Hi Pumeleon - thanks for your advice. Can I ask, though, why I wouldn't be able to add a page about Lorraine Langham, though? I'm not sure I understand why it would be inappropriate to add information about a person, with their permission, who is an individual with a public profile. Does it need a rewrite? If so, let me know, and I certainly shall. Thanks in advance for your help.

Regardless of actual notability, and article must state somehow that a subject is notable. Notability is usually established by a "secondary source;" which is to say, something about the subject that was written independently of the subject itself. If you can find two or more articles, books, or anything biographical on the subject in which the subject is featured, and not just mentioned in passing, then it will be considered notable. Quick talk tutorial[edit]

Thanks for coming to my page. It tells me whne I have a new message.

Anyway, a few points to remember in the future:

when asking a new question, or starting a new topic, always use the + next to "edit this page." Then, type the subject in the subject/headline box.
At the end of your posts on talk pages, always sign your name with four tildes. ~~~~ just like that. It will come up similar to the end of my post.

Username[edit]

You should change your username at Wikipedia:Changing username. Usernames that promote a company are not allowed as usernames and eventually the account will be disabled. see Inappropriate usernames.--Hu12 08:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rockpools is related to Verve Communications and the other articles (see above) created (Kaswa) under your previous name User_talk:VerveKS. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the articles created by you do not comply with the guidelines of WP:COI. Wikipedia is not a vehicle to be used for advertising or promotion. Thanks for your comments. But that doesn't mean I'm not constructively contributing to the encyclopedia - as I'm just adding information about subjects I know about using verifiable facts. How will I contribute anything if I don't already know something of the subject? Everything I wrote about is factual and is about notable organisations, and if the articles don't fit into the guidelines - you believe it to be promotion or advertising - then shouldn't you or another contributor edit the articles so that they do fit into the guidelines, rather than deleting it? --Kaswa 20:52, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is "the encyclopedia that anyone can edit", but if you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with--Hu12 21:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It might be helpful to explain that the following story appeared in the British satirical magazine Private Eye of 13 April 2007:

"WIKI WITCH

"Not content with putting her distinctive slant on local government media releases, the slippery tentacles of PR guru Lorraine Langham have now been exposed trying to manipulate Wikipedia.

"Her Verve Communications consultancy outfit which, er, masterminds publicity for Tower Hamlets council (Eyes passim), has received a slap on the wrist for trying to turn the online encyclopaedia into a corporate advertising billboard. Wikipedia administrators spotted the ruse last month when a user called “VerveKS” posted an entry for “Lorraine Langham” and linked it to Verve’s own website. Unaware of Langham’s notoriety as the handsomely paid head of “strategic communications” at Tower Hamlets, Wikipedia editors rather sweetly asked “who the heck is she?” and then read VerveKS the riot act. “Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion,” they explained. The username would have to change and “inappropriate links” to Verve’s website were banned. They also demanded proof that Langham passed the site’s “notability” test and asked for at least two “independent” articles about her. At that point VerveKS changed her username to “Kaswa” ... [Kaswa] has been “bigging up” other Verve clients on Wikipedia, including Hamish Davidson, boss of an obscure headhunting firm called Rockpools. Kaswa promised to add links to Langham’s own articles “which will hopefully highlight her notability”, So far, the material has not arrived, but if Wikipedia does relent, there’ll be no shortage of people queuing to make online edits. Such as about how she banned journalists from last year’s Tower Hamlets election count for “health and safety reasons”; how she got rid of popular town hall press officer Eileen Short (sister of MP Clare) for spending her spare time campaigning against council home sell-offs (Eye 1146); and how she managed to persuade her friends in charge of Tower Hamlets — Britain’s second most-deprived borough — to pay her company £1m of public money last year when she originally quoted £250,000 for the work (Eye 1177).
