License tagging for Image:Terrance.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Terrance.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

You're correct, it was deleted for lack of copyright information. You can select a copyright license tag from the pulldown menu on the upload screen. If you took the photograph with your own camera, you can select GFDL (self-made) or any of the dual licenses from the list depending on what you want allow people to use the image for and if you want to be attributed when it's used. - Mgm|^(talk) 18:41, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, it's generally a good idea to rename the image so it's not accidentally overwritten when someone else uploads an image by the same name. Something like Image:Karge123_Terrance.jpg is a useful filename. You don't need to sacrifice any rights. Whatever you do, you are still allowed to reproduce or sell the photograph if it's your own. A license allows other people to use it, but it doesn't affect your own rights. - Mgm|^(talk) 08:56, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
