Block evasion on Iwo Jima

Hello. I noticed you accepted the edits by the IP on Iwo Jima, but the IP was block evading. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/51.7.23.40. The IPs first edit (recently, so the first edit since their IP changed) was to continue to violate WP:3RR. I cannot revert it, otherwise I will violate 3RR. Edit war happened because the IP removed a reference and refused to discuss why they removed the reference. Now they are performing block evasion, so the edits should be reverted anyway. Event coordinator granted

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have temporarily enabled the flag on your account until 2019-12-31. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! ~Swarm~ {sting} 07:12, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you very much User:Swarm, I will surely maximize it. Kaizenify (talk) 10:22, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Nigeria Contest

Can you explain the rules a little bit more to me? for example which articles are allowed? Only about Nigerian women? Or any women? Or just any article will do? Then the language rule. If I create an article, for example in Swahili, is it allowed? and how will it work I mean what score will it get? I am a new editor but I would like to participate with a couple of articles if I can. MistyGraceWhite (talk) 16:26, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you MistyGraceWhite for showing interest in the WikiGap Nigeria contest. It is open to all users from different part of the world but all articles must be about Nigerian Women and can be written in as many languages as possible including Swahili. Articles can be from any categories or thematic areas as long as it’s about Nigerian Women though some categories brings bonus score. You can check for more info here as the grading is simple in structure, based on a KISS principle system where You get points while improving articles. Pls let me know if you need any more clarification and I will be more than willing to provide that. Thanks Kaizenify (talk) 19:21, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you Versace1608 for all the work you do and also for nominating this all in a way to make this space better. But I just have this to raise even while the AFD discussion is going on; rather than nominating almost every articles around Nigerian women especially for deletion why not do more of improving to them, I think the latter is more productive. Presently we have less than 5% remarkable Nigerian women on Wikipedia hence the introduction of our Wiki4NaijaWomen project; this is primarily to bridge the gender gap that exists on Wikipedia and one of the approach we employ as advocacy is training which we did with WikiGap and social media advocacy:a part in this daily social media routine suggest the public nominating names of remarkable Nigerian women for a wiki page and such advocacy like that is where this subject above was created from as you can see here; the article is primarily written by one of our newbie within the Nigeria wiki community as created here before I then moved it into main space. Some articles might not be 100% perfect but taking steps to improve them first can always go a long way as this is one of the reasons Nigerian contents are so lacking. Note that if you are not associated with Nigeria, I wouldn’t have brought this up atall. Thanks once again for future understanding. Kaizenify (talk) 23:27, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
@Kaizenify, I’m not sure I understand to satisfaction how the wikiGap / gender bias thing works or how newbies create articles & you move them to mainspace for them but can’t you like point out to the newbies that articles they intend to make/create must at the very least satisfy WP:GNG? I’m sorry if I sound ignorant because like i said I don’t know how all that works probably, maybe you are mandated to move it to mainspace no matter the state of the article I clearly do not know. But in the case of the aforementioned article which is now at an AFD, please do tell, how are other editors supposed to improve on the article when clearly the subject isn’t notable? I did a before search & as God is my witness I found nothing concrete if you can show me any three reliable source that discuss subject of article with in-depth significant coverage I’d be more than amazed as I searched & searched but came up empty. Celestina007 (talk) 23:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you @Celestina007; ofcourse the WikiGap doesn’t allow users writing jargons all in the name of bridging the gap but you need to also understand that there are limitations especially as Nigerian contents is concerned. I am not mandated to move any article to main-space but only to make sure one bridge that gap; as regard this particular subject, it has been edited before the move and kinda suffer this fate not necessarily because the subject isn’t notable but media hasn’t do more justice to her person which I understand. As someone who has benefited from Wikimedia travel experiences with other experienced Wikimedia affiliates and facilitated partnership within the internet gender gap, i realized that the media most time in Nigeria hasn’t been fair to the works of our women and that’s one of the reasons that we organized symposium/Training’s for over 80 female journalists in March 20 where we talked about the need to focus more on the personality of a subject rather than their work and also make sure they push themselves to write about more amazing Nigerian Women out there for the media. But wouldn’t want to bore you with all these so I understand your concerns about this and hence appreciated it so well... Only advocating that you should pls try to improve more Nigerian Women articles first before deletion and also help write more about Nigerian women while also mentoring newbies. We also understand the restrictions/guidelines placed by En wiki which disqualify lot of this women and that’s basically one of the reason why we started heavy contributions on our language Wikipedia (yo,ig & ha) aswell so we can tell our stories ourselves. Thank you once again. Kaizenify (talk)
