Help A New Guy[edit]

Alanshon,

On the Asbury Park page regarding "notable residents", I added Edna Woolman Chase, with a link to an external source that showed she was born in Asbury Park. You changed the link to a Wiki page that does not mention Asbury Park.

Why is your link preferable to mine? Just trying to learn the ropes. Thanks. --Justified Right 14:44, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The standard for adding notables to a list in an article is to link to the Wikipedia article (if it exists), then a very brief biographical capsule, followed by a source that demonstrates a connection between the individual and the article, ideally from a book, newspaper or magazine. You had provided a link to an external source, but there was already a Wikipedia article for her, so I linked to that. I had meant to look for a more reliable external source, but forgot to place your original link as a reference when I couldn't find one. I found one this morning from a newspaper and added it to the Asbury Park, New Jersey article. I hope this explains what happened and the process I usually follow in reviewing notables added to articles, which can be an example on how to do it yourself. Welcome aboard, and please let me know if I can help with anything else. Alansohn 16:09, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
