Idoonie and June Preston

[edit]

Hi @Karenthewriter: I read your comment Idoonie's page regarding updating the June Preston. I plan to help to update the article as well, if possible. I asked Idoonie/Sabrina if she has a photograph of June Preston, that would be a good way to bring focus to the article. I plan to post a message to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red to ask for help. scope_creepTalk 14:43, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep: I sent her an email, asking if she could send me info from articles or reference books, but if you want to be in charge of helping the article, you can do so. Idoonie (Sabrina) was certainly upset about the article being gutted, so it may be best if, from now on, only one person asked her for information.

I did some work on the article last night, adding the name of June's husband to the info box, and made some other small changes – and there was another editor right behind me, deleting anything I didn't already have a reference for, and doing summaries stating the person could find nothing notable about June Preston. Yikes! I did put in a referenced sentence about June getting a RKO contract right after the Anne of Green Gables film, so that's one step towards helping out.

I found lots of advertisements for June Preston Frocks, and I'll try to find a good usable reference for June Preston dolls. Perhaps I could work on getting together a merchandising section, to help show June Preston was a Big Deal as a child actress.

I own the Kindle book "Hollywood Children" by Diana Serra Cary (the former Baby Peggy) and I'll be skimming through it to see if there is anything about June Preston. Unless I get emailed information from Sabrina, or you contact me again, I'll just check out the ebook I own, and focus putting together a merchandising section, and let others work on the rest of the article. I don't want to be trying to do tasks that others will be working on, and ending up hindering, instead of helping. Karenthewriter (talk) 15:30, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Karenthewriter:, I'm not the best talking to folk who are non-technical but I will give it a go. The article doesn't need a lot of references to create a seed article, just enough to get Google graph going and that enables successful searches weren't successful before. A merchandising section would be a start, as long as its not too promotional. It will show she was famous, which will help. I will try and get the deletion stopped. It can go too far, and it become ridiculous. I hoping somebody from Wire can come in. They will locate references if there is any available. Thanks for helping. I'm glad somebody took the time to stop and have a look scope_creepTalk 16:01, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: my take on the situation is that Sabrina can't be editing her mother's article, but if she can send someone else a photo, or referenced information from published sources, then the person who receives the info can add it in. Anything she should happen to email to me, I can add to the article. If you'd prefer me to be the contact person I can do that. I just don't think we both should be getting data from the same person, and trying to add the same info.
My merchandising section won't be promotional. I've had 20 Wikipedia articles published, so I know the drill – "Just the facts, ma'am" and keep a neutral tone. I'll say that for many years there was a line of June Preston Frocks, and that she went on at least one promotion tour, appearing in stores that sold her dresses. And I'll cite about four advertisements, that anyone with a newspapers.com account can see. I haven't been able to find a good reference for the June Preston dolls (I know Pinterrest doesn't count) so I'll stick with the frocks for now.
I never heard of June Preston until reading her daughter's post yesterday, but she was in films for years, and apparently performed with the Metropolitan Opera, so she certainly qualifies for a Wikipedia article. Karenthewriter (talk) 16:42, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mee too. See what she says, if she comes back to her talk page. She might talk to you in email, easier that talking on here. In which case, ask for image, if you can. Hopefully she will forward a colour image, if one is available from that time. Either way, decent image from when Preston was in here 20's. A 2nd image can be added that shows here as a child actor, that will be show futher down the article. If she does, then upload it as fair use. I've mentioned the article to a couple of other folk and the Women in Red project. It should moving now. Deletion seemed to have stopped. scope_creepTalk 16:49, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: have you seen the "AFD?" post on the June Preston article talk page? Two editors have stated they don't believe the actress will pass a notability test. I'll try to get some more referenced info in the article when I return from work this evening. Karenthewriter (talk) 17:17, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a comment. It will keep them off for 2 or 3 weeks, but no more. Maybe even less. Hopefully somebody will come in a do a deep search. scope_creepTalk 17:50, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everyone this is Sabrina, June Preston's daughter... I just saw this, all this talk page is so confusing to me, they seem to be in all different pages and places and i dont know where to answer. So, Karenthewriter I saw your message to me in another area and responded there. I have tons of my mom's stuff. A trunk full just of my mom's film career. Publicity photos, magazines with date and page number all that stuff, newspaper ads with all her apparel, tags that use to hang off the dress as a keepsake. Opera, reviews from around the world, posters... all you need. You mentioned you would email me with a link or? where I may send you all the backup you need. I answered this back to you in another area of this talk site sorry if i'm being redundant but it's just difficult for me, there are so many people involved in this chat. I appreciate your help so much... so please email me and I can start sending you any backup you need (i can take photos and email them to you, whatever you need to validate) but i warn you have a trunks worth so it will be a lot. I hope this gets to you Karenthewriter and again thank you for helping me. Sabrina Idoonie (talk) 23:10, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Idoonie I hope that you will see this. I have been writing to you at one of the email addresses that you left on, I believe, one of the edit summaries you made on your mother's article. I haven't seen any reply from you before this. My email address is: karenthewriter@yahoo.com
To begin with, we need to get a few updates completed within a few days, so that no one starts to try and have the article deleted. More can be added later.
For now, send me articles about a few movies (other than Anne of Green Gables - that's covered) that your mother had a credited part in. I'll put them up, with references, to prove she wasn't a one-film wonder. I see advertisements for used copies of Our Gang DVDs that mention June Prescott. Can you send something proving she was in one or more Our Gang movies?
I work, and have other responsibilities, so don't send me a ton of stuff right now. Don't overwhelm me. Just a few movie articles that I can start with. I will copy this and mail it to both of your email addresses, in hopes that you will see one of my posts. Karenthewriter (talk) 23:47, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is now a good image on the Bordertown (1989 TV series) article so my image will no longer need to be available as a replacement. Karenthewriter (talk) 17:37, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
