfect Number. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Perfect Number - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Salvio Let's talk about it! 21:54, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Speedy at 33550336[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from 33550336, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 21:57, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Happy Perfect Numbers, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. The article Happy Perfect Numbers has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Happy Perfect Numbers for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Happy Perfect Numbers is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Happy Perfect Numbers until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:02, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My OR calculation shows that 9 of the 47 known perfect numbers are happy numbers, 2p−1×(2p−1) for
p = 3, 5, 7, 107, 2281, 21701, 6972593, 20996011, 42643801.
The first 8 are known to be the first even happy perfect numbers. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:41, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

None of those are perfect numbers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jurvetson2 (talkcontribs)

I wrote "2p−1×(2p−1) for p = ..." They are all perfect numbers. This is the formula for even perfect numbers. p itself is obviously not a perfect number. p has to be prime. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:54, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is the formula for MERSENNE primes, not all primes. The ONLY perfect numbers less than 10,000,000,000 are 6,28,496,8128,3355036,and one more — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jurvetson2 (talkcontribs)

2p−1×(2p−1) is a product and clearly not a formula for primes. It is Euclid's famous formula for even perfect numbers. 2p−1 is the formula for Mersenne primes. I can hardly believe I apparently have to write this out without using variables but the 9 perfect happy numbers are:
22×(23-1), 24×(25-1), 26×(27-1), 2106×(2107-1), 22280×(22281-1), 221700×(221701-1), 26972592×(26972593-1), 220996010×(220996011-1), 242643800×(242643801-1).
The decimal expansion of the first four are 28, 496, 8128, 13164036458569648337239753460458722910223472318386943117783728128. The rest have from 1373 to 25674127 digits so please don't make me post the decimal expansions. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:27, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on ClueBot, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your reasoning on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