Hi Kaizenify, I appreciate the efforts you're making to close the gender gap; I applaud your for that man. Having said that, you really need to tell new editors and those who participate to make it their priority to abide by Wikipedia's notability guidelines. It wouldn't be great if they dedicate time to work on an article only for them to see it get deleted. I participated in Jamie Tubers's Afro cine project last year and noticed a few articles (created by new editors) that were not suitable for stand-alone inclusion.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:16, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
By the way, rather than have new editors create articles, some of them can focus on improving existing articles. There are numerous Nigerian-related articles currently in poor shape. I personally prefer quality over quantity. More Nigerian-related articles should be passing the WP:GA and WP:FA criteria.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:30, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Well said, thank you so much Versace1608 for re-echoing this... I love the fact that you talked about quality over quantity and for newbies to follow all laid out notability guidelines; very well said.... We will continue to advocate that; should it not be a concern also that right now we don’t have quite number of experienced Nigerian editors ready to mentor newbies and fight vandalism as before: this is due to some foundational reasons and we are working on restoring those values while following all guidelines to keep this space sane as ever. As much as I believe in quality over quantity aswell but will also plead to make the gender balance somehow as we presently have about 80% of Nigerian men on En wiki to 20% women... with initiatives like Wiki Loves Women, Wiki Women In Red, WikiGap, Wiki4NaijaWomen which are all focus to closing that gender gap, we beg on your support to contribute, review and support our remarkable women even more while ofcourse following the necessary rules.. Still as far as am concerned, you are a Nigerian *smile*.. Thanks once again, I appreciate. Kaizenify (talk)
I believe the primary way to bridge the gender gap is to actually recruit more women. How many women editors have agreed to participate in the Wiki4NaijaWomen project? I can adopt a couple of the editors you recruit and show them the ropes, and will review articles they work on in their sandbox. You should make a list of notable topics you would like new editors to work on; you can do a Google search to make the subject of each article meets WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO or WP:BASIC. Doing this will actually eliminate the chances of other experience editors nominating the article for deletion.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 14:29, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Are you familiar with the image use policy, and the manual of style? It appears that you are not. You should read them. See also WP:REVEXP. 37.152.231.22 (talk) 10:44, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes I am; you reverted an edit without an explanation in the edit summary and also using an IP which seems like a vandal. You should do better. Thanks Kaizenify (talk) 10:48, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
No, you reverted an edit without an explanation, repeatedly. If you are familiar with the image use policy and the manual of style, then why are you repeatedly editing the article in a way that violates them? Also you must be unfamiliar with the most basic aspect of Wikipedia, which is that it is an encyclopaedia that anyone can edit. You will need to familiarise yourself with WP:VAND and WP:NOTVAND as well. 37.152.231.22 (talk) 10:51, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
when you ‘’undo’’ the edit, the best you could have done is to leave an explanation... Do you have any WP:COI with the said page?? Vandal or not; you increasing edit on the page is suspicious. Kaizenify (talk) 10:57, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi

Your concerns about Misty turned out to be completely right. It was a sock. BabbaQ (talk) 18:18, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

BabbaQ, hello, like I already stated on my tp, the revert was due to my device malfunctioning. Once again apologies to you BabbaQ. @Kaizenify, good catch there! I initially thought the editor MGW, who has now been blocked for socking was a “good guy” but after I spotted that they engage in revenge !voting & AFD nominating, I became suspicious of them. Celestina007 (talk) 13:29, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
Good call Celestina007. I also felt something was off with that editor.BabbaQ (talk) 13:32, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you @BabbaQ and apologies for responding so late; was busy handling some important issues in real life. It happens that they(MSG) are suck after all, and the support of everyone including you exposed them and made this space even saner and safe. And thank you Celestina007 and sorry about the inconvenience your device malfunction might have caused, please the device shouldn’t go dead as we can’t afford not to have a resourceful editor like you here. Best regards. Kaizenify (talk) 16:07, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
