Resident expert opinion needed[edit]

As our resident expert on Nazi-applogetic sources, I was hoping to get your opinion. I am working on a British division article, and the British sources suggest there was a German on German engagement at the end of the war. I have read online that a chap by the name of Alfred Hoffmann debunked this. I wasnt able to find much of anything on him, but the publisher does appear to be that pro-SS organization. I was wondering if you could provide your take, on if this would be reliable or not (I'd rather air on the side of caution and not peddle apologetic myths ... or hunt a copy down)?

@EnigmaMcmxc: Der Freiwillige ("The volunteer") is a negationist publication glamorizing the Waffen-SS, so I would not use it. Its origins are from HIAG, the Waffen-SS lobby group.

As far as the incident goes, I vaguely recall that there may have been a situation at the very end of the war where an SS unit approached a compound housing "privileged" prisoners; the Wehrmacht troops allegedly turned the SS unit away. An author whose name I do not recall wrote a book about it where he greatly exaggerated the importance and scope of this incident. I came across the article on Wikipedia called the "Battle of..." -- mostly based on that book -- but cannot recall its name now. Hope this is a bit helpful; sorry I don't have more details. --K.e.coffman (talk) 18:00, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
